Beispielsweise ist ein derartiges Gerät in der europäischen Patentanmeldung 0 147 285 beschrieben. Ein weiteres Gerät ist aus der deutschen Patentanmeldung DE 39 22 949 A1 bekannt. Schließlich ist eine jüngere Weiterentwicklung eines Epilationsgerätes in der deutschen Patentanmeldung DE 43 09 406 beschrieben. Die Einwirkung des Reizstromes auf die Haut führt zu einer wahrnehmbaren Schmerzschwellenerhöhung, die durch eine Freisetzung von körpereigenen, morphinähnlichen Substanzen (Endorphinen) erreicht wird. Dabei ist die Intensität des Reizstromes individuell derart einzustellen, daß der Benutzer im Bereich zwischen den Elektroden ein Auftreten von leichtem Kribbeln, Vibrieren oder dergleichen auf der Haut verspürt. Der Stimulierungsstrom ist durch den Benutzer jedenfalls so niedrig einzustellen, daß Muskelkontraktionen nicht ausgelöst werden können.
