Abstract
Description
Claims (10)
- A fairlead latch mechanism (10;80) for guiding and securing an anchor chain (C) between an offshore structure (P) and an anchor (A), the fairlead latch mechanism (10;80) comprising:a fairlead housing (12;82) arranged to be pivotally mounted to the offshore structure (P), the fairlead housing including an orientation mechanism (28,36;27) for an anchor chain (C), and characterised in further comprising:a latch housing (14) pivotally mounted (at 16) to the fairlead housing (12), the latch housing (14) extending in use toward the anchor (A);a latch mechanism mounted to the latch housing (14), the latch mechanism including a ratchet assembly (42,62,64); andan actuator (50) for operating the ratchet assembly.
- The fairlead latch mechanism of claim 1, wherein the ratchet assembly (42,62,64) includes at least two latches (42) rotatably mounted within the latch housing (14).
- The fairlead mechanism of claim 2, wherein the ratchet assembly includes an hydraulic actuator (50) for operating the latches.
- The fairlead latch mechanism of claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the orientation mechanism for the anchor chain is a fixed bending shoe (28) or a rotatable sleeve (27;84).
- The fairlead latch mechanism of claim 1, 2, 3 or 4, wherein the latch housing (14) includes a lead shoe (29) for orienting the anchor chain (C) within the latch housing (14).
- The fairlead mechanism of claim 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, wherein the latch mechanism includes an arm (126) slidably mounted within an actuator (89) and a pair of hooks (86) attached to the arm for engaging the anchor chain (C).
- The fairlead mechanism of claim 6, wherein a second actuator (154) is mounted to the arm, the second actuator including a pair of extendable pins (152) for engaging the anchor chain (C).
- The fairlead mechanism of any preceding claim, wherein the fairlead housing (82) is arranged to be detachably mounted to the offshore structure (P) by means of a pin (91) inserted into a trunnion housing (22) of the fairlead housing (82).
- The fairlead mechanism of any preceding claim, wherein the latch housing (14) includes an instrumentation system (48) for measuring tension in the anchor chain.
- The fairlead mechanism of any preceding claim, wherein the latch mechanism includes a latch position indicator sensor (52).
