Definitions
- the present invention relates to devices for controlling a motor vehicle starter.
- Devices for the electronic control of a starter are now classically known. They usually have a management unit that receives as input information on the open or closed state of the start switch - which is usually activated by an ignition key - and control the supply of the winding (s) of a contactor power which, when closed, provides power of the electric starter motor.
- This contactor of power notably includes a mobile core which, at the end stroke, closes the motor supply circuit electric starter and whose movement causes the engagement of the starter gear towards the crown of start-up.
- This management unit is also used to manage other functions, such as automatic shutdown starter or protections against overcurrents or against false operations, such as that a request to start while the engine is already in operation.
- This management unit is either integrated into the starter itself, or housed outside starter in a special box. In another variant, it can be constituted by an electronic system already existing such as the injection computer and ignition.
- Damage of frontal tooth profiles causes difficulty in penetrating the pinion during subsequent starts.
- the teeth of the pinion generally harder than those of the crown, act as a milling tool, which in short expires, deteriorates the crown and renders it useless.
- Replacing the starter or the crown generally requires removal of the engine and is therefore a very expensive operation.
- the noise emitted by the engine running warns the driver of his operating condition; this is why the risk of false maneuver consisting in operating the starter when the engine is running is enough low.
- a device of this type is for example described in US 4,415,812.
- Comparisons to voltage thresholds can be frequently faulted by the variety of situations encountered on a vehicle and the multiplicity parameters that can modify the voltages on which comparisons are implemented (state of battery charge, current consumption, temperature room, ...)
- the invention in turn provides a device for the control of a motor vehicle starter comprising electronic means which manage the starter supply depending in particular on the closed or open state of the start switch, characterized in that said electronic means include means for detecting on a voltage issued vehicle line voltage ripples residuals corresponding to the undulations present on the voltage at the output of the alternator rectifier bridge when the vehicle's engine is running, as well as means to block the control of starter power when these ripples residuals are detected.
- Residual ripples present on the voltage at the output of the alternator rectifier bridge are very weak, but have the advantage of being present everywhere on the vehicle's electrical network, and in particular input of electronic starter control cards.
- the invention also relates to a starter for motor vehicle, characterized in that it comprises a device of the aforementioned type.
- a motor is shown electric motor starter M as well that the power contactor 1 which controls the power supply of this motor M.
- This electric motor M is mounted between earth and a + BAT terminal at voltage power supply.
- the power contactor 1 is constituted by a relay which includes a contact 1a, which is interposed between the supply terminal + BAT and the motor M, as well than a winding B with one or more windings.
- This coil B is mounted in series with a T1 controlled switch between earth and a "u" terminal which is itself connected to the + Bat terminal by via the start switch 3 of the vehicle (which is usually operated by a key of contact).
- the switch T1 is for example a transistor of MOSFET type, the grid of which is voltage-controlled by a management unit 2.
- the voltage sent to the analog input “e 0 " is also injected at the input of a circuit 4 allowing the detection on the supply voltage received by the terminal "u", of residual ripples corresponding to the ripples at the output of the alternator rectifier bridge.
- This circuit 4 includes in series a module F of filtering, an amplification module A and a module I of value extraction. Its output is connected to a second analog input "e1" of microprocessor 3, which depending on the voltage level on said command input or not blocking of transistor T1.
- the filter module F is a bandpass filter intended to eliminate on the voltage received on the one hand the DC component of this voltage and secondly the high frequency noise that this voltage can present.
- the lower limit of the filter made by this module F is less than the frequency of the rotating alternator in slow motion.
- the upper limit is higher than the frequency of the alternator running at its maximum speed.
- the signal at the output of this module F contains essentially the residual ripple of the alternator.
- This signal is amplified in module A to be easily exploitable.
- Module I processes the amplified signal to extract a value which is then injected on the input "e1" of the microprocessor, where it is converted numerically. For example, module I extracts the value mean, or the effective value or the value of peak of the amplified residual signal.
- one of the first operations of microprocessor 2 is to read the value of the voltage present on ⁇ e1 ⁇ and at the compare to a predetermined threshold.
- the threshold value is chosen to be higher that residual parasites having an origin other than the alternator, such as switching noises electric motors operating during start-up (pump fuel, motor fans, ). The existence of this threshold avoids confusion of extraneous noise with the signal generated by the alternator.
- the threshold is chosen lower than the minimum residual ripple level of the alternator.
- the microprocessor then blocks the transistor T1 which controls contactor 1 and thus prevents all starter operation.
- circuit 4 A possible embodiment for circuit 4 is illustrated in figure 2.
- the filtering module F is a passive band pass filter made by two RC circuits.
- the terminal "u" is connected to a first capacitor C1 there, whose end opposite to said terminal is connected to the ground via a first resistance R1.
- the capacitor C1 and the resistance R1 are connected to a second resistance R2 which is connected at its other end to a second capacitor C2 mounted between said resistor R2 and the mass.
- Module A consists of an amplifier with fixed gain. It includes an operational amplifier A1 mounted in non-inverting voltage reaction (input inverters connected to the amplifier output operational A1 by resistance R3 and to ground by resistance R4.
- Module I illustrated in Figure 2 allows you to collect the peak voltage of the amplified signal. It is consisting of a diode D1 mounted between the output of the amplifier module A and the input "e1", being passing from said exit to said entry, as well as by a capacitor C3 mounted between the cathode of said diode D1 and ground.
- microprocessor 2 can be replaced by analog circuits.
- electronic means can be placed outside the starter.

Abstract
