Description

The invention relates to a connector according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such a connector is, for example, from EP 0 251 755 A2 known. In addition to the two connector parts this known connector still an intermediate part, which for Fixing the conductor end sections in the first connector part is used.

The provided in the first connector part, in rows a ... d against each other Staggered recesses are for receiving the cutting edges Insulation displacement connectors of the second connector part provided in the sense that they create the necessary receiving space in which the insulation displacement clamps can dip if they function, stripping their assigned conductor end section, when joining the Meet connector parts. A further function assignment for these recesses cannot be found in the cited document.

Other generic connectors also have arm-like Insulation displacement clamps, with the function of the walls of the recesses for guidance (US 4,701,139) or support (DE-23 55 774 C2) of the insulation displacement terminals.

Disadvantages of this and the multitude of others are known solutions for the construction of connectors of the named Kind is that the insulation displacement clamps due to the relative miniaturized version in some cases in its clamping force can decrease, especially if due to temperature changes, mechanical stress such as Vibrations the minor Material cross sections in the area of the two forks of the insulation displacement clamps be used for longer periods, such as at the use of such connectors in the automotive sector is the case. Such signs of fatigue, especially in areas more severe Temperature fluctuations and mechanical stresses can then in the worst case lead to the contact itself deteriorated, with the result of a reduction in the contact cross-sections with the resulting problems or even with the Follow the complete interruption of contact, for example what in the automotive sector to significant disruption of the function of the lead electrical or electronic components of the motor vehicle can.

It is therefore an object of the invention, the generic connector to improve so that such changes in contact behavior of the insulation displacement terminals and the associated deterioration in function or functional failures reliably be prevented.

According to the invention, this object is according to the characterizing part of claim 1 solved.

The basic idea of the invention is therefore the recesses within the usually made of plastic To further develop the connector part so that a metal housing as an insert is used with sufficient hardness that prevents the two legs of the fork-like insulation displacement clamps through the open the thermal or mechanical loads mentioned can, a measure that is easy to implement constructively and the scope of such generic connectors also in working environments subject to high thermal and mechanical loads.

A first advantageous embodiment of this solution principle sees before that the metal housing closed in a ring or pot-shaped is trained, which ensures the required stability, on the other hand, it still allows the metal housing, that surrounds each recess and thus every single insulation displacement contact is assigned, for example in the manner of a connecting lug led out in sections on the outside of the first connector part is, which creates additional contacting and switching options result in a simple way.

Corresponding to the extension of the metal housing to the outside of the first connector part is also a corresponding example nose-like extension of the insert downwards, i.e. to the introduced Ladders possible where these continuations then serve as strain relief serve and the reliability and service life of such Connector further improved.

Wie üblich besteht ein derartiger Steckverbinder (Figur 1) aus einem ersten Steckerteil 10, auf dem das Ende eines Flachbandkabels F eingelegt ist, mit insgesamt N-Leitern 30.Figures 1 to 6 and Figure 10 are illustrations of a first Embodiment of the connector according to the invention. How Such a connector (Figure 1) usually consists of a first connector part 10, on which the end of a ribbon cable F is inserted, with a total of N conductors 30.

The counterpart forms a second connector part 20, which is shown in the Position via suitable detents, lugs or the like Form-locking elements with the first plug part 10 is locked, so that the two connector parts 10 and 20 secure the ribbon cable F. enclose between themselves.

Recesses 11 are made in the first plug part 10, into which one insulation displacement terminal 40 (FIG. 4) of the second plug part 20 dips in a manner known per se at its cutting end is fork-shaped, cuts through the insulating jacket of the conductor 30 and thus the contact with their assigned conductor manufactures. These insulation displacement terminals 40 and their associated recesses 11 are staggered in two rows. The back The end of the insulation displacement clamps is (not shown) Plug pins or sockets connected in the second connector part 20, the then with a complementary fitting component (Socket or pin) is connectable. The two connector parts 10 and 20 consist of plastic in a manner known per se and need in their detailed structure will not be explained in more detail.

According to the invention, it is now provided that in the recesses 11 sleeve or pot-like metal housing 50 are used, the Inner contour is dimensioned so that the two legs 41, 42 each Insulation clamp 40 guided laterally and secured against spreading are. A preferred embodiment of such a metal housing 50 is the various views and sections of FIG. 10 removed:

It is a pot-shaped housing with side walls and a floor, the inner cross section of which has a maximum clear width L and has a maximum clear width B with the inside showing four corner areas 52 are tapered so that the shown cross-like inner cross section results.

The maximum clear width L corresponds essentially to that External dimension of the two legs 41 and 42, so that by the rigid Structure of the metal housing 50 spreading the legs apart 41,42 also under the mechanical or thermal mentioned Charges is excluded. The (here from three veins existing) conductor 30 with their insulating jacket 31 therefore remain under these circumstances safely from the insulation piercing clamps 40 in their Position held and contacting is ensured.

The concept according to the invention can advantageously be expanded, such as for example using the one shown in FIGS. 7 to 9 second embodiment of the connector is shown:

The connector shown in Figure 7 differs from the connector shown in Figure 1 only in that two rows of terminal lugs 51, corresponding to the total number N of Project conductors 30 from the first connector part (in the shown Exemplary embodiment in total 12 + 13 = 25 connecting lugs 51 corresponding to 25 Lines 30).

These terminal lugs 51 are part of a modified metal housing 50 ', as shown in particular in FIG. 9. It deals is a ring-shaped closed metal housing with a Internal cross section, for example, in that shown in Figure 10 Shape, but without a bottom section. Instead, part of it Side wall through the plastic material of the first connector part 10 passed through and forms in its outward-facing part the N terminal lugs 51, which are therefore at the same potential like their assigned conductor 30. These connecting lugs can thus for example for testing or control purposes, for example by connection with corresponding single contact plugs on individually selected conductors 30.

In the further variant shown in FIG. 4, that on the underside of the metal housing 50 facing the conductors a projection or formation 55 is provided, which in the Cuts the insulating jacket of the assigned conductor.

For strain relief, this shape can be designed in particular as a nose against the tensile stress on the ladder (30) is angled.
