Abstract

The invention relates to a motion detector for the motion and direction selective detection of moving objects emitting heat radiation, in particular people. The motion detector contains a first, fixed and permanently active detection system (1), which is composed of several detection modules (2), each module (2) being available as a partial area of an overall monitoring area for monitoring an angular area (11). In addition, a second, movable and temporarily activable detection system (6), which can be rotated at least about a vertical axis (A) by means of an electric drive (15), as well as a control device (8), which is based on alarm signals of at least one of the two detection systems (1 , 6) forms control signals for the drive (15). According to a preferred embodiment, a headlight (5) is mechanically coupled to the drive (15), which emits a light cone (18) in a direction determined by the motion detector for a period controlled by the control device (8) and which at the same time communicates with the second detection system ( 6) is rotatable at least about the vertical axis (A).
