    Claims (9)

    1. A ventilated filter cigarette (10, 20), comprising:
      a) a tobacco rod (11, 21);
      b) a wrapping for said tobacco rod (11, 21);
      c) a filter (12, 22) ventilated via ventilation openings (15, 25) and having a co-axial filter element (13, 14; 23, 24) comprising a filter core (14), a wrapping for the filter core (14), a filter jacket (13, 23) and a wrapping for the filter jacket (13, 23);
      wherein the smoke flows substantially through the filter core when the ventilation zone is open,
      characterised in that:
      d) the ratio of the resistance to draw of the filter jacket (13, 23) to the filter core (14, 24) is greater than 0.5, preferably 0.8 to 1.5;
      e) the specific resistance to draw of the filter core (14, 24) is 0.3 to 0.75, preferably 0.5 mmWS (water column) × cm;
      f) the ratio of the distance between the ventilation zone (15, 25) and the end of the co-axial filter element on the mouth side to the length of the co-axial filter element is greater than 0.8, preferably 0.87 to 0.93; and in that:
      g) the ventilation zone lies on the co-axial filter element,
      wherein a substantial proportion of the cigarette smoke flows through the filter jacket (13, 23) of the co-axial filter element (13, 14; 23, 24) when the ventilation openings (15, 25) are covered.
    2. The ventilated filter cigarette (20) as set forth in claim 1, characterised in that the filter (22) comprises two longitudinal segments, wherein the filter segment (26) on the rod side is a conventional standard filter segment, and the segment connected to it, on the mouth side, is a co-axial filter segment (23, 24).
    3. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in claim 1, characterised in that the filter comprises three longitudinal segments, wherein the filter element on the rod side is a conventional standard filter segment, the middle filter segment connected to it is a chamber with a selectively filtering material and the filter segment connected in turn to this is a co-axial filter element.
    4. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in claim 1, characterised in that the filter comprises three longitudinal segments, wherein the filter element on the rod side is a first conventional standard filter segment, the middle filter segment connected to it is a co-axial filter element and the filter segment connected in turn to this is a second conventional standard filter segment.
    5. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that, in the co-axial filter element (13, 14; 23, 24):
      the diameter of the filter core (14, 24) is dimensioned such that the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the core to the cross-sectional area of the jacket (13, 23) is distinctly smaller than 1;
      the wrapping of the filter core (14, 24) is substantially air permeable, and preferably consists of cellulose acetate or paper;
      wherein in the tobacco rod (11, 21):
      the condensate yield is less than 25 mg, preferably less than 20 mg; and
      the resistance to draw is less than 60 mmWS (water column), preferably less than 50 mmWS (water column).
    6. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in claim 5, characterised in that the diameter of the filter (12, 22) is between 7.7 and 8.0 mm.
    7. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in any one of claims 2 to 6, characterised in that the filter segment on the rod side consists of cellulose acetate, and exhibits a low individual titre, preferably 2.1 dpf and lower, and a resistance to draw which is lower than 60 mmWS (water column), preferably 35 to 50 mmWS (water column).
    8. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in any one of claims 4 to 6, characterised in that the filter segment on the mouth side consists of cellulose acetate, and exhibits a high individual titre, preferably 8 dpf, and a resistance to draw which is lower than 20 mmWS (water column), preferably 10 mmWS (water column).
    9. The ventilated filter cigarette as set forth in any one of claims 4 to 6, characterised in that the filter segment on the mouth side is a hollow mouth piece.
