Description

The present invention relates to a socket, by way of example not limiting for telephone or computer use, this socket being connected integrated and rear connection by insulation displacement contacts.

The document EP-A-0.585.179 describes a female socket of the type “Modular jack” and with integrated connectors whose constitution is recalled on the Figure 1 attached. The modular jack 9A contacts of the front mouth A3 of this socket A1 are taken up at the rear on two series 10A, 10B of insulation displacement contacts. The connection of the sheathed telephone wires 13 to the rear of the socket is then carried out, without special tool, by closing two respective covers or rotating caps 14A, 14B whose axes of rotation 15A, 15B are perpendicular to the Y axis of the taken and which serve, by chasing these wires in their insulation-displacement slots respective receivers, rotary connection pushers.

According to this embodiment, the metal slotted contacts insulation displacement (s) are arranged in two rows 10A, 10B of contacts, these two rows being placed one under the other in the same vertical plane and the contacts of a row being oriented, vertically, opposite to that of contacts in the other row. The pivot lines 15A, 15B of the two pushers connection rotarys 14A, 14B are placed outside the rear space which contains these two rows, on either side of this space.

Once closed, these two covers or rotary pushers leave between them sufficient space so that one can pass the finger in order to open one either of these rotary pushers, making them switch, as the case may be, either up or down.

The need to have a space to be able to open again these two tilting covers or caps penalize the dimensions the rear of this type of telephone jack.

The invention aims to remedy this drawback. To this end, it relates to a socket with integrated connectors, for which the pins of the socket are taken, at the rear of the latter, on two parallel rows of insulation displacement contacts, the connection of the wires to the rear of the taken then by closing two respective tilting covers, one per row, which have their pivot lines parallel to each other and which serve, by driving these wires into their respective receiving insulation displacement slots, of rotary pushers of connection,
and this plug being characterized:
  • in that the pivot lines of the two tilting covers are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the socket,
  • and in that the pivot lines of these two tilting covers are placed, parallel to the two rows of insulation displacement contacts, in the space which separates these two rows, so that these two covers are closed by tilting in opposite directions and are maneuver, for their reopening, from the space outside these two rows.

Preferably, these two tilting covers have a single line pivot, the two aforementioned pivot lines then being merged into only one, which allows an optimum space saving.

The invention will be clearly understood, and its advantages and other characteristics will emerge more clearly from the following description of a nonlimiting exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended schematic drawing in which
  • Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the rear part of this telephone or computer socket.
  • Figures 3 and 4 are respectively an end view, according to F of Figure 4, and a top view of the same rear part of the socket.
  • Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 3 but showing an alternative embodiment.

Referring to all of Figures 2 to 4, this is the part rear, comprising metal contacts 1 with insulation displacement slot, of a socket telephone, which differs from the rear part of the socket according to the document EP-A-0.585.179 cited above mainly by the fact that these insulation displacement contacts 1 are arranged in two rows 2, 3 which are located in two parallel planes vertical and longitudinal with respect to the Y axis of the socket.

As for the socket according to this document EP-A-0.585.179, the pins of the “modular jack” type front mouth (not shown) are repeated, the rear of the socket, and via electrical connections not shown, on these two parallel rows 2, 3 of insulation displacement contacts 1.

The telephone wires are connected to the rear of this socket by closing two respective tilting covers 4, 5, one for each row 2, 3, which serve, by driving these wires into their receiving insulation displacement slots respective, rotary connection pushers.

The two rows 2 and 3 being parallel, this is normally the case with even for the axes of rotation, or more generally the lines of pivoting, two rotary pushers 4 and 5, these pivot lines being parallel to the axis longitudinal Y of the socket.

According to the invention, these two tilting covers, or rotary connection buttons, 4 and 5 are designed to turn, closing in opposite directions of rotation, around a single pivot line 6 which is placed, parallel to the two rows 2, 3 of insulation displacement contacts 1, in the middle of the space that separates these two rows.

In this way, these covers 4, 5 close by tilting in directions opposite around this common pivot line 6 and they are maneuvered, for their reopening, from the outside space in the two rows 2 and 3. This reopening is carried out (figure 2) by lifting one or the other of the two pawls of closing and locking 7, 8 which equip these two covers 4, 5.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the example of embodiment which has just been described and, in this connection, FIG. 5 illustrates a variant of embodiment for which the two rotary connection pushers 4, 5 each have a separate pivot line 9, 10, these two lines being parallel to each other and in rows 2, 3 and being located in the space between these two rows of insulation displacement contacts. Although the rotary pushers 4, 5 rotate here around of a material axis which corresponds to their effective line of pivoting, it goes without saying that the term "pivot line" should be understood broadly: this is how that the pushers 4, 5 could each be connected to the socket by or at least one flexible plastic tongue serving as a hinge.
