Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for connection by insulation displacement contacts.

Fast connections with insulation displacement slot contacts are now widely used in the industry, particularly in the telephone and computer connection industry.

The document EP-A-0.585.179 describes a socket type "modular jack" and integrated connectivity. The modular jack contacts of the front mouth of this jack are taken back on two sets of insulation displacement contacts. The connection of a sheathed telephone wire to the rear of the socket then takes place, without special tools, by closing two respective rotary covers which serve, by driving the wires in their respective passive insulation displacement slots, rotary connection pushers. .

This kind of rotary pusher is very practical, but in fact it does not guarantee a total security of operation because the installer never has the absolute certainty of having made his connection. On a very large number of connections that it must make each day, it is quite possible that for some of them, the rotary pusher has actually not undergone a sufficient rotation and that consequently the wires correspondents are not correctly connected.

The invention aims to remedy this drawback. It relates for this purpose to a method of connection by driving wires in insulation displacement slots, characterized in that it consists in chasing these wires in these receiving slots by means of a connection pusher which cooperates with an elastic element that it tends during the actuation of the pusher and suddenly released at the end of the stroke of this pusher, so as to then cause the brutal shock of two hard bodies, this brutal shock emitting a clearly audible slam and then signaling the installer that the insulation displacement connection is positively performed.

Advantageously, this brutal shock is created by the closing of a locking pawl of this pusher at the end of stroke, this pawl being stretched in the open position before release and locking at the moment of its brutal end-of-stroke shock.

Typiquement, le son audible ainsi produit est d'intensité au moins égale à 45 Décibels A.Typically, the audible sound thus produced is of intensity at least equal to 45 decibels A.

The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this method, this device being characterized in that said connection pusher is a rotary pusher of the swinging cap type, which comprises an elastic locking pawl at the end of the stroke, this pawl cooperating with a fixed locking stop snap at the end of travel and this snap stop cooperating with this pawl to create a hard point of passage corresponding to a maximum tension of said pawl and to release suddenly this pawl in locking position against the snap stop immediately after the passage of this hard point, the sudden impact of the pawl against its receiving part then producing said audible snap.

In any case, the invention will be better understood and its advantages and other characteristics will become more apparent, in the following description of a nonlimiting exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of the rear part of a phone jack or computer, this rear part forming connection device, insulation displacement contacts, telephone or computer lines, with a wire ready to be connected and the connection push in open position.
  • Figures 2 to 4 show, in partial and longitudinal section along II-II of Figure 5, the successive phases of connection of this wire.
  • Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view along VV of Figure 4.

Figure 1 shows the rear part of a monopile modular jack. This socket comprises two insulation displacement metal contacts 1, 2 which, in this embodiment, each comprise two insulation displacement slots, as is the case for those described in EP-A-0.585.179 supra.

As best seen in Figure 2, these two insulation displacement metal contacts 1, 2 are each made of two metal thicknesses and are held in the rear plastic body 3 of the socket. Of course, these insulation displacement contacts could each consist of a single metal thickness.

This plug has, like that according to EP-A-0585179, a rotary connection push-button 4 made of plastic material which is designed as a lid or tilting cap, the rotation of this pusher 4 performed around an axis 5 which is parallel to the row of insulation displacement contacts 1, 2.

Sur la figure 1, on distingue nettement les deux couples de lames-poussoir 61, 62, et 63, 64 qui vont venir chasser, lorsque l'on va refermer le chapeau basculant, les fils à connecter dans leurs fentes autodénudantes réceptrices, respectivement du contact métallique 1 et du contact métallique 2.FIG. 1 clearly distinguishes the two pairs of push blades 61, 62, and 63, 64 which will come to drive, when the tilting bonnet is closed, the wires to be connected in their self-bending slots, respectively metal contact 1 and metal contact 2.

By way of illustration, FIG. 1 shows a sheathed telephone wire 6 which is put in place in the contact 1, at the inlet of its second insulation displacement slot, and which is therefore ready to be connected by closing the rotary connection pusher 4.

According to the invention, the tilting cap, or rotary pusher, 4 comprises a resilient latch 7 locking end of stroke, this pawl 7 cooperating with a fixed stop 8 snap locking end of stroke. This abutment 8 is formed by a protruding beak of plastic, which is part of the body 3 and is obtained by molding therewith.

As will be shown now, with reference to FIGS. 2 to 5, which detail their operation, the snap-on abutment 8 cooperates, when the tilting cap 4 is closed, with the elastic pawl 7 to create a corresponding hard point of passage. at a maximum tension of this pawl and, immediately after the passage of this hard point, to suddenly release this pawl 7 against the nose of the abutment 8 while producing a click, or "click", clearly audible which then signals to the editor that the insulation displacement connection of the wire 6 is effectively and positively performed with absolute certainty.

At this stage, the elastic pawl 7 just rests, without tension, on the base of the convex ramp 81 which is formed in front of the abutment 8 to receive and gradually push back the elastic ratchet 7. The elasticity of the latter is due to the fact that it is carried by the free end of a tongue 71 of plastic material whose other end is secured to the tilting cap 4. At this stage, the push blade 62 (Figure 1 ) has not yet begun its action of driving the wire 6 in its insulation displacement slot receiving the metal contact 1.

A ce stade, la lame-poussoir 62 commence à chasser le fil 6 dans sa fente autodénudante réceptrice du contact 1 et donc à dénuder et connecter le fil 6.Continuing, according to Figure 3, the manual action of closing the tilting cap 4, the pawl 7 is pushed back by the stop 8, along the convex ramp 81 of the latter. The elastic tongue 71 then curves as shown and is therefore subjected to a high elastic return tension. At this stage, the pusher blade 62 begins to drive the wire 6 into its insulation displacement slot receiving the contact 1 and thus to strip and connect the wire 6.

En fin de rampe 81, il y a alors passage d'un point dur 82, puis, selon Figure 4, relâchement très brutal de la languette élastique 71 et verrouillage, par encliquetage 7-8 du chapeau basculant 4.At the end of ramp 81, there is then passage of a hard point 82, then, according to Figure 4, very brutal release of the resilient tongue 71 and locking, snap 7-8 of the tilting cap 4.

During this last phase, the pusher blade 62 completely and positively drives the insulation displacement connection of this wire.

The abrupt release of the tongue 71 after the passage of the hard point 82-7 causes the very brutal impact of this tongue against the front face, that is to say against the nose, the stop 8. The brutal shock of these two hard bodies then causes a click, or "click", clearly audible which, in accordance with the result expected by the present invention, signals to the assembler that the insulation displacement connection of the wire 6 is positively, and therefore with full certainty, performed.

A noter, comme on le voit nettement sur la figure 5, que le verrouillage positif du chapeau 4 permet de bien maintenir le fil 6 dans sa position de connexion, grâce en particulier à une courte rainure verticale 9 de réception et de maintien du fil 6 qui est prévue, face à chaque fente autodénudante, dans le corps 3, ainsi qu'à une courte nervure conjuguée 10 qui est prévue, sur la face interne du chapeau basculant 4, pour venir alors fermer cette rainure 9 en jouant le rôle d'un couvercle pour cette dernière..Note, as can be seen clearly in FIG. 5, that the positive locking of the cap 4 makes it possible to keep the wire 6 firmly in its connection position, thanks in particular to a short vertical groove 9 for receiving and maintaining the wire 6 which is provided, facing each insulation displacement slot, in the body 3, and a short conjugate rib 10 which is provided on the inner face of the tilting cap 4, to then come close this groove 9 while playing the role of a cover for the latter ..

Typiquement, le claquement ainsi produit à la fermeture du chapeau 4 est d'intensité au moins égale à 45 Décibels A.Typically, the slam thus produced when the cap 4 is closed is of intensity at least equal to 45 decibels A.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described. Thus, for example, it applies equally well to sockets which, like the one according to the document EP-A-0.585.179 mentioned above, have several closure pushers instead of just one. It also applies to devices that would be provided with a non-tilting connection pusher and closing for example by translation and not by rotation. It applies generally to the industry of connectivity, and therefore not only to the field of telephone or computer connection, which is cited here as a preferred but non-limiting example.
