The spring tongues (9) at the front end of the pin contact are formed by providing a bore in the end face of the solid pin contact and forming axial slits in the wall of the bore, the tongues (18) at the front end of the sleeve contact similarly formed by axial slits and bent inwards at their free ends for retention of the inserted pin contact.

Description

The invention relates to a connector for high currents, consisting of a pin-shaped contact pin and a sleeve-shaped, provided with spring tongues contact socket.
With such plug connections, it is necessary that the volume resistance between the contact pin and the contact socket is as low as possible in order to keep the heating of the contact point as small as possible when the current flows.

It is generally known to design the contact pin of such a plug connection as a solid pin and to provide the contact socket with slots to form spring tongues in order to achieve a large number of contact points and thereby to keep the volume resistance low.

The invention has for its object to design a plug connection of the type mentioned in such a way that the lowest possible volume resistance is achieved when the plug connection is joined.

This object is achieved in that the substantially massive plug end of the contact pin has a bore at the front end, and that slots are provided in the region of the bore for the formation of spring tongues, and in that the sleeve-shaped contact socket has slots for the formation of spring tongues only at the front end , and that the rear area of the contact socket has an unslotted constriction.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention are specified in claims 2 and 3.

The advantages achieved by the invention are, in particular, that the volume resistance is reduced by increasing the number of contact points when the plug connection is assembled, and the heating of the plug connection that may occur nevertheless can be dissipated well by the semi-open construction (slots).

The contact pin 1 shown in FIG. 1 is preferably made as a turned part from solid material and has a conductor connection end 2 and a plug end 3.
Between these two outer ends, the contact pin is provided with gradations 4 for holding in a carrier body or housing, not shown here. From the front, a central bore 5 is formed in the plug end 3, which extends approximately to the middle of the plug end, so that the plug end has a solid section 6 and sleeve-shaped section 7. The sleeve-shaped section is provided with slots 8 through which spring tongues 9 are formed. A conical insertion bevel 10 is provided at the front end to facilitate insertion of the contact pin into a contact socket.

The contact socket 11 shown in FIG. 2 is also preferably made as a turned part made of solid material and has a conductor connection end 12 and a sleeve-shaped plug end 13. Between the two outer ends, the contact socket is provided with steps 14 for holding in a carrier body or housing, not shown here. The sleeve-shaped plug end is made through a central bore 15. This bore has a smaller diameter in its end region on than at the beginning, so that the rear region of the plug end shows a constriction 16. The transition between the front and rear areas is provided with a conical bevel 17. To form resilient contact tongues 18, the outer sleeve of the plug end is provided with slots 19 which extend into the region of the bevel 17. As a result, the sleeve-shaped plug end 13 of the contact socket has a front elastic region with spring tongues and a rear, inherently rigid, inelastic region.

The interaction of the different areas of the contact pin 1 and the contact socket 11 is shown in FIG. 3, in which an assembled plug connection is shown.
Here, the front end, provided with spring tongues 9, of the contact pin 1, that is to say its sleeve-shaped section 7, is inserted into the constriction 16 of the contact socket 11. Appropriate dimensions of the diameter of the front end of the contact pin and the constriction ensure that the spring tongues 9 press resiliently against the wall of the constriction, with a corresponding number of contact points being formed in accordance with the number of spring tongues.
When the plug connection is joined, the front ends of the contact tongues 18 of the contact socket are located in the area of the solid section 6 of the contact pin and act resiliently on them, with a corresponding number of contact points being formed in accordance with the number of contact tongues 18. To increase the spring force, it can be provided that the contact tongues 18 are slightly bent inwards (inserted) before the insertion of a contact pin and that an insertion bevel 20 is provided for better insertion of a contact pin.
