Durch die Abspeicherung der Ist-Leistungsdaten dann, wenn diese von den Soll-Leistungsdaten abweichen, wird der Nachweis einer Änderung der Soll-Leistungsdaten ohne weiteres möglich. Der Fahrzeugbenutzer erhält andererseits damit auch die Möglichkeit, den Nachweis zu führen, daß beispielsweise seine Soll-Leistungsdaten nicht verändert sind und kann dann gegenüber dem Fahrzeughersteller bzw. der Versicherung seine berechtigten Ansprüche belegen. Auch die nicht völlig auszuschließende Möglichkeit einer Veränderung der Leistungsdaten ohne Einfluß und Zutun des Fahrzeugbenutzers, beispielsweise beim Austausch der Steuereinrichtung und einem Werkstattfehler läßt sich für den Fahrzeugbenutzer ebenfalls ohne weiteres führen. Bei einem Besitzerwechsel wird es dem nachfolgenden Besitzer möglich, eine mögliche übermäßige Beanspruchung der Brennkraftmaschine anhand der abgespeicherten Ist-Leistungsdaten zu erkennen. Er kann dann beispielsweise von einem Kauf des Fahrzeugs Abstand nehmen. Andererseits kann der Vorbenutzer anhand von nicht abgespeicherten Ist-Leistungsdaten den Nachweis des ordnungsgemäßen Betriebs der Brennkraftmaschine führen.
