Definitions
- the present invention relates to a fire detector with a sensor for monitoring fire parameters, with a microprocessor and with an adjustable voltage regulator.
- the invention is intended to provide a voltage regulator whose current requirement and price are significantly lower than previously, in which no expensive capacitors are required, which is as insensitive as possible to external influences, and which can be obtained from several manufacturers.
- the solution to this problem according to the invention is characterized in that the voltage regulator is designed in such a way that its output voltage can be adjusted by means of an adjustment value determined on the basis of a measurement and stored in a register.
- the output voltage of the voltage regulator is therefore compared with a comparison value stored in a register, as a result of which the demands on the controller itself are considerably reduced.
- ASIC customer-specific circuit
- an actuator which is external to the ASIC is provided in accordance with a second preferred embodiment.
- this external actuator is formed by a J-FET that can be controlled directly by the ASIC.
- the concept according to the invention is particularly advantageous when the microprocessor has an EEPROM memory and bidirectional communication with the ASIC. Because then the resources can be used optimally: The voltage regulator is adjusted during the production of the fire detector and the corresponding bit pattern is written into the EEPROM of the microprocessor. When the fire detector is switched on, this bit pattern is then written into the register of the ASIC provided for the adjustment of the voltage regulator.
- the block diagram shown shows sections of a customer-specific circuit 1 called ASIC and a microcontroller or microprocessor 2 connected to the ASIC 1. Between the ASIC 1 and the microprocessor 2 there is a bidirectional data bus 3.
- the reference symbol K denotes a terminal of the detector which is applied a line voltage of 20 or 30 volts, for example.
- the ASIC 1 contains, among other things, the power management of the circuit, which in particular has a voltage regulator 4. This consists of a part integrated in the ASIC 1, which has a reference voltage source 5, a controller 6, register 7 and a communication interface 8, and a part provided outside the ASIC 1 with discrete components, namely an actuator 9 and a backup capacitor 10.
- the actuator 9 is preferably formed by a junction field-effect transistor (JFET) or by a depletion MOSFET and can therefore be controlled by the ASIC practically without current.
- the microprocessor 2 contains, among other things, a programmable non-volatile memory 11, for example a PROM, EPROM or EEPROM, and a communication interface 12.
- the voltage regulator 4 regulates the supply voltage from 20 or 30 V to the voltage U g required by the ASIC 1 and the microprocessor 2 with a value of 5 V, this value being matched as precisely as possible.
- the voltage U g passes from the voltage regulator 4 into the ASIC, which passes it on to the microprocessor 2.
- the voltage U g is adjusted in that the voltage regulator 4 is supplied with the required individual adjustment value at a defined point in time, preferably shortly after the start of the circuit, which can take place via the state of a register or the state of several digital signal lines .
- the individual adjustment value is determined by measuring the voltage U g ; this measurement is preferably carried out during the manufacturing process.
- the measured value of U g is compared with the target value U s and an adjustment code is calculated and written on the basis of the difference (U s - U g ).
- the comparison code can be, for example, 100 for the difference (U s - U g ) and 115 for a difference of + 0.15V, and so on. Then the voltage U g is compared with the adjustment code and then measured again and the difference (U s - U g ) is determined again. If the desired accuracy has not yet been achieved, a new adjustment code is calculated and written and the voltage U g is adjusted again. This iterative process is repeated until the desired accuracy is achieved. As soon as this is the case, the calibration code last calculated is written into the non-volatile memory 11 and is available there.
- the adjustment code representing the individual adjustment value is supplied, for example, shortly after the start of the circuit via the data bus 3 and the communication interface to the register 7 and from this into the controller 6, which then adjusts the voltage U accordingly g .
- the individual adjustment value could also be determined step by step by changing the adjustment code step by step until the desired accuracy is achieved.
- the program for the process for determining the individual adjustment value is stored either in the microprocessor 2 or in the test device used for this process.
- the adjustment value could possibly also be determined directly by the microprocessor 2 without using a special test device, but this would require a voltage measuring device and a suitable interface.
- the adjustment value could also be written into a non-volatile memory of the ASIC. Then, however, the ASIC would have to be specially equipped for the adjustment with a programmable non-volatile memory, whereas in the solution described the non-volatile memory 11 that is already present in the microprocessor 2 because it is required for other adjustment data of the fire detector is used.
Abstract
