Claims (12)

  1. A motor vehicle starter contactor (10), of the type comprising an annular cylindrical armature (14) which constitutes a casing, in which there is arranged a coil (18) that actuates an axially movable core (12), which acts on a control rod (31) that passes through the centre (20, 30) of a fixed core (22) in the form of a disc (24), which is arranged at one of the axial ends (28) of the armature (14), of the type in which the rod (31) controls displacements of a moving contact (54) which is arranged to cooperate with two fixed contact terminals (50, 52) in the power circuit for the motor of the starter, which are disposed in the base (34) of a cover piece (32) having the general form of a cylindrical pot, the skirt portion (36) of which delimits a housing (38) in which the moving contact (54) is arranged, and of the type which includes an electronic control circuit (76) for the contactor (10), comprising a support member (78), in particular a printed circuit board, together with components (82, 92, 94) carried by the support member (78), characterised in that the electronic control circuit (76) is disposed axially in the interior (42) of the cover piece (32) of the contactor (10).

A contactor according to Claim 1, characterised in that the support member (78) of the electronic control circuit (76) is a disc having a central through hole (79) to permit the body of the control rod (31, 58, 74) to pass through it, and which is disposed axially between the fixed core (22) and the moving contact (54).
  3. A contactor according to Claim 2, characterised in that the housing (38) of the cover piece (32), in which the moving contact (54)is arranged, is delimited axially by the base (34) of the cover piece (32) and by a plug (68) in the form of a disc, which is fixed axially in the skirt portion (36) of the cover piece (32) and has a central hole (72) for the control rod to pass through, and in that the skirt portion (36) of the cover piece (32) has an axial extension (40) beyond the plug (68) to define a cavity (42) of generally cylindrical form, in which the electronic control circuit (76) is arranged.
  4. A contactor according to Claim 3, characterised in that, in the rest position, the moving contact (54) is in axial engagement against a facing portion (64) of the plug (68).
  5. A contactor according to Claim 3 or Claim 4, characterised in that the plug (68) has a central sleeve portion (72) for guiding the control rod (74) in sliding movement.
  6. A contactor according to any one of Claims 3 to 5, characterised in that the body of the plug (68) has at least one aperture (100) to permit passage therethrough of some of the components (92, 94) of the electronic control circuit (76), which are disposed axially inside the cavity (42) and housing (38) of the moving contact (54).
  7. A contactor according to any one of Claims 3 to 6, characterised in that the body of the plug (6) has an aperture (102) for the passage therethrough of electrical connectors (104, 108) which extend axially between the electronic control circuit (76) and the base (34, 106) of the cover piece (32).
  8. A contactor according to Claim 7, characterised in that the connectors (104) are encapsulated in the base portion (34, 106) of the cover piece (32), which is of insulating material, and they extend axially, partly within the cover piece (32), towards the electronic control circuit (76, 82), and partly outside the cover piece.
  9. A contactor according to Claim 7 or Claim 8, characterised in that the moving contact (54) is made in the form of a rectangular plate, the lengthwise dimension of which is parallel to a diameter of the contactor (10), and in that the said aperture (100, 102) is offset radially with respect to a longitudinal edge (53) of the moving contact (54).
  10. A contactor according to any one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the annular free terminal edge (43) of that part (40) of the skirt portion (36) of the cover piece that is extended axially beyond the plug (68) is in axial engagement against the fixed core (25).
  11. A contactor according to Claim 2, characterised in that the support member (78) of the electronic control circuit (76) is secured by welding on an element which is part of the coil (18) and which extends axially through the fixed core.
  12. A motor vehicle starter, characterised in that it is equipped with a contactor according to any one of the preceding Claims.
