Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a guide for the blind with a receiver for switching waves emitted by a transmitter and reflectable on an obstacle, and with an electronic evaluation circuit for processing the received switching waves for the purpose of delivering a signal perceptible by the wearer of the guide for the blind when the distance between the receiver and the obstacle falls below a predetermined distance .
A blind guide of this type is e.g. B. become known from DE 28 16 530 A. The distance between the wearer of the device and an obstacle is determined according to the principle of the ultrasound radar device. A device with a similar effect according to DE 39 42 093 A is designed such that it can be integrated into headgear and provides the user with an acoustic image of the surroundings.
The invention has for its object to provide a guide for the blind, which can be used individually by the user, d. H. is not restricted to use in connection with a headgear. Furthermore, instead of an acoustic signal, mechanical signaling is to be made possible in order to keep the user's sense of hearing completely free for acoustic perceptions of the surroundings. So-called pulsators, which have mechanical tactile impulses acting on the head of a user, have become known from
According to the invention, the above object is achieved by a two-part design of the guide for the blind in such a way that a first unit contains the transmitter and the receiver and a device for attachment to the Has clothing of the wearer and that a second device unit contains a microcomputer controllable by the receiver, a power supply unit and a signal transmitter.
The two-part design of the guide for the blind offers the user numerous possibilities for a practical application. Since the first device unit contains only the transmitter and the receiver, it can be carried out with a relatively small size and is therefore easy to attach to clothing by means of a pin, a spring clip or similar means. The second device unit, which requires a somewhat larger design in view of the components provided, can then be carried in a pocket of the clothing or under the outer clothing. here too the user has the option of choosing a type of accommodation that suits them.
In the context of the invention, the first device unit can be connected to the second device unit by a flexible line, the second device unit preferably having a spatial shape suitable for being accommodated in a pocket of the wearer's clothing.
The use of the guide for the blind can be further facilitated by the fact that the second device unit contains rechargeable batteries as part of the power supply unit and a charging circuit for the batteries. It is therefore sufficient to occasionally connect the second device unit to a socket by means of a suitable connecting line in order to recharge the device unit for a further period of use.
The relatively small size of the first device unit offers the advantageous possibility of providing a pivoting device for aligning the first device unit relative to the clothing of the wearer. This allows the user achieve, for example, that obstacles lying horizontally in front of him or obstacles lying below are preferably detected, for example when walking down stairs.
A vibration signal of the type mentioned at the outset is particularly suitable as a signal generator. The mechanical vibrations emanating from the signal transmitter are perceived on the entire surface of the second device unit and, in this way, are also transmitted to the body surface if the second device unit is suitably accommodated on the clothing of the user. This can be achieved, for example, when carried in a pocket. On the other hand, this can also be perceived in an accommodation of the second device unit that is less in contact with the body by touching it with one hand.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiment shown in the figures.
