The present invention relates to a hearing aid for the hearing impaired with a receiving, amplifying and reproducing device for sound waves.
The hearing impaired often has problems listening to radio and television programs with his hearing aid. In order to achieve better intelligibility, he often uses the induction coil built into every hearing aid today. The prerequisite for inductive reception, however, is the presence of a magnetic field, which must be generated by means of an induction loop (PTT approval required) or another known additional device (hearing pad, etc.). The additional devices that are known to date and do not require a license are all connected to the radio or television with the help of a cable, which is a disadvantage for the disabled.
Recently, televisions and radios have been equipped with so-called infrared transmitter diodes. The modulated infrared rays emitted by this transmission unit can be received by means of a specially constructed head-end which is equipped with an infrared receiving device.
However, the hearing impaired cannot use this device without further ado, since, depending on the degree of difficulty with the headphones, a different sound impression arises for him than with his hearing aid with the specifically adapted frequency response. This may result in a deterioration in intelligibility.
The invention is based on the object of equipping a hearing aid for the hearing impaired in such a way that television and radio programs can also be received wirelessly with it.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the device is additionally equipped with a receiving device for infrared radiation modulated with low frequency.
The receiving device for this infrared radiation can preferably be designed as a phototransistor.
In the following, specific embodiments of the invention are described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Show it:
1 is a side plan view of a hearing aid which is equipped with an infrared receiver with a forward-facing characteristic,
2 is a side plan view of a hearing aid which has an infrared receiving device with a round character,
3 shows a basic circuit diagram of a hearing aid with an infrared receiving device,
4 shows a basic circuit diagram of a further exemplary embodiment of the hearing aid.
The hearing aid shown in Fig. 1 consists essentially of a housing 1, which contains the electrical components and the operating elements, as well as an acoustic sound conduction tube 11 and a structure 2 for the phototransistor 3. In the housing 1 are a microphone 7, an electroacoustic transducer 8, an amplifier 9 and a battery 10 housed. On the outside of the housing there is a volume control with main switch 6 and a function selector switch 5. A sound conduit tube 11 transmits the acoustic signals into the ear of the wearer of the hearing aid.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, the phototransistor 3 is mounted in the mechanical structure 2 and is directed forwards when the hearing aid is normally worn. The modulated infrared radiation 4 emitted by a radio or a television set is thus received particularly well in this case when the wearer's gaze is directed at the radio or television set. In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the phototransistor 3 is mounted on top of the hearing aid without a structure. As a result, the infrared radiation 4 can be received from all sides.
3 shows the basic circuit diagram of a hearing aid with an infrared receiver. In the uppermost position of the function selector switch 5 shown, only the microphone 7 is switched to receive. The alternating speech voltage passes through the coupling capacitor C1 to the amplifier 9 and to the electroacoustic converter 8. In the middle position of the switch 5, both the microphone 7 and the phototransistor 3 are switched to receive. The alternating voltage generated by the light falling on the phototransistor via the resistor R1 reaches the amplifier 9 and the electroacoustic converter 8 via the coupling capacitor C2 parallel to the alternating voltage originating from the microphone 7. In the lowest position of the switch 5, only the phototransistor is active.
Resistor R2 and capacitor C3 form a necessary, additional filter element for decoupling the supply voltage.
FIG. 4 shows a variant of the basic circuit diagram according to FIG. 3. Microphone 7 and phototransistor 3 can be connected in parallel and are set to receive together. The function selection switch 5 can be omitted in this case to simplify the operation. As a further variant, an additional induction coil I can be switched on in a second position of the function selector switch 5.
By additionally equipping a hearing aid for the hearing impaired with an infrared receiving device, various advantages can be achieved, for example the frequency response specifically required for the disabled person is retained. Furthermore, the hearing impaired is not restricted to a specific place, he does not need any additional facilities. There is also an improvement in intelligibility, as the relatively strong incident infrared signal controls the amplifier of the hearing aid more than the ambient noise controls the microphone (no disturbing influence from reverberant rooms).
Those who are difficult to use do not need to switch their device to a different type of reception, as is the case with induction reception, but instead automatically switches to infrared reception when they point their head towards the device (simplification for older people). The microphone does not need to be switched off. As a result, the hard of hearing can still hear the ambient noise and does not have the feeling of sitting in a deserted room.
