Definitions
- the invention is based on a device according to the preamble of claim 1 or a method according to the preamble of claim 7, or a device according to the preamble of claim 8.
- the film development is e.g. B. a tank with developer, a second tank with bleaching bath, a third tank with fixing bath and a fourth tank with stabilizer. Three tanks (developer, bleach-fix bath, stabilizer) are sufficient for paper development.
- the development devices mentioned are used in particular in the so-called minilab area, since these devices must also be installed in rooms in which there is no water connection. In development devices used in large laboratories, washing tanks are provided between some treatment stages in which the light-sensitive material is rinsed.
- the treatment baths are kept at a relatively high temperature in order to keep the dwell times in the individual baths as short as possible. This however, leads to a large amount of liquid evaporating from the baths, and a corresponding increase in concentration occurs in this way.
- the evaporation was compensated for by the fact that an operator added a quantity of water, which had been determined by experience, to each tank manually each day before switching on the device. On the one hand, this method was very imprecise and, on the other hand, it did not take into account evaporation during an operating day. So it could happen that the concentration of the individual baths in the evening was no longer within the permitted tolerance range.
- US Pat. No. 4,937,608 discloses a developing device in which automatic evaporation compensation is carried out.
- the room temperature, the room humidity and the temperature of the developer bath are measured. From these values, the amount of water that must be returned to the tank is determined.
- the object is achieved by a device having the characterizing features of claim 1 and a method having the characterizing features of claim 7.
- a reference container filled with water eliminates the need for a large number of sensors which are otherwise used for humidity and temperature measurements would have to be used. Since the same conditions apply to the reference tank as to the treatment tank, the two evaporation rates are directly comparable. It is therefore advantageous if the reference container is placed inside the device at a location that is exposed to conditions similar to the treatment tank itself in terms of temperature, humidity and air movement.
- the reference container can have at least one side wall in direct contact with a side wall of the tank. In the case of a plastic tank, the reference container can be formed in one piece with it.
- a particularly rapid response to changes in temperature in the treatment liquid can be achieved if the reference container is in direct contact with the treatment liquid.
- the reference container can either be installed in the tank itself, or it is integrated into the pumping circuit of the treatment liquid in such a way that the treatment liquid flows around it.
- the control that regulates the filling of the treatment tanks must be calibrated.
- the device is operated in standby mode for some time and then the evaporation amount of the tank and the reference container are measured. This determines a ratio (calibration factor) which determines which amount must be added to the tank when a certain amount has evaporated in the reference container.
- the float switch in the reference container only has an upper switching point.
- the control system is then designed so that during certain actions, for example when the device is switched on or off, as much water is supplied to the reference container until the float switch is at the upper switching point.
- the amount of water that was multiplied by the calibration factor was then added to the treatment tank in order to refill the reference container.
- the float switch is provided with a further lower switching point.
- the filling process is started here as soon as the lower switching point is reached.
- This lower switching point is set so that the concentration of the treatment bath is still in a tolerated range when the water level in the reference container has reached this lower switching point.
- the tank and the reference container are preferably automatically refilled at the same time.
- only one metering pump is provided for the water supply to the tank and the reference container.
- the different amounts of water to be supplied can then be regulated, for example, by different line cross sections.
- the metering pump can also be connected to the inlets for the reference container and the tank via a three-way valve, so that a time control is possible.
- the reference container is first filled until the upper switching point is reached and the time required for this is offset against the calibration factor, so that the filling time for the treatment tank can be determined in this way.
- a metering pump is provided for the treatment tank and the reference container, the metering performance of which is designed according to the calibration described above. These metering pumps can then be put into operation for the same time.
- the developing device shown in Fig. 1 is intended for photographic films and is mainly used in the minilab area.
- Tank 1 contains the developer, tank 2 the bleaching bath, tank 3 the fixing bath and tank 4 the stabilizer.
- a washing bath is not provided.
- a corresponding device for the development of photographic paper comes with three treatment tanks, which contain developer, bleach fixer and stabilizer. No washing bath is used in the Minilab area either.
- the photographic material passes through the different treatment tanks 1 to 4 and is then dehumidified in the dryer 5.
- Each treatment tank is provided with an inlet-side 6 and an outlet-side transport roller pair 7 with which the photographic material is conveyed into and out of the treatment liquid. Further deflection and transport rollers are not shown in the figures.
- a reference container 8 filled with water is attached directly to the treatment tank 4. This container is subjected to approximately the same conditions as the treatment tank 4. The warm air flowing in from the dryer 5 also acts on the reference container 8 in a similar way to the treatment tank 4 out.
- a sensor 9 is attached, each having a switching point for an upper and a lower water level.
- the sensor 9 is connected to a controller 11 which controls the metering pumps 13 via the lines 12. These suck in water from the reservoir 15 via the lines 14.
- the water is supplied to the distributors 17 via the lines 16.
- Each distributor 17 is assigned an inlet 18 for the inlet-side 6 and for the outlet-side roller pair 7 of each treatment tank.
- the inlet 18 can be designed as an open hose or pipe end, since the supplied water is adequately distributed on the relatively narrow rollers.
- the inlets 18 are advantageously designed as described in FIG. 2.
- a tube 19 is provided, which is attached parallel to the axes of the rollers 6, 7. On its side facing the rollers, the tube 19 is provided with outlet openings 20. This makes it possible to achieve a uniform distribution of the water over the roller unit.
- the control 11 sets the metering pumps 13 into operation for the respectively predetermined time.
- the upper switching point of the sensor 9 is used only for safety and to avoid malfunctions.
- the control unit doses the pump responsible for this container.
- the measured operating time of this dosing pump is then multiplied by the calibration factors for the individual tanks and the operating time for the remaining dosing pumps is thereby determined. After this time, the control switches off the metering pumps individually.
- a sensor 21, 22 connected to the control 11 can be provided in front of the rollers 6 of the first treatment tank 1 and after the rollers 7 of the last treatment tank 4. In this way it can be determined whether there is photographic material in the treatment section or whether it is free.
- the controller 11 delays the start of the metering pumps 13 until the end of the photographic material is detected by the sensor 22 on the outlet side.
- Development devices which only have the sensor 21 on the input side and each detect when photographic material is supplied to the device. The system then switches from standby to operating mode. This mode is maintained for a period of time necessary to move the material through the entire device. If further material is fed to the processor during this time, the counter is reset and the Time starts again. When the time expires, the device automatically switches back to standby mode.
- this type of development device it is easily possible to program the controller 11 in such a way that the metering pumps are only put into operation in the standby mode. This also reliably prevents the supplied water from coming into contact with the photographic material and thus causing quality fluctuations.

Description
The invention is based on a device according to the preamble of claim 1 or a method according to the preamble of
In the development of photographic films and photographic paper, the light-sensitive material is transported after exposure through several tanks that are filled with different treatment liquids. The film development is e.g. B. a tank with developer, a second tank with bleaching bath, a third tank with fixing bath and a fourth tank with stabilizer. Three tanks (developer, bleach-fix bath, stabilizer) are sufficient for paper development. The development devices mentioned are used in particular in the so-called minilab area, since these devices must also be installed in rooms in which there is no water connection. In development devices used in large laboratories, washing tanks are provided between some treatment stages in which the light-sensitive material is rinsed.
The treatment baths are kept at a relatively high temperature in order to keep the dwell times in the individual baths as short as possible. This however, leads to a large amount of liquid evaporating from the baths, and a corresponding increase in concentration occurs in this way. In the Minilab area, the evaporation was compensated for by the fact that an operator added a quantity of water, which had been determined by experience, to each tank manually each day before switching on the device. On the one hand, this method was very imprecise and, on the other hand, it did not take into account evaporation during an operating day. So it could happen that the concentration of the individual baths in the evening was no longer within the permitted tolerance range.
No. 4,937,608 discloses a developing device in which automatic evaporation compensation is carried out. In order to determine the amount of the evaporated liquid with sufficient accuracy, the room temperature, the room humidity and the temperature of the developer bath are measured. From these values, the amount of water that must be returned to the tank is determined.
However, it has been found that such evaporation compensation is not only expensive due to the large number of sensors required, but is also too imprecise, since far more parameters than the measured ones are relevant for evaporation. For example, the hot air coming from the dryer and sweeping over the bathroom surfaces has a very strong effect. The blower, which is intended to extract developer vapors, also has a major influence on the evaporation rate.
It was therefore the object of the invention to provide a system for compensating the evaporated liquid, which works inexpensively and with the necessary accuracy.
The object is achieved by a device having the characterizing features of claim 1 and a method having the characterizing features of
A particularly rapid response to changes in temperature in the treatment liquid can be achieved if the reference container is in direct contact with the treatment liquid. For this purpose, it can either be installed in the tank itself, or it is integrated into the pumping circuit of the treatment liquid in such a way that the treatment liquid flows around it.
In previous attempts, there were always great difficulties when the liquid level in the treatment tank should be checked using a float switch. Due to the high concentration of the treatment liquid, there was a constant crystallization, which prevented a sufficiently precise measurement. These problems do not arise when using a reference container filled with water. There is no concern about sensing the level of pure water with an inexpensive float switch.
If a corresponding automatic evaporation compensation is installed in a photographic treatment device, the control that regulates the filling of the treatment tanks must be calibrated. For this purpose, the device is operated in standby mode for some time and then the evaporation amount of the tank and the reference container are measured. This determines a ratio (calibration factor) which determines which amount must be added to the tank when a certain amount has evaporated in the reference container.
In a simple embodiment, the float switch in the reference container only has an upper switching point. The control system is then designed so that during certain actions, for example when the device is switched on or off, as much water is supplied to the reference container until the float switch is at the upper switching point. The amount of water that was multiplied by the calibration factor was then added to the treatment tank in order to refill the reference container.
In a second embodiment, which works much more precisely, the float switch is provided with a further lower switching point. The filling process is started here as soon as the lower switching point is reached. This lower switching point is set so that the concentration of the treatment bath is still in a tolerated range when the water level in the reference container has reached this lower switching point.
The tank and the reference container are preferably automatically refilled at the same time. In an inexpensive variant, only one metering pump is provided for the water supply to the tank and the reference container. The different amounts of water to be supplied can then be regulated, for example, by different line cross sections. On the other hand, the metering pump can also be connected to the inlets for the reference container and the tank via a three-way valve, so that a time control is possible. The reference container is first filled until the upper switching point is reached and the time required for this is offset against the calibration factor, so that the filling time for the treatment tank can be determined in this way.
In a more precise working embodiment, a metering pump is provided for the treatment tank and the reference container, the metering performance of which is designed according to the calibration described above. These metering pumps can then be put into operation for the same time.
For the required measurement accuracy, it is normally sufficient to provide only one reference container in a photographic treatment device which has several treatment tanks, by means of which the evaporation compensation of all treatment tanks is controlled.
Further details and advantages of the invention emerge from the subclaims in connection with the description of an exemplary embodiment, which is explained in detail with reference to the drawing.

The developing device shown in Fig. 1 is intended for photographic films and is mainly used in the minilab area. Tank 1 contains the developer, tank 2 the bleaching bath, tank 3 the fixing bath and tank 4 the stabilizer. A washing bath is not provided. A corresponding device for the development of photographic paper comes with three treatment tanks, which contain developer, bleach fixer and stabilizer. No washing bath is used in the Minilab area either. The photographic material passes through the different treatment tanks 1 to 4 and is then dehumidified in the
A reference container 8 filled with water is attached directly to the treatment tank 4. This container is subjected to approximately the same conditions as the treatment tank 4. The warm air flowing in from the
For cost reasons, it makes sense to use metering pumps 13 with the same metering volume. When the system is calibrated, the treatment tanks and the reference container then have different times for which the metering pumps 13 have to be started in order to replenish the amount of water evaporated. These times are stored in the
Nach Ablauf dieser Zeit schaltet die Steuerung die Dosierpumpen einzeln ab.If the water level in the reference container 8 now falls to the lower switching point of the
By arranging the
In order to ensure a constant quality of the photographic materials developed, it must be ensured that the metering pumps 13 are only put into operation when the
Development devices are known which only have the sensor 21 on the input side and each detect when photographic material is supplied to the device. The system then switches from standby to operating mode. This mode is maintained for a period of time necessary to move the material through the entire device. If further material is fed to the processor during this time, the counter is reset and the Time starts again. When the time expires, the device automatically switches back to standby mode. With this type of development device, it is easily possible to program the
