Definitions
- the invention lies in the field of cable shielding recovery devices.
- Such devices are used to connect a cable or strand of shielded cables, for example to an electrical connector, or more generally to a housing into which penetrates at least part of the cables constituting the strand.
- the device object of Figure 1 has a symmetry of revolution about a longitudinal axis XX '.
- This longitudinal axis makes it possible to define a front part of the device located in this case on the right of the figure and a rear part located in this case on the left of the figure.
- the front part is the connection part of the cable or cable strand. It corresponds to one end of the cable which must be connected to a connector or to a box. This is the exit end of the cable.
- the rear end of the device is the entry end of the cable or cable strand.
- the device represented in FIG. 1 essentially comprises from the outlet end of the cable to the inlet end, that is to say from the right to the left of the figure, a metal chamber 11, a chimney 17 and a nut 25 of connection of the chamber 11 and the chimney 17.
- a metal chamber 11 that is to say from the right to the left of the figure
- a chimney 17 that is to say from the right to the left of the figure
- FIG. 1 only a rear part of the chamber 11 is shown.
- the purpose of the device is essentially to enclose the outlet end of the cables inside a chamber, the chamber 11, this chamber being made electromagnetically sealed.
- the outlet end of the chamber (not shown in FIG. 1) is equipped with connection means making it possible to connect it electromagnetically sealed, for example to a connector or to a housing.
- the rear end of the chamber is equipped with means for rendering the rear end of the device electromagnetically sealed.
- the rear end of the metal chamber has a re-entrant wall 13. This wall has an opening 15.
- the rear part of the metal chamber 11 being hollow cylindrical, the diameter of the opening 15 is less than the inside diameter of the chamber.
- the chimney is cylindrical. Its outside diameter is smaller than the diameter of the opening 15 made in the wall 13, so that the chimney can slide in the chamber 11.
- the chimney is equipped with a shoulder 23 whose outside diameter is less than the inside diameter of the chamber 11, but greater than the diameter of the opening 15 of the rear wall 13 of chamber 11. It follows that the chimney 17 must be introduced into chamber 11 through the front end of this chamber. The chimney can then slide towards the rear of the chamber until the shoulder 23 comes into contact with the rear wall 13 of the chamber 11. At this time an external thread 21 of the chimney is outside from the room. The nut 25, once tightened on this thread 21 maintains the shoulder 23 against the wall 13 thus ensuring the electromagnetic sealing of the rear part of the chamber 11.
- Shielding recovery devices are often used to electromagnetically seal the cable ends of a cable strand inside an electromagnetically sealed envelope of a shielded connector.
- this shielding shell of the connector is terminated at its rear part by a threaded part allowing the connection with the chamber of the shielding recovery device.
- the internal diameter at the front part of the connection chamber of the shielding recovery device is determined by the value of the connection diameter of the rear part of the casing of the connector.
- the shoulder 23 of the chimney which must enter the chamber through this front part of the chamber must therefore necessarily have a smaller outside diameter or at most equal, with tolerances, to the inside diameter of this front part of the chamber.
- the first drawback of the device as described in FIG. 1 of the cited patent stems from the fact that the part of the chimney whose internal diameter is the smallest does not allow the passage of n cables which it would be possible to connect to the connector.
- the second drawback also results from the method of introducing the chimney into the chamber of the connection device.
- the introduction of the chimney being done from the front the use of a device as described in this patent becomes difficult when the connection chamber of the device is bent. In this case the length of the diagonal line of the elbow determines the maximum length that the chimney can have.
- the chimney has, as shown in Figure 3 of the aforementioned patent, an extension in front of the shoulder 23.
- Figure 3 is shown in Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings.
- This figure shows a side view of a chimney 17 mounted on a cable 29.
- a front end 35 of the chimney 17 is used as an earth contact.
- the metal envelopes of each of the cables of the strand are in a known manner folded down over this part 35.
- a crimping ring 39 holds the folded parts 37 of the metal envelopes for shielding the cables, tightened against the part 35.
- the length of the chimney is an addition of lengths comprising at least the length of the part 35 on which the metal casings of the cables are folded down, the length of the shoulder 23 and the length of the chimney part 21 external to the chamber 11.
- the present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks. It also offers a cable shielding recovery device which, compared to the prior art, makes it easier to install the cable, in particular for elbow fittings. Finally, it aims for a recovery device cable shielding which does not significantly increase the size in the vicinity of the end of the cable, which is therefore of reasonable mass and simple to manufacture.
- the problem of limiting the number of cables that it is possible to pass in the chimney was due to the internal diameter of the chimney which is necessarily, according to the prior art, smaller than the diameter of connection of the chamber on the connector sealing envelope.
- the difference in diameter comes essentially from the difference between the outside diameter of the shoulder 23 and the diameter of the opening 15.
- the shoulder of the chimney has an outside diameter greater than the inside diameter of the rear end of the chamber or less than the inside diameter of a one or more part connection between the chamber and the shoulder. In this way the chimney slides into the room no longer from the front but from the rear.
- the important thing for ensuring the rear seal is that a continuous surface of conductive material is in contact over the entire periphery of the chimney on the one hand and over the entire periphery of the chamber on the other hand. It may be a surface produced by a flexible material, for example fret on each of the parts.
- the conductive surface generally consists of a shoulder in electrical contact with the periphery of the chimney and with the periphery of the chamber.
- the chamber or the shoulder need not have an outer perimeter of circular shape. It should be noted, however, that for obvious reasons of simplicity of manufacture, this form is the most common.
- the invention relates to a device intended to shield the ends of a strand of shielded cables, these ends having to be introduced into a shielding envelope, the device comprising a chamber having along an axial line.
- XX 'of the device two ends, a front end close to the ends of the cables and a rear end distant from these ends, an internal surface of the chamber defining an internal volume of the chamber, a chimney at least part of which is located outside the chamber near its rear end, the chimney having an internal surface and an external surface, the internal surface of the chimney defining a volume intended for accommodate part of the strand, the chimney having along the axial line XX ′ of the device two ends, a front end close to the ends of the cable and a rear rear end, the electromagnetic seal at the rear end of the chamber being provided by means in continuous electrical contact on the one hand over the entire periphery of the chimney and on the other hand over the entire periphery of the chamber, device characterized in that the contact means between the chimney and the chamber form together a part
- the means ensuring contact between the chimney and the chamber are constituted by the shoulder 23.
- This shoulder is in this case part of the chimney 17.
- the diameter of this shoulder is less to the inside diameter of the chamber 11.
- a cross section of this shoulder along a plane perpendicular to the axis of the chimney and the chamber, has an external shape of a circle.
- the outer perimeter of the shoulder is at most equal to the perimeter of the cross section of the chamber since the shoulder 23 is housed in the chamber.
- the contact means also consist of a shoulder of the chimney.
- This shoulder to have an outer perimeter of cross section larger than the inner perimeter of the straight section of the chamber, requires that this shoulder is outside the chamber.
- the outside diameter of the chimney can be equal, to within tolerances, to the inside diameter of the chamber. This will suffice in most cases so that the number of cables entering the shielding device can be equal to the number of cables allowed on the shielded connection connector.
- the contact means consist of at least two sectoral shells, these sectoral shells are in contact on the one hand on a sector of the periphery of the chimney and on the other hand on a sector of the chamber.
- the sector shells ensure contact between the periphery of the chimney and the periphery of the chamber.
- FIG. 3 represents in its lower part a half-view in section along an axial plane of a chamber 11 and in its upper part a lateral half-view of this same chamber.
- the chamber 11 shown in Figure 3 is of revolution about a longitudinal axis XX '.
- a nut 10 has been added for information, connected to the chamber 11, in a known manner by means of a circlip 9.
- the nut 10 movable in rotation on the chamber 11 allows the sealed connection of the chamber. to a shielded connector housing or enclosure.
- a thread 8 of the nut is of the standard dimensions provided as a function of the number of pins of the connector and the diameter of these pins.
- the chamber 11 has two ends, a first end 7 constitutes the outlet or front end of the chamber. A second end 6 constitutes the inlet or rear end of the chamber.
- Chamber 11 has a front part 5 and a rear part 4.
- the front part 5 has a smaller internal diameter than that of the rear part 4.
- the diameter of the part 5 has dimensions close to that of the internal diameter of the casing for connecting the housing or the connector to which the cable must be connected.
- a protective sheath for the entire strand and / or protective sheaths for each of the cables have been removed.
- the diameter of the rear section 4 is larger because it must allow the housing of the chimney which itself houses the cable.
- the internal surface of the chamber 11 has only two values of diameter, one for the front part 5 and one for the rear part 4. These two surfaces are connected by a connection surface 1. If conditions of external space required a closer monitoring of the ribs of the parts housed in the chamber, it would be possible to conceive of advantages of detaching the internal surface to allow smaller diameters of the external surface. If, on the contrary, there were no space constraints, the front 5 and rear 4 parts could have the same diameter.
- a rear exterior part 3 of the chamber 11 is threaded.
- the thickness of the externally threaded tube constituting the rear part 4 of the chamber 11 constitutes at its rear end 6 a surface 2 having a crown shape whose internal diameter is the internal diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11 and whose outer diameter is the outer diameter of the rear end 6.
- FIG. 4 represents an exemplary embodiment of a chimney 17 incorporated into a shielding recovery device according to the invention.
- the chimney has an external surface 16 and an internal surface 12. It is terminated by two ends 14, 22. The first 14 is the front end. The second 22 is the rear end.
- the internal surface 12 is a cylindrical surface of revolution of the same diameter, in this example, all along the chimney. With the exception of two notches 26, 28 which will be discussed below, the external surface 16 of the chimney 17 is also of revolution.
- the example shown is similar to the example of the prior art shown in Figure 2 of this application.
- the chimney may not have a front part 35 housed in the chamber as shown for example in Figure 2 of the aforementioned patent. If necessary, it will include a front part housed in the chamber and intended in connection with sectoral shells which will be discussed later to ensure the centering of the chimney.
- the chimney may also have the form shown in Figure 4 of the cited patent.
- the chimney comprises a front part 35 which in the assembly of the device is housed inside the chamber 11.
- This front part 35 ends in a shoulder 32 projecting radially from the front part of the outer surface 16.
- this shoulder 32 is intended to be housed outside the chamber 11.
- This shoulder has on its front part a radial projecting surface 36.
- This surface is in the form of 'a crown whose internal diameter is that of the external diameter of the front part 35 of the chimney 17.
- the value of the external diameter of this shoulder is greater than or at most equal to the internal diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11 according to the embodiment.
- this shoulder serves as a means of contact between the chamber and the chimney.
- the outside diameter of the shoulder is greater than the inside diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- the surface 36 comes into contact with the surface 2 of the rear end of the chamber 11 .
- the contact means consist of sector shells, one of which exemplary embodiment will be described in connection with FIG. 5.
- the front surface 36 of the shoulder 32 bears on the sector shells.
- the sectoral shells are themselves in abutment on the surface 2 of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- the advantage of this preferred mode is to allow, as explained above, greater recoil of the chamber 11 along the fireplace. This interest therefore supposes that the outside diameter of the shoulder 32 is in this case at most equal to the tolerances close to the diameter of the rear part 4 of the chamber 11.
- the shoulder 32 can be introduced into the chamber 11 to the bottom of the rear part 4.
- sectoral shells 40 will now be described in connection with FIG. 5.
- these are two half-shells 40 each covering a sector of 180 °.
- the number of sector shells may vary. The main thing is that the shells together cover a 360 ° sector.
- FIG. 5a shows in its lower part a section along an axial plane of a half-shell and in its upper part a side view.
- FIG. 5b represents an exploded view from the right of the two half-shells.
- the two half-shells 40 are essentially in the form of two thick half-rings.
- the outside diameter of the washer formed by the assembly of the shells is greater than the inside diameter of the rear end of the chamber 11. In this way at least part 46 of the front surface of each shell comes to bear in the assembly on the rear surface 2 of the chamber 11.
- the internal diameter of the washer formed by the assembly of the shells is equal to the tolerances close to the diameter of the external surface 16 of the chimney 17 which is immediately in front of the shoulder 32.
- the shoulder 32 comes into the assembled device bearing by its front surface 36 on at least part of the rear surface 42 of the shells 40.
- the shells 40 are used, in addition to their electromagnetic sealing contact functions, to ensure the centering of the chimney.
- each shell 40 has a front part 43 and a rear part 44.
- the outside diameter of the front part 43 is equal to the tolerances near the inside diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- This part front 43 is in the assembled device, inside the chamber 11.
- this front part could have a slightly frustoconical lateral surface, the part of smaller diameter being located at the front of the shell .
- the outside diameter of the rear part 44 is larger than the inside diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- the front parts 43 and 44 are connected together by a radial surface 45. In the assembled device it is this surface 45 which constitutes at least part of the contact surface 46 between the shells and the rear surface 2 of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- Figure 6 shows in its lower part a half-section through an axial plane of a nut 50 which in the preferred embodiment or in its variant allows the assembly of the chimney 17 and the chamber 11.
- the nut 50 has an internally threaded portion 49 located in front of the nut and a rear partition 48 located behind the nut.
- the rear partition 48 is pierced with an opening 47 centered on the axis XX '.
- the partition 48 has an internal bearing surface 51.
- the diameter of the opening 47 allows the passage of the chimney part 17 located behind the shoulder 32. Preferably, it is equal, with tolerances, to the diameter of the part of the chimney 17 located immediately behind this shoulder 32.
- the nut 50 presses the front surface 36 of the shoulder 32 against the surface 2 of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- l 'shoulder 32 may have, like the washer formed by the set of shells 40, a front part intended to ensure the centering of the chimney.
- This front part of the shoulder 32 then, like the front part 43 of the shells, has a diameter equal to the tolerances close to the internal diameter of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11.
- the nut 50 presses the front surface 36 of the shoulder 32 against the rear surface 42 of the shells 40.
- the tapped part 49 of the nut 50 cooperates with the externally threaded part 3 of the chamber 11 .
- FIG. 7a represents a view of such a tab perpendicular to the axial direction XX ′
- FIG. 7b represents a straight view of this same tab.
- the chimney part 17 external to the chamber 11 may comprise two symmetrical notches 26, 28. These notches allow, in cooperation with two tabs 60, to tighten the cable on the chimney.
- Each tab 60 is in the form of a flat rod forming in its middle a concavity 59. The width of each rod measured parallel to the axis XX 'is at most equal to the length of the notches 26, 28 measured along this same axis.
- the legs 60 are provided on either side of the central concavity 59 with holes 58. These holes 58 constitute, with bolts not shown, means for tightening the cable on the chimney 59.
- the concavities 59 are in the assembled device at least partially housed in the notches 26, 28 of the chimney, which immobilizes them in the axial direction.
- the device comprises the chamber 11 as described in connection with FIG. 3, with at its first end, sealed connection means 10, here in the form of a nut 10.
- the device also includes the chimney 17.
- the electromagnetically sealed assembly between the chimney 17 and the chamber 11 is ensured by means of the nut 50 and the shells 40.
- the shells 40 also ensure the centering of the chimney 17 by their internal lateral surface which is in contact with the part of the external lateral surface 16 of the chimney located immediately in front of the shoulder 32, and by the external lateral surface of their front part 43 which is in contact with the internal lateral surface of the rear end 6 (FIG. 3) of the chamber 11.
- the connection surface 45 between the front 43 and rear 44 parts of the shells comes to bear on the surface 2 of the rear end 6 of the chamber 11 (FIG. 3).
- the shoulder 32 of the chimney 17 bears on the rear surface 42 of the sector shells 40.
- the nut 50 which is connected to the thread 3 of the chamber ensures by its support on the rear surface of the shoulder 32 the axial maintenance of the assembly. Naturally, this axial maintenance could be ensured by any other known means.
- the shells 40 can be spaced radially and the shoulder 32 can then slide in the chamber 11 until it comes into abutment on the surface 1 connecting the front 5 and rear 4 parts of the chamber 11, or completely free if this connection is not necessary.
- the concave parts 59 of the legs 60 clamp the cable through the notches 26, 28 of the chimney 17.
- FIG. 8 shows a cable 29 introduced into the assembled device according to the invention.
- the cables 41 forming the strand have been stripped of their individual shielding and these shields as well as possibly an external sheath 31 of overall shielding are folded in a known manner on the front part 35 of the chimney .
- the folded-down part 37 is held for example by a crimping ring 39 on the front part 35. If there is a shielding, this can be connected to the rear of the chimney. This embodiment avoids congestion in the chamber 11, the diameter of which can then be reduced.
- the difference between the internal diameter of the chimney and the internal diameter of the chamber results in this case from the need for the internal diameter of the chimney 17 to allow the passage of the strand, and for the internal diameter of the chamber 11 to allow the housing of the folded-down part 37 and in this case of the crimping ring 39.
Abstract
Description
The invention lies in the field of cable shielding recovery devices.
Such devices are used to connect a cable or strand of shielded cables, for example to an electrical connector, or more generally to a housing into which penetrates at least part of the cables constituting the strand.
L'état connu de la technique qui paraît le plus proche de l'invention est décrit dans le brevet DE 4 013 963.The known state of the art which appears closest to the invention is described in patent DE 4,013,963.
Figure 1 of this patent is reproduced and is the subject of Figure 1 of this application.
The device object of Figure 1 has a symmetry of revolution about a longitudinal axis XX '. This longitudinal axis makes it possible to define a front part of the device located in this case on the right of the figure and a rear part located in this case on the left of the figure. The front part is the connection part of the cable or cable strand. It corresponds to one end of the cable which must be connected to a connector or to a box. This is the exit end of the cable. The rear end of the device is the entry end of the cable or cable strand.
The device represented in FIG. 1 essentially comprises from the outlet end of the cable to the inlet end, that is to say from the right to the left of the figure, a
This device will now be explained according to the aim pursued.
The purpose of the device is essentially to enclose the outlet end of the cables inside a chamber, the
For this, the outlet end of the chamber (not shown in FIG. 1) is equipped with connection means making it possible to connect it electromagnetically sealed, for example to a connector or to a housing. The rear end of the chamber is equipped with means for rendering the rear end of the device electromagnetically sealed. The rear end of the metal chamber has a re-entrant
To make the rear part of the
Although marketed and giving satisfaction, this type of device has two main drawbacks.
Shielding recovery devices are often used to electromagnetically seal the cable ends of a cable strand inside an electromagnetically sealed envelope of a shielded connector. In general, this shielding shell of the connector is terminated at its rear part by a threaded part allowing the connection with the chamber of the shielding recovery device. As a result, the internal diameter at the front part of the connection chamber of the shielding recovery device is determined by the value of the connection diameter of the rear part of the casing of the connector. The
In summary, the first drawback of the device as described in FIG. 1 of the cited patent stems from the fact that the part of the chimney whose internal diameter is the smallest does not allow the passage of n cables which it would be possible to connect to the connector.
The second drawback also results from the method of introducing the chimney into the chamber of the connection device. The introduction of the chimney being done from the front the use of a device as described in this patent becomes difficult when the connection chamber of the device is bent. In this case the length of the diagonal line of the elbow determines the maximum length that the chimney can have. In most cases the chimney has, as shown in Figure 3 of the aforementioned patent, an extension in front of the
The present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks.
It was explained above that the problem of limiting the number of cables that it is possible to pass in the chimney was due to the internal diameter of the chimney which is necessarily, according to the prior art, smaller than the diameter of connection of the chamber on the connector sealing envelope. The difference in diameter comes essentially from the difference between the outside diameter of the
In the device described in patent DE 4,013,963, the means ensuring contact between the chimney and the chamber are constituted by the
In a first embodiment of the invention, the contact means also consist of a shoulder of the chimney. The condition imposed on this shoulder to have an outer perimeter of cross section larger than the inner perimeter of the straight section of the chamber, requires that this shoulder is outside the chamber.
In this way the outside diameter of the chimney can be equal, to within tolerances, to the inside diameter of the chamber. This will suffice in most cases so that the number of cables entering the shielding device can be equal to the number of cables allowed on the shielded connection connector.
It is also noted that due to the new architecture of the chimney, this is in this embodiment, introduced into the room by its second end, that is to say the one which is located on the cable side. In the case of an angled chamber, then it is not necessary that the chimney crosses the elbow. The elbow only needs to be crossed by the flexible part of the cable which greatly facilitates assembly.
In the preferred embodiment the contact means consist of at least two sectoral shells, these sectoral shells are in contact on the one hand on a sector of the periphery of the chimney and on the other hand on a sector of the chamber. When assembled, the sector shells ensure contact between the periphery of the chimney and the periphery of the chamber. The advantage obtained by the use of these shells comes from the fact that the chimney can be introduced, in the absence of these shells deeper in the room or other way of saying that the room can be moved further back on the cable. In the event of intervention on a connector already mounted, the chamber can be moved back towards the cable and the working space which includes the connector and the end of the cable is cleared.

In the description which follows to facilitate comparison with the closest prior art as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the parts having the same function as in the prior art bear the same numbers.
In the example shown, the
There is no difficulty either in creating a space inside the
The example shown is similar to the example of the prior art shown in Figure 2 of this application. Naturally the chimney may not have a
In the preferred embodiment the chimney comprises a
Dans le dispositif assemblé la surface 36 vient au contact de la surface 2 de l'extrémité arrière de la chambre 11.In a first embodiment, this shoulder serves as a means of contact between the chamber and the chimney. In this first mode, the outside diameter of the shoulder is greater than the inside diameter of the
In a second embodiment which is the preferred embodiment, the contact means consist of sector shells, one of which exemplary embodiment will be described in connection with FIG. 5. In this preferred embodiment the
FIG. 5b represents an exploded view from the right of the two half-shells. The two half-
In the first embodiment, the
Before describing the assembly of the preferred embodiment, it will be described below in connection with FIG. 7 of the cable clamping lugs coming to be received partially in the
Ces trous 58 constituent avec des boulons non représenté des moyens de serrage du câble sur la cheminée 59.It has been seen above that, according to an alternative embodiment, the
These bolts make it possible, by reducing the distance between the
The assembly of the preferred embodiment will now be described in conjunction with Figure 8. In its upper part this figure represents a half side view, and in its lower part a half-section through an axial plane of the preferred embodiment of an assembled device according to the invention.
The
When the
The difference between the internal diameter of the chimney and the internal diameter of the chamber results in this case from the need for the internal diameter of the
