Description
The invention relates to the use of a copper-zinc alloy for drinking water installations, especially for manufacturing of fittings, connectors and other Objects in short or persistent contact with Drinking water.
Preferred for the production of drinking water installations Copper-zinc alloys with copper contents between 57 and 63% and zinc contents between 36 and 40% (the% figures relate to the weight). For the Further and finishing of these materials are their cutting properties really important. By the Alloying the element lead in levels up to typically 3.5% excellent machinability is achieved since lead has practically no miscibility with the matrix elements Has copper and zinc and in the form of homogeneously distributed, globular excretion particle acts as a chip breaker. The Materials CuZn36Pb3, CuZn39Pb2 and CuZn39Pb3 are examples of such alloys, also known as automatic brasses represents.
In addition to the processing advantages, however recently the toxic effect of lead on the element human organism in numerous medical examinations clearly documented. It could be demonstrated that lead in considerable quantities cannot be obtained from the Respiratory tract, but also through food and preferably is absorbed via drinking water. Of these are infants and toddlers particularly affected. That fact was i.a. by banning Pb-containing solder in drinking water installations Taken into account.
During the drinking water ordinance of the Federal Republic Germany a limit of 40 µg Pb per liter of drinking water the World Health Organization recommends (WHO) in their revised draft for the guidelines for drinking water quality a maximum value of 10 µg Pb per Liter. In the state of California in the United States America is discussing bills that will Provide a limit of 0.25 µg Pb per liter of drinking water.
References and own investigations with synthetic Test water results in the limit of 10 µg Pb per liter of drinking water from those customary for fittings Machining brass with contents between 1.5 and 3% Pb not adhered to safely. Copper-zinc alloys with clear on the one hand, less than 1% Pb fulfills that of WHO formulated the demand, but on the other hand indicate the too little Pb addition no longer that for processing required machining properties.
In order to reduce the bleeding in Pb-containing cutting brasses, various methods have been described in the literature for treating the affected objects in a sodium acetate solution. The method is based on the idea of selective leaching of lead and the associated depletion of lead in the near-surface areas of the object. However, investigations by Paige and Covino (Corrosion, 48 , 12, pp. 1040 to 1046) prove that the pretreatment in sodium acetate solution does not lead to a noticeable reduction in the lead release compared to the untreated materials with any of the Pb-containing test alloys. In the most favorable case, lubricating films resulting from the machining can be removed from the surface, but there is no lasting protection against further lead release from the material.
As an essential Lead is included in the material up to alloyed to 3.5%, so that the demand for a clear Reduction of the nonchalance can not be met can.
Already in 1934, US Pat. No. 1,959,509 was used for copper alloys the machinability of alloying of bismuth in levels between 1 and 6%. JP-OS 54-135618 describes a copper-zinc alloy with 58 to 65% Cu, their machinability on the Addition of 0.5 to 1.5% Bi based. Lead-free copper-zinc alloys with improved cutting properties and Bismuth content between 0.5 and 1.5% or 1.8 and 5% are described in U.S. Patents 5,167,726 and 5,137,685.
The substitution of lead with bismuth is fulfilled on the one hand the demand for drinking water installations for Pb poor or Pb-free materials, but on the other hand brings manufacturing technology Risks.
It is well known that even low levels of impurities of bismuth, the hot formability of copper and Copper materials, especially the technically common Brasses, bronzes and nickel silver alloys in significant Dimensions worsen. This phenomenon is due to wetting reactions of liquid bismuth at the grain boundaries of the Material and the resulting warm brittleness attributed.
Of particular importance is the fact that bismuth and Lead due to its position in the periodic table of the elements have a high degree of chemical kinship. Both In nature, elements are often associated with one another. While the toxic effects of lead are sufficient has been researched, there are still no clear statements on the effect of bismuth on the human organism.
The invention is therefore based on the object for the above. Propose a copper alloy to use the one Favorable machining behavior for further processing and contains neither lead nor bismuth as components.
The object is achieved by the use of a Copper-zinc alloy with the composition specified in claim 1 dissolved.
The percentages relate to the weight.)
Dispersoids act in a similar way to lead as a chip breaker, if they exist as discrete particles. you will be already in the form of powders with the appropriate particle size introduced into the melt. The dispersoid must a thermally so stable that it is in the casting process does not decompose or melt, on the other hand thermodynamically stable against reactions with the matrix elements copper and be zinc. In order to achieve a segregation that is as low as possible to achieve in the melt and the solidified casting structure, the dispersoid particles must be well wettable and you specific weight should correspond approximately to that of the melt.
Die in Tabelle 1 aufgeführten Verbindungen erfüllen diese
Kriterien. Der Schmelzpunkt des Dispersoids dient als Maß
zur Beurteilung seiner thermischen Stabilität.
Vorzugsweise beträgt der Gesamtgehalt der Dispersoide 0,5 bis 3 %.The total content of the dispersoids is preferably 0.5 to 3 %.
The machinability of a copper-zinc alloy can be achieved by the addition of elements that match the matrix elements in the solid state are not miscible, but with participation form intermetallic phases of copper and / or zinc, be improved. You should avoid primary crystallization no high melting temperatures from the melt exhibit.
The elements yttrium and zirconium form copper and zinc intermetallic compounds with melting points below 980 ° C. Zirconium reacts with copper at 1116 ° C to Cu 4 Zr and at about 1050 ° C to Cu 6 Zr. The intermetallic phases are then, like the dispersion particles, as discrete particles at the grain boundaries.
Vorzugsweise beträgt der Gesamtgehalt der zugesetzten Elemente Yttrium und Zirkonium 0,2 bis 2,5 %.The total content of the elements added is preferably Yttrium and zirconium 0.2 to 2.5%.
In addition to intermetallic connections of third elements Copper and / or zinc can also have intermetallic phases can be set without involving the matrix elements. The phase-forming elements are initially in the melt solved. The actual phases are formed from the added ones Elements among themselves, due to their higher educational enthalpies compared to corresponding phases with Copper and / or zinc. As a result of the high educational enthalpies these phases have an extraordinary thermodynamic Stability, which is also generally characterized by its high Expresses melting temperatures. As selection criteria for suitable Third element pairings must therefore be complete Miscibility of both components in the copper-zinc melt, a significantly higher enthalpy of education of those to be employed Compound as of copper and / or zinc the added components and only a slight difference in density between the melt and the intermetallic phase be taken into account.
The total content of these is preferably intermetallic Phase-forming elements 0.5 to 3%.
Elements that are in the solid state in copper and / or zinc solve completely or partially, and their solubility with decreasing Temperature decreases significantly, lead to a suitable Heat treatment to excretions from the supersaturated Mixed crystal. It can be discontinuous excretions at the grain boundaries and / or continuous excretions act in the matrix volume. To improve the cutting properties have grain boundary excretions higher effectiveness. Created by homogeneous nucleation Excretions can, however, by a corresponding Hot and cold forming can be transferred to the grain boundaries.
Bei Raumtemperatur beträgt die Löslichkeit für Titan in der β-Phase etwa 2 %.In the copper-zinc-silver system there is a three-phase equilibrium between α-CuZn, β-CuZn and an Ag-rich mixed crystal below 665 ° C, which separates out of the α and β structure with decreasing temperature. The addition of cobalt leads to the discontinuous precipitation of a Coreichen mixed crystal, which has the approximate composition CoCullZn28 at 672 ° C. Even small additions of magnesium lead to the elimination of the Laves phase Mg (Cu, Zn) 2 . In the copper-zinc-titanium system, the ternary phase Cu 2 TiZn forms at 950 ° C. At room temperature, the solubility for titanium in the beta phase is about 2%.
Vorzugsweise beträgt der Gesamtgehalt der ausscheidungsbildenden Elemente Aluminium, Kobalt, Magnesium, Titan 1 bis 3 % und der Silber-Gehalt 3 bis 5 %.The total content of the precipitants is preferably Elements aluminum, cobalt, magnesium, titanium 1 to 3% and the silver content 3 to 5%.
Nach einer besonderen Ausführungsform der Erfindung beträgt der Gesamtgehalt aller Zusätze maximal 10 %.According to a particular embodiment of the invention the total content of all additives is a maximum of 10%.
The ratio of the copper content to the zinc content is particularly high between 1.4 and 1.7.
Die Erfindung wird anhand der folgenden Ausführungsbeispiele näher erläutert:The invention is illustrated by the following examples explained in more detail:
