Description

  • This invention relates to a pushing tool comprising a slide and a flarer or expander body, used in assembly work according to the preamble of claim 1, for instance of the kind described in User Model Nº U.9203446 by the same applicant.
  • A pushing tool of this kind is composed of a fixed part with a handle and a hollow through which a sliding part moves, operated by a mobile lever or arm, also attached to the fixed part. The sliding part and the fixed part are each provided with mobile and fixed stops, which move towards or away from each other when the mobile lever or arm is operated. The pushing tool according to the present invention is defined in claim 1. Preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.
  • The slide end, opposite to that with the mobile stop, protrudes from the end of the fixed part of the pushing tool when the two mobile and fixed stops approach each other, and it is precisely on this end of the tool, taking advantage of the outward movement of the slide, where the flarer or expander body is located.
  • In order to do this, the body or fixed part includes a supplementary projecting part at its front end, which allows the slide of the pushing tool to pass through, with this supplementary part receiving and securing the flarer or expander.
  • The flarer or expander is a hollow cylindrically-shaped part with an downwardly open end in which the supplementary part attached to the pushing tool is received. This opening allows the flarer to be placed onto the top or upper part of the said supplementary part, in such a way that this supplementary part becomes clasped laterally and frontally inside this said opening.
  • Beside this end opening, the flarer or expander body is provided with a chamber, also open downwards, into which the slide end of the pushing tool can obtain access.
  • In front of this chamber and aligned with it, the flarer has another chamber in which a part is housed, in a controlled manner, with the rear end of this part making contact with the end of the slide and the front or forward end being conical in shape.
  • Between both ends, the diameter of this coincides with that of the chamber in which it is included. In its turn, the rear portion of this part is controlled by means of a washer housed in the chamber, while its forward portion is controlled by means of the same parts that carry out the flaring or expanding operation.
  • The flarer or expander has a forward portion with a conical enlargement provided with an internal cylindrical slot in which the bases of a number of part, for instance three, are received. These three parts jointly form a complete unit, with each covering an angle of 120º.
  • The exterior of these parts is stepped and rounded, together forming a cylindrical shape with a stepped generatrix. The larger diameter portions of this assembly are those which are housed in the cylindrical slot in the forward part of the flarer or expander and whose interiors are controlled both axially and radially and with the appropriate radial play.
  • The interior of these three parts in question is formed with recesses, with these three recesses together forming a conical housing in which the conical projection on the part housed in the internal chamber is received, and the conicity or taper ratio of both corresponding with each other.
  • In order to propitiate the operation of the flarer or expander, its rear end is situated over the projecting part on the fixed part of the pushing tool in such a way that it becomes secured. In its turn, the projection on the slide is received in the open chamber at the rear portion of the part housed in the chamber.
  • In the rest position, the part housed in the intermediate or middle chamber is drawn back towards the pushing tool and, by operating the lever of the pushing tool, the slide acts gradually on the said part, obliging its conical portion to become housed in the conical recess and, later, to open the three sections or segments of the forward part.
  • Given that the exteriors of these three parts are stepped, that can receive different types of tube diameters, with which the action of the slide will cause the expansion or flaring of the tube or pipe in question.
  • All the peculiarities and details of the invention will be better appreciated by referring to the attached sheet of drawings, on which the following are represented:
  • Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pushing tool that corresponds to the technique covered in User Model U.9203446.
  • Figure 2 is an outer view of the flarer or expander device.
  • Figure 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the flarer or expander connected to the pushing tool in the rest position.
  • Figure 4 is an elevation of the same in the operating position.
  • Looking now at Fig. 1, it can be seen that the pushing tool (1) is made up of the fixed part (6), equipped with a handle (2) and an upper stop, which is not numbered. The tool has a slide (4) with a stop, not numbered, and is provided with teeth (5), which, on being operated by an internal mechanism by pulling on the lever (3), causes the movement of said slide.
  • In the position indicated in Fig. 1, on operating the lever (3) by pulling it downwards and backwards, the end (8) of the slide protrudes from the tool and on releasing, the lever, the end of the slide moves back. The slide in question is equipped with the projection (7) around its outward part and onto which the flarer or expander is fitted.
  • This flarer or expander (9), as seen in Fig. 2, is a cylindrical part with a rear portion (10) open downwards (11) in order to receive the projection (7), as well as another intermediate portion and a forward portion (12) where the tube or pipe to be worked is received.
  • Referring now to Fig. 3, we can appreciate the interior of the flarer or expander, with the free end of the slide housed in the open chamber (13) and close to the rear end (14) of the central part, also housed in the central chamber. The downwardly open chamber (13), together with the opening (11) in the flarer or expander, allow both the projection (7) and the slide end (8) to enter perfectly.
  • The movement of the central part is limited by the washer shown, not numbered, and it moves inside the chamber on its central cylindrical section (15). The forward or front end (16) is conical and becomes inserted into the conical interior (17) of the forward stepped parts (12).
  • The larger base element (19) of these parts (12) is received in the forward housing (18), and it is possible to appreciate the appropriate radial movement for when the parts (12) are opened due to the action of the conical projection (16).
  • When the lever (3) of the tool is operated, once that the part (12) has been inserted into the tube or pipe, the position illustrated in Fig. 4 is reached, according to which the slide end (8) moves the central part, in such a way that it becomes housed in and puts pressure on the conical recess (17) in the parts (12), causing them to open, as shown. It can also be seen here that the larger base element (19) of the parts (12) has occupied part of the housing (18).
  • It is important to emphasize, once having described the nature and advantages of this invention, its non-restrictive character, inasmuch as changes in the shape, materials or dimensions of its constituent parts will remain within the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
