Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and a device for changing a product in an installation for spraying coating products. It considerably limits the loss of paint during color changes.
- a sensor for example an optical or capacitive sensor to detect the arrival of paint at the level of the purge.
- the sensor emits a signal which is interpreted to close the purge valve: this eliminates errors due to the variations set out above.
- the response times of these sensors and of the valve control systems are of the order of 500 ms. Between the time the sensor detects the front of new product and the closing of the purge valve, approximately 30 cc of paint has flowed into the purge. The invention makes it possible to reduce this wasted amount.
- It relates to a product change process in a coating product spraying installation comprising a supply duct for a projector with said product and a controlled purge bypass, near one end of said duct, of the type comprising a phase injecting air and solvent into said conduit followed by a phase of filling said conduit with a new product until the latter reaches said bypass, characterized in that it consists in locally reducing the cross-section d flow to said bypass at a determined time after the end of the air and solvent injection phase and before the end of the filling phase.
- the flow section of the duct or the purge bypass is reduced during the filling phase so that, during the time interval between the arrival of the front of new product in the bypass purge and closing the purge valve, the amount of product discharged into the purge is limited to the volume passing through the reduced section of the conduit or the bypass during this time interval.
- the invention also relates to a product change device in a coating product spraying installation comprising a supply duct for a projector, said duct being connected to a purge branch, characterized in that it comprises means temporarily reducing the flow section of said conduit or said purge bypass.
- These means for temporarily reducing the flow section may consist of two parallel branches of different diameters which are crossed by the cleaning liquid and the new product respectively during the cleaning and filling phases. It can also be an element of adjustable diameter such as a pressure regulator, a restrictor or diaphragm or a controlled valve in which a leak is provided between the needle and the seat.
- a product detector is located in or near the purge bypass and controls the means for restricting the flow section.
- the invention is particularly suitable for the case of an installation comprising a mobile assembly comprising a projector and an on-board tank on the one hand and a cleaning-filling station on the other hand.
- the return of coating product to the cleaning-filling station after it has filled the conduits of the mobile assembly no longer involves significant losses of coating product.

- a valve 4 called the head valve, allows the projector 3 to be supplied or not with the coating product present in the duct 2.
- a bypass 5 in which a valve 6, called the purge valve, is provided, is connected to a purge 7.
- a sensor 10 for example a capacitive sensor, connected to a control system for the head and purge valves can be provided to detect the arrival of a liquid front in the bypass 5.
- the device of FIG. 2 comprises certain elements identical to that of FIG. 1, the references of which bear the same numbers increased by 50.
- the purge bypass 55 is divided into two branches 55 a and 55 b , respectively interruptible by virtue of with two purge valves 56 and 59.
- the branch 55 b also includes a calibrated or restricting element 58 of smaller diameter than the rest of the branch 55.
- the valve 56 is open and the remains of coating product, the air and the solvent are discharged into the drain 57.
- the valve 56 is closed and the valve 59 is open so that the air and the remnants of solvent pushed by the product front are evacuated towards the purge 57 through the branch 55b, c that is to say through the restrictor 58.
- the pressure drops created by the restrictor 58 are not detrimental to the flow towards the purge during the filling phase because the air and the solvent have a low viscosity, or even very low, compared to the coating product.
- the front of the new coating product is detected by the sensor 60 which then controls the closing of the valve 59.
- the response time of the sensor 60, of the control system not shown and of the valve 59 is relatively long, for example of the order of 500 ms, the quantity of product exceeding the valve 59 and pouring into the drain during this response time is limited by the small diameter of the restrictor 58.
- tests have been carried out. allowed to limit to 2 cc, that is to say fifteen times less than the amount usually lost in this type of device.

- the sensor 110 can indifferently be housed in station 113 or in mobile unit 111.
- the operation is as follows: when the projection phase is complete, the assembly 111 approaches the station 113; the head valve 104 is closed, the purge valves 104 ′, 106 and 109 are open and the piston of the reservoir 112 is brought to the end of its travel in order to pour into the purge 107 the remains of paint present in the reservoir.
- the valve 104 is then opened, then the air and the cleaning solvent are injected into the conduit 102 and pass through the valve 104 into the tank 112 which they clean. They then cross the valve 104 ′ and return to the station 113 via the purge bypass 105. They are discharged into the purge 107.
- the valve 106 is closed at a chosen time.
- a sensor 110 detects the return of the front of new product in station 113 and controls the closing of valve 109.
- the quantity of product poured into the drain during the system response time is limited by the diameter of the restrictor 108.
- FIG. 4 shows a practical embodiment of the valve 106 incorporating the restrictor 108. It is a pneumatic valve whose needle 106 a is adapted to rest in a sealed manner on a seat 106 b in the closed position. A leak was created by a groove 106 c obtained by milling the seat 106 b or by any other suitable means.
- the restrictor 108 is here the residual leakage from the valve 106. This valve can also be used with devices of the type described in FIG. 2.
- the device of FIG. 5 comprises certain elements identical to that of FIG. 2, the references of which bear the same numbers increased by 100.
- the purge bypass comprises a valve 156 and a pressure regulator 158 connected in series.
- the cleaning phase is identical to that studied with reference to FIG. 2.
- the valve 156 remains open and the control pressure of the regulator 158 is increased so as its cross-section is reduced, which limits the amount of paint spilled in the purge during the system response time.
- the invention has been presented in the case where the purge bypass has a variable section but it also relates to the case where the supply duct has a variable section near the upstream end of the purge bypass in the case of variants of Figures 2 and 5.
- the supply duct 2 is cleaned and filled in several sections in order to save time during product changes. Intermediate purges are then planned.
- the invention applies by equipping each purge according to the invention.
- the invention also has the advantage of being able to be incorporated inexpensively into existing installations since it essentially suffices to modify in accordance with its principle the purge bypass.
- the invention is applicable independently of the presence of a sensor detecting the front of new product in the purge bypass.
- it is possible to control the valves only with time delays defined by the control system.
- the device is less precise but the use of the invention is even more advantageous because the duration of flow of the new product in the purge is, for safety reasons, necessarily longer than in the case where a sensor is provided.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and a device for changing a product in an installation for spraying coating products. It considerably limits the loss of paint during color changes.
In the coating product change devices of the prior art, when it is necessary to change the product, air and solvent trains are injected into or downstream from a coating product change block or an emulsion of air and solvent in the duct connecting this block to a projector. The mixture resulting from this cleaning is poured into a purge, that is to say, most often a reprocessing system. Then comes a second phase of filling this duct with the new coating product to be used, during which the evacuation of the remains of the air / solvent mixture takes place and the filling of the duct to the sprayer with the new product. This phase lasts approximately 8 to 10 seconds. The purge valve which connects the connection conduit between the product change block and the projector on the one hand and the purge bypass on the other hand is then closed. The head valve which is located at the base of the projector is then opened for a short time, for example 500 ms, to initiate the discharge of new product by the projector. the projector is then ready to operate.
- If it is too short, i.e. if it is finished before the front of new product in the pipe has reached the purge valve, air and solvent remain in the pipe and this mixture is sprayed at the start of sprayer operation, which affects the quality of the coating.
- If it is too long, a quantity of new product unnecessarily flows into the drain when the duct is already full. In practice, we choose this last solution to avoid any danger of bad spraying due to lack of paint. In addition, the duration of this phase is difficult to determine because it depends on the product supply pressure, which varies from one supply circuit to another, that is to say a product of coating to another, and its viscosity which may itself depend on the ambient temperature.
To overcome these defects, it has been envisaged to introduce, near the purge valve, a sensor, for example an optical or capacitive sensor to detect the arrival of paint at the level of the purge. The sensor emits a signal which is interpreted to close the purge valve: this eliminates errors due to the variations set out above. However, the response times of these sensors and of the valve control systems are of the order of 500 ms. Between the time the sensor detects the front of new product and the closing of the purge valve, approximately 30 cc of paint has flowed into the purge. The invention makes it possible to reduce this wasted amount.
It relates to a product change process in a coating product spraying installation comprising a supply duct for a projector with said product and a controlled purge bypass, near one end of said duct, of the type comprising a phase injecting air and solvent into said conduit followed by a phase of filling said conduit with a new product until the latter reaches said bypass, characterized in that it consists in locally reducing the cross-section d flow to said bypass at a determined time after the end of the air and solvent injection phase and before the end of the filling phase.
Thanks to the invention, the flow section of the duct or the purge bypass is reduced during the filling phase so that, during the time interval between the arrival of the front of new product in the bypass purge and closing the purge valve, the amount of product discharged into the purge is limited to the volume passing through the reduced section of the conduit or the bypass during this time interval.
The invention also relates to a product change device in a coating product spraying installation comprising a supply duct for a projector, said duct being connected to a purge branch, characterized in that it comprises means temporarily reducing the flow section of said conduit or said purge bypass.
These means for temporarily reducing the flow section may consist of two parallel branches of different diameters which are crossed by the cleaning liquid and the new product respectively during the cleaning and filling phases. It can also be an element of adjustable diameter such as a pressure regulator, a restrictor or diaphragm or a controlled valve in which a leak is provided between the needle and the seat.
According to an advantageous variant of the invention, a product detector is located in or near the purge bypass and controls the means for restricting the flow section.
Finally, the invention is particularly suitable for the case of an installation comprising a mobile assembly comprising a projector and an on-board tank on the one hand and a cleaning-filling station on the other hand. The return of coating product to the cleaning-filling station after it has filled the conduits of the mobile assembly no longer involves significant losses of coating product.
- la figure 1 est un schéma de principe d'un dispositif d'alimentation d'une installation de projection de produit de revêtement selon l'art antérieur;
- la figure 2 est un schéma de principe d'un dispositif d'alimentation d'une installation de projection de produit de revêtement selon l'invention;
- la figure 3 est un schéma, similaire à celui de la figure 2, d'une première variante de l'invention;
- Figure 1 is a block diagram of a supply device for a coating product spraying installation according to the prior art;
- Figure 2 is a block diagram of a supply device for a coating product spraying installation according to the invention;
- Figure 3 is a diagram, similar to that of Figure 2, of a first variant of the invention;
- Figure 4 is a diagram of a control valve as used in the device of Figure 3; and
- Figure 5 is a diagram, similar to that of Figure 2, of a second variant of the invention.
The device of FIG. 1 comprises a block for changing the
The operation is that described above in relation to the prior art.
La branche 55b inclut en outre un élément calibré ou restricteur 58 de plus petit diamètre que le reste de la dérivation 55.The device of FIG. 2 comprises certain elements identical to that of FIG. 1, the references of which bear the same numbers increased by 50. In this device, the
The operation is as follows: during the air and solvent injection phase, the
The device of FIG. 3 comprises certain elements identical to that of FIG. 2, the references of which bear the same numbers increased by 50. The
The operation is as follows: when the projection phase is complete, the
La quantité de produit déversée dans la purge pendant le temps de réponse du système est limitée par le diamètre du restricteur 108.The quantity of product poured into the drain during the system response time is limited by the diameter of the
The device of FIG. 5 comprises certain elements identical to that of FIG. 2, the references of which bear the same numbers increased by 100. The purge bypass comprises a
The operation is as follows: the cleaning phase is identical to that studied with reference to FIG. 2. When filling the
The invention has been presented in the case where the purge bypass has a variable section but it also relates to the case where the supply duct has a variable section near the upstream end of the purge bypass in the case of variants of Figures 2 and 5.
In certain installations, the
Finally, the invention is applicable independently of the presence of a sensor detecting the front of new product in the purge bypass. In fact, it is possible to control the valves only with time delays defined by the control system. The device is less precise but the use of the invention is even more advantageous because the duration of flow of the new product in the purge is, for safety reasons, necessarily longer than in the case where a sensor is provided.
