Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of a composition for the enamelling of metallic articles and a method of enamelling a metallic article.
- the first obvious and irremediable condition is that the alloy melting point is not too close the point of vitrification of the enamel and, way, greater than this.
- the second condition is that the system of transformation of metal into semi-finished part or definitive does not bring heterogeneity to it.
- the only metal processing system into semi-finished or final piece giving, to the day of today, good results is molding by gravity or process ⁇ shell ⁇ .
- the third cause of the impossibility of enameling metal parts based on aluminum alloy or coated with aluminum alloy is that some constituent elements of the alloy are harmful to enameling because they harm the adhesion of the enamel to the alloy.
- magnesium-enriched layer is very sensitive to corrosion, oxidation takes place by an increase in volume producing forces sufficient internals at the interface to take off enamel and cause defects similar to phenomena of "nail strokes", known in the field of steel enameling.
- An object of the present invention is therefore to propose the use of a composition intended for enamelling metal articles which overcomes disadvantages or limitations of the state of the art.
- the subject of the present invention is to suggest the use of a composition intended to enamel metallic surfaces of any type, and in particular those known not to be enamelled.
- Another object of the present invention is to suggest an enamelling process for an item metallic with a human-recognized surface of the trade as not being enamelled.
- the invention proposes the use for enameling without chromating treatment prior, articles in aluminum alloy or coated steel of aluminum alloy, of a composition made up by a lead-free enamel frit slip and comprising at least one iron oxide.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to make enamelled alloys not recognized as such by the skilled person.
- compositions intended for enamelling metal articles contain lead-free enamel frit slip most often vanadic.
- the composition comprises at least one iron oxide chosen from the group consisting of FeO, Fe 3 O 4 , FE 2 O 3 .
- the dissolution power of the enamel chosen with respect to the different oxides metal can change the above order.
- vitrification temperature as well as its duration, have an influence on the grip since favoring or not the migration of the elements and their oxidation.
- the proportion by weight of iron oxide in the composition in accordance with the invention must be greater than or equal to 1% enamel with an optimum that can vary from 5 to 10% depending on the chosen enamel.
- GL 4348 enamels (containing cadmium) and GL 4352 (without cadmium), both marketed by FERRO, "low enamel” temperature "vitrifying from 480 ° C with a optimum at 520 ° C, can be applied to alloys with a high magnesium content of type 5754 with 1% iron oxide regardless of the degree of oxidation of the oxide and this with a good result in terms of mechanical adhesion.
- an enameling composition adhering to a non-enamelable alloy FERRO GL 4316 enamel (alkaline and alkaline earth silico alumino vanadate) 100 Boric acid 4 Soda metasilicate 1 Potash 1 Iron oxide Bayferrox 303 T 10 Water 56 Fineness refusal 0.2 at 16900 BAYER or 2% of enamel particles above 38 micrometers Application density 1.78 Cooking 560 ° C 5 minutes of level.
- the presence of some mineral pigments in the enameling composition affects adhesion on alloys recognized as not enamelled; this is the case, for example, of blues cobalt or cobalt-chrome or chrome greens.
- the invention solves this problem and makes it possible to enamel these alloys with enamel slips pigmented in blue or green, or with other pigments unfavorable to the adhesion of enamel, with an undercoat (of about 10 microns) of a lead-free enamel slip containing a certain proportion of iron oxide pigments, the choice of oxide being the best compromise between the adhesion of the enamel and the color of the overcoat.
- composition according to the present invention may not only enamelling metal articles, in aluminum coated aluminum, or coated steel of aluminum or aluminum alloy, known to be enamelled, but also metallic articles in aluminum alloy or coated with aluminum alloy known to be non-glazable.
- the invention also relates to a method of enamelling a metallic article.
- the following are added to the composition, at the time of grinding, at least one oxide of iron and then we apply the liquid and liquid enamel slip vitrification by firing the enamel applied to the article.
