Abstract

The circuit board (7) carries retaining blocks (11) with connection tags (16) protruding for attachment of terminal blocks (10). The retaining blocks are mfd. of plastic with grooves and openings for the symmetrically arranged teeth of tongues on which the tags are formed, and with lateral hooks for engagement in holes (19) in the board. During assembly the retaining blocks and tags are set up with other components on the board, and wave-soldered to the printed tracks before the terminal blocks are simply pushed on to the tags. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a method is known from DE-GM-79 22 314, in which connection pins held in conductor connection housings are soldered to the printed circuit board and terminal blocks are then snapped onto the conductor connection housing. The production is complex, difficult to automate, forces acting on the connected conductors are fully transferred to the soldered connections, and the terminal blocks are located on one side of the circuit board, so that it cannot be built in a particularly space-saving and compact manner.

From FR-A-2 532 811 it is known to solder terminal blocks with connecting pins to the printed circuit board and to additionally secure the terminal blocks when installed in a housing by means of a housing part. However, this solution has the same disadvantages as that according to DE-GM-79 22 314.

The aim of the present invention is to provide a simplified, easily automatable manufacturing process which also leads to good use of space or compact design. This goal is achieved according to claims 1 and 5, respectively. Preferably, the terminal blocks are loosely pushed laterally parallel to the plane of the circuit board against its edge and then secured during installation in the housing. The terminal blocks are preferably asymmetrical to the circuit board and are on one side approximately corresponding to the height of the solder joints and on the other hand approximately according to the height of the components above the circuit board, which enables optimal use of space or compact, flat design.

The housing of the device shown has a shell-like lower part 1 with a bottom and side walls, with which a cover 2 can be connected by means of resilient hooks 3. An end cover 4 can be snapped onto the end wall 5 and there partially cover openings 6 of this end wall. A circuit board 7 is inserted into the housing of the device, which is shown schematically in the drawing without conductor tracks but with some switching elements arranged thereon (FIG. 3). The conductor tracks are located on the upper side of the printed circuit board 7 visible in FIG. 1. It is provided with cutouts 8 on the edge, which allow the hooks 3 to pass through. 1 shows coupling elements 9 which can be connected to the circuit board 7 with adjustable switching elements, for example potentiometers, and which can be actuated by openings in the front cover 4. The device points in remaining terminal blocks 10, which can be electrically connected to the circuit board 7 in a manner to be described and secured in the housing. Terminal lugs arranged in holding blocks for connecting the printed circuit board 7 to the terminal blocks 10 lie on the underside of the printed circuit board in FIG. 1 and are not visible, but are visible in FIG. 3, and their details are shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. These holding blocks 11 made of plastic have grooves 12 and openings 13, into which symmetrically arranged toothed holding tabs 14 with soldering tabs 15 of corrugated connecting tabs 16 projecting from the holding block 11 on both sides are inserted. The connecting pieces 17 between the holding tabs 14 and the connecting lugs 16 are designed such that the three connecting lugs 16 lie in a common plane. As shown in FIG. 3, this level is perpendicular to the plane of the printed circuit board 7 when the connecting lugs 16 are mounted. The holding blocks 11 are provided with lateral hooks 18 which pass through holes 19 in the printed circuit board 7 and can thus secure the holding blocks 11 on the printed circuit board. This fuse serves a purpose to be explained when installing the device.

Fig. 2 zeigt einen Klemmenblock 10 im Längsschnitt. Each terminal block 10 has three brackets for a box terminal 20, which can be moved by means of a screw 21. In the window 22 of each box terminal, a connection lug 16 projects on the one hand and the stripped end 23 of a connection conductor 24 on the other. By means of the screw 21, the box clamp 20 can be shifted upward from the position shown, so that the wire 23 is then firmly clamped against the connecting lug 16, which creates a reliable electrical and mechanical connection of these parts. The terminal block has a collar 26 (FIGS. 2 and 3) which receives the central connecting lug 16 and which in FIG assembled state (Fig. 3, left) engages in a groove 27 of the holding block 11 and thus contributes to the extension of the creepage distances between the three connecting lugs. The terminal blocks are provided on one side with a hook 28 which, when the device is mounted, engages behind a rib 29 of the housing while the other side of the terminal block engages in a holding pocket 30 in the housing wall. The terminal block is thus secured on all sides in the housing when the cover 2 is placed on. Pairs of guide tabs 32 serve for further securing and guiding when the terminal block is plugged onto the connecting tabs 16 or against the printed circuit board (7).

As mentioned at the outset, the concept according to the invention permits particularly efficient installation of the device. The terminal blocks and the holding blocks 11 equipped with terminal lugs 16 are prepared according to FIGS. 2, 4 and 5. Then the circuit board 7 is fitted with components in the usual way, the two holding blocks 11 with terminal lugs 16 being placed on the circuit board like the other components and secured on the circuit board by means of the hooks 18. One of the solder lugs 15 reaches through prepared holes 31 in the printed circuit board. The circuit board is then soldered in the wave pool, the soldering lugs 15 of the connection lugs 16 being soldered to conductor tracks, like the other components of the circuit board.

The two terminal blocks 10 are now loosely pushed onto the connecting lugs 16, as shown on the left in FIG. 3, the collar 26, with its passage widening outwards, determining the position of the terminal block when plugged on and thus facilitating assembly.

If the two terminal blocks 10 are loosely attached to the circuit board in this way, they are inserted together with the latter into the lower part 1 of the housing, the terminal blocks now also being definitely secured in their position by the housing. Then, if necessary, the coupling elements 9 are inserted and the front cover 4 is put on, and finally the cover 2 is put on, with which the device is fully assembled. This assembly is particularly suitable for automation.

Before the cover is put on, however, a final test can be carried out to determine the dielectric strength and function of the device, namely by inserting the circuit board with the solder joints on top into the lower housing part 1 and thus all solder joints are accessible. The test for voltage capability can be carried out via the connection terminals or the connection lugs.

An embodiment variant is shown schematically in FIGS. 6 and 7. The printed circuit board 7 is in this case equipped with a holding block 11 ', the connecting lugs 16' of which lie in a common plane which is parallel to the plane of the printed circuit board. A suitably designed terminal block 10 'can be plugged onto the connection lugs and connected to the same. In Fig. 7 it is indicated that more than three connection lugs can be provided. Of course, fewer connection lugs can be provided, or only one terminal block and a set of connection lugs could be provided.

28a für eine etwas andere Halterung im Gehäuse versehen.FIG. 8 shows a variant 10 'of the terminal block, the corresponding parts being identified in the same way as in FIG. 2. The main difference is that each box terminal 20 has a U-shaped bracket 25 is assigned, which encompasses the lower part of the box clamp. In the open position shown, the lower leg of the bracket 25 is held between the box clamp and a bottom 20a, so that the upper leg of the bracket lies approximately in the middle of the window 22. Stripped wires 23a and 23b of different diameters can now be inserted above and below this leg and securely clamped by tightening the clamp. The terminal block is also provided with two hooks 28 and 28a for a slightly different holder in the housing.

Since the holding blocks 11 have solder tabs 15 at the top and bottom, they could be soldered to two printed circuit boards 7 one above the other. The solder tabs can also be extrusion-coated with the plastic of the holding blocks, with which a better dielectric strength can be achieved.
