Definitions
- the invention relates to an electrode for electrolytic cells, in particular for mercury-chlor-alkali electrolytic cells with current supply via rods or current supply bolts and current distributors in the form of upright standing, spaced apart flat profiles, which stand upright on their lower edge with activated electrode parts arranged perpendicular to them Flat profiles are connected to vertical outer sides by welding, the activated electrode parts consisting of a larger number of individual elements than the current distributors, and the activated electrode parts being arranged with a gap of at least 2 mm to one another.
- an electrode for mercury-chlor-alkali electrolysis cells with current supply via rods or current supply bolts which has spaced-apart flat profiles, which is connected at their lower edge to perpendicularly arranged activated electrode parts, the activated ones Electrode parts consist of a larger number of individual elements than the current parts and the individual elements, seen in cross section, have a tapering lower edge which is essentially made in the form of a gas;
- the removal of the gas bubbles produced during electrolysis proves to be problematic in the case of such circular or semicircular configurations, since on the one hand they hinder the ion exchange in the electrolytic gap between the semicircular profiles and the mercury cathode, and on the other hand they have no rapid possibility of removal, so that in the lower area of the profile anode a kind of gas bubble cushion must be expected; furthermore, the height of the activation coating on the electrodes is comparatively high, so that the areas containing precious metals are relatively far away from the electrode gap Substances are provided, but
- the object of the invention is to design the electrodes or anodes for the chlor-alkali electrolysis cell in such a way that the gas removal is promoted from the area of the electrode gap and an interface between the anode and electrolyte in the area of the electrode gap which is as gas-free as possible is available; in addition, high energy utilization in electrolysis is to be achieved by means of low electrode voltage.
- the triangle or wedge-shaped element of the lower edge encloses an angle in the range from 30 to 90 °, it being possible for the electrolytic reaction to be removed particularly rapidly in the range of approximately 60 °. Further advantageous refinements are specified in the subclaims.
- the thickness of the activated electrode parts is preferably in the range from 1.5 to 2.5 mm.
- FIG. 1a shows an electrode with electrode elements which are rectangular in the upper part of their cross section and tapered in the lower part.
- FIG. 1b shows an electrode, the upper part of the cross section of which tapers upwards, while the lower part corresponds to that of FIG. 1a.
- FIG. 2 shows an electrode with electrode elements according to FIG. 1a, the two upper current conductor levels being recognizable.
- FIG. 1 a shows schematically the use of the electrodes 1, 2 according to the invention with a base angle alpha in the region of the lower edge 3 of 60 °, with the partial triangle 4 extending from the lower edge 3 isoscelesly and electrolytically by means of the applied electrocatalytic layer 5 Implementation and a rapid removal of any gas bubbles that may occur by means of a chimney effect that arises in the gap 6 between two adjacent electrodes 1, 2.
- the gas bubbles are symbolically provided with reference number 7 here.
- the electrode elements 1 and 2 are arranged in a gap 6 of at least 2 mm from one another in order to allow an upward flow to arise due to a large number of small gas bubbles according to the principle of the mammoth pump, which flow for rapid gas removal from the critical electrode gap 6 ensures and thus enables a relatively high efficiency of the electrolytic cell.
- the electrodes 1, 2 are each connected to the current distributors 17 of the second level, which are shown here only broken for the sake of a better overview.
- Figure 2 shows the electrode according to the invention with its three current collector planes, of which the two upper planes are formed from rectangular flat profiles 17, 18, which stand upright one above the other and are connected to one another perpendicularly in such a way that there is no obstruction of the gas outflow from the area of the electrode gap 6; to the lower edges of the current distributors 17 of the second level, the electrode elements 1, 2 are fixed by welding at an angle of 90 ° in such a way that the gas extraction of the gas bubbles produced is not hindered.
- the electrode structure of the two upper levels and the power supply line reference is made to US Pat. No. 4,364,811.

Abstract
