Description

The present invention relates to an improvement to sanitary cabins with variable volume.

We know, in particular from patent FR-A-2 623 387, sanitary cabins with variable geometry in the sense that they are alternately extendable and foldable so as to offer a sanitary space therefore taking maximum amplitude during its periods of use and, conversely, reduced congestion outside these periods. The above-mentioned patent describes for this purpose a sanitary block composed of two homologous parts, the second sliding relative to the first by reciprocal fitting; this device, which undeniably has certain advantages compared to embodiments with a fixed volume, nevertheless has practical drawbacks which remove much of its advantage from it. In particular, the mobile part of the toilet block has no bottom; therefore, there is no watertightness and, as nothing is provided to isolate the shower tray during its use, flooding is very troublesome for the user. On the other hand, the exclusive arrangement of the shower tray on the fixed side of the block makes the useful area quite narrow, which ultimately goes against the desired goal.

The present invention seeks to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a sanitary cabin comprising at least one parallelepipedal movable part sliding in a fixed part, also parallelipipedic, by reciprocal fitting of their lateral and upper faces, characterized in that the movable part, or respectively the fixed part is provided with an articulated bottom which, when the cabin is deployed, comes to form a continuous floor with the bottom of at least the fixed part, or respectively the mobile part.

According to an additional characteristic of the invention, the bottom of the movable part or the bottom of the fixed part comprises a peripheral flap ensuring sealing, advantageously forming a stop limiting the spacing of the two parts, mobile and fixed, one from the other.

In another embodiment, the two fixed and mobile parts of the sanitary cabin are interconnected by a pull-out mobile box, open on its vertical front and rear faces in communication with said fixed and mobile parts, said box being provided with a watertight platform under which is normally arranged at least one support leg resting on the ground by means of a sliding pad or a caster, so that when the sanitary cabin is deployed, said platform comes to form a continuous floor with the respective bottoms of the fixed and movable parts.

The interior arrangement of the sanitary cabin thus formed can be carried out in various ways.

In a first embodiment, a half-shower tray is arranged in the bottom of the fixed part, or respectively of the mobile part, with a grid covering the bowl of said half-tray on the top, so as to form, with the bottom of the movable part, or respectively of the fixed part, or the platform of the intermediate nesting box, a complete shower tray with waterproof floor.

According to an additional characteristic, the grid covering the half-shower tray of the fixed part, or respectively of the mobile part, of the sanitary cabin is articulated, by a set of rods with two parallel horizontal axes, on the front vertical wall of the fixed part, or respectively of the mobile part, said set of rods acting:
  • in a folding phase of the cabin, so as to allow the lifting of said grid parallel to itself to provide a passage to the platform of the pull-out box or to the bottom of the movable part, respectively of the fixed part, and ,
  • during a cabin deployment phase, so as to allow the folding of said grid at the same level as that of the platform of said box or the bottom of the movable part, respectively of the fixed part.

In another embodiment of a sanitary cabin comprising an intermediate nesting box, a half shower tray, comprising a bowl and a grid, is arranged in the bottom of the movable part and a similar half shower tray is arranged in the bottom of the fixed part, which allows, after deployment, to obtain a large shower tray occupying almost all of the floor available at the bottom of the cabin.

In the latter case, the two grids can be lifted around a set of rods provided for this purpose on the vertical wall blind respectively of the fixed and movable parts corresponding thereto, so as to leave a passage to the intermediate platform of the box when the cabin is folded.

In another alternative embodiment, each grid is articulated around a single horizontal axis on the blind vertical wall of the mobile part or, respectively, fixed, and has a depth greater than the depth of said fixed and mobile parts; in this way, in the folding phase of the cabin, the two grids come into abutment against each other by their respective frontal edges, each grid then lifting around its respective axis of articulation by forming a dihedral the interior of said folded cabin.

Advantageously, the two grids can be of identical depths, at least equal to half the length of the unfolded sanitary cabin; thus, the entire cabin floor is covered by a grid at the time of use.

In the latter case, it may also be advantageous to connect the front edges of said grids by a hinge, which facilitates their respective articulation movement, or else to slide the two grids superimposed on each other.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of several alternative embodiments of sanitary cabins with variable geometry, given by way of nonlimiting examples with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a view in vertical and median section of a sanitary cabin with two parts, fixed and movable, the fixed part comprising a half shower tray, in the folded position,
  • FIG. 2 is a view similar to that of the previous figure, the sanitary cabin being in the deployed position,
  • FIG. 3 is a view in vertical and median section of a sanitary cabin with two parts, fixed and mobile, and an intermediate part or nesting box, also mobile, in the folded position,
  • FIG. 4 is a view similar to that of the previous figure, the sanitary cabin being in the deployed position,
  • FIG. 5 is a view in vertical and median section of an alternative embodiment of the grids fitted to the sanitary cabin shown in FIGS. 3 and 4,
  • FIGS. 6 and 7 relate to yet another embodiment of a sanitary cabin with three elements, internally supplemented with a flexible gusseted covering, or liner, extendable improving the tightness and the finish of said cabin,
  • FIG. 8 is a front view of an embodiment of the access door to the cabin,
  • FIGS. 9 and 10 are views in horizontal section of the access door, along the section plane AA traced in FIG. 8,
  • Figures 11 and 12 are views in horizontal section of the access door, showing an alternative embodiment of the latter.

All the sanitary cabins represented on the appended figures include at least one fixed part 1 and at least one movable part 2, sliding in translation on the front of said fixed part 1 by reciprocal fitting of their lateral and upper faces.

In the variant shown in Figures 1 and 2, the movable part 2 has a frame 3 mounted on casters 4 and supporting a horizontal shower tray 5, which is constituted by a bowl 6 covered by a grid 7 articulated horizontally on the wall vertical of said movable part 2 by means of a set of links 8 with two parallel horizontal axes whose function will be better explained below. The bowl 6 has in its lower part a drain 9 for waste water which is connected, by a flexible pipe, to a discharge manifold not shown in the figures so as not to affect the clarity of the drawings.

La partie fixe 1 de la cabine sanitaire comporte pour sa part un fond 10 horizontal, surélevé par rapport au sol, de manière à se situer au niveau du bord supérieur du bac à douche 5 équipant la partie mobile 2 lorsque la cabine est déployée (figure 2).The fixed part 1 of the sanitary cabin has for its part a horizontal bottom 10, raised relative to the ground, so as to be located at the upper edge of the shower tray 5 fitted to the mobile part 2 when the cabin is deployed (FIG. 2).

Conversely, when the cabin is folded, the bowl 6 of the shower tray 5 slides under the raised bottom 10 of the fixed part 1, while the grid 7 lifts around all the rods 8 and slides over said bottom 10. In its deployed position, the grid 7 can again be lowered to the same level as the raised bottom 10 so as to form a single floor in the bottom of the cabin.

According to the invention, the sealing of said floor is ensured by a peripheral flap 11, arranged along the front edge of the raised bottom 10 and the side walls of the fixed part 1 to cooperate with the rear edge and the side walls of the bowl. 6 of shower tray 5; this flap 11 further forms a stop making it possible to limit the spacing of the fixed 1 and mobile 2 parts from one another.

In the variant of Figures 3 and 4, a intermediate element, or trundle box 12, is slidably mounted between the fixed 1 and mobile 2 parts of the sanitary cabin. To this end, this nesting box 12 is open on its front and rear vertical faces to communicate with the open faces of the fixed 1 and movable 2 parts. This box 12 is moreover provided with a sealed platform 13, forming a floor intermediate when the sanitary cabin is deployed; under this platform 13, a number of support legs 14 resting at ground level by a system of rollers 15 which are quite conventional have normally been arranged, the number and sizing of the support legs 14 and the rollers 15 of course depending on the laden weight of the sanitary cabin.

In the variant described with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, we have chosen to equip each of the fixed 1 and mobile 2 parts of the sanitary cabin with a shower tray 5, provided with a bowl 6 and a grid 7 articulated by a set of links 8 on the vertical wall corresponding to it.

According to the invention, when the cabin is folded, the platform 13 of the trundle box 12 is inserted, both at its front and at its rear, under said grids 7 which are raised in the manner already described with reference to the figures 1 and 2.

In addition, flaps 11 seal the two front and rear ends of the platform 13 and advantageously form stops limiting the spacing of the three constituent parts (1, 2, 12) of the sanitary cabin between them.

In the variant shown in FIG. 5, the sanitary cabin is of the intermediate nesting box type 12 with an improvement relating to the retraction system of the grids 7 covering the bowls 6 of the shower trays 5 of the mobile 2 and fixed 1 parts of said cabin. Thus, the dimensions of the grids 7 are such that in the position of maximum deployment of the cabin, the floor of the latter is completely covered by the juxtaposition of said grids 7 folded horizontally over the top of the bowls 6 and of the platform 13. In this variant, the grids 7 are moreover articulated, around a single horizontal axis 15, around the vertical wall blind part 1, 2 of the cabin they equip; at the time of the folding of said cabin, the respective frontal fields of said grids 7 then come into abutment against each other causing their lifting around their respective axis of articulation 15, said grids 7 thus forming a dihedral to the interior of the folded cabin. In order to facilitate this lifting movement of the grids 7 and to make it more reliable, it is also advantageous to provide a hinge connecting the front fields of said grids 7.

The variant shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 consists of an improvement on the variants of FIGS. 1 to 4. In this latter variant, the mobile 2 and fixed 1 parts, and possibly the intermediate nesting box 12, are provided with a flexible bellows covering 16, commonly known as a liner, which improves the tightness and finish of the cabin. The fixing of the covering 16 is conventional, conventional sealing devices being provided wherever this proves necessary for the passage of pipes and other sanitary equipment.

In this regard, it is clear that other arrangements can be made on the sanitary cabin and, in particular, it is entirely possible to equip the pull-out box 12 and / or the side walls of the fixed 1 or mobile 2 parts. of all the hanging objects needed in a bathroom (mirrors, bathroom cabinets, etc.). In addition, toilets and a sink can also be fitted, either on the fixed part 1, or on the mobile part 2, or on the box 12. Finally, it will be observed that the principle of the cabin stated above could apply for non-sanitary purposes such as the construction of sauna cabins or photographic development with variable geometry (allowing to obtain a dark and waterproof laboratory in a small apartment or house offering no dark place), or even the realization of isolated rooms, etc ...

Etant donné l'encombrement assez faible du lavabo 18, il est clair que le battant intérieur 17a pourra présenter seulement une demie hauteur, suffisante pour permettre le dégagement ou l'escamotage dudit lavabo 18.Finally, according to another characteristic of the invention which will now be described with reference to Figures 8, the access door 17 to the cabin consists of an external leaf 17 a , articulated by a vertical hinge on said cabin which cooperates with an internal leaf 17 b , which fits into said external leaf 17 a , and which is articulated vertically on the latter. The inner leaf 17 b has on its front face a sink 18 or any similar sanitary device; this sink 18 is set back towards the interior of the cabin and is articulated on the outer leaf 17 a by the same hinge as the internal leaf 17 b . In the position of use of the sink 18 (FIG. 9), which corresponds to the position of non-use of the sanitary cabin, the inner leaf 17 b is pushed back towards the interior of said cabin so that the sink 18 is set back inside the cabin, with minimal bulk outside the cabin; conversely, when the user wants to take a shower (Figure 10), he opens the external leaf 17 a to access the interior of the cabin, then pushes the internal leaf 17 b and the sink 18 outwards so as to completely free the interior space of said cabin. Given the relatively small size of the sink 18, it is clear that the inner leaf 17 a may have only half a height, sufficient to allow the release or retraction of said sink 18.

In an alternative embodiment of the door 17 illustrated in FIGS. 11 and 12, the internal leaf 17 b is replaced by a partition pivoting about a vertical median axis 20, on which the sink 18 is directly fixed. FIGS. 11 and 12 show the sink 18 in its respective positions in and outside the volume of the sanitary cabin.
