- These vertical sections 11, 12, 13 may be of any kind, as for instance box type sections.
- the central elements 8 are provided with rabbets 14 along their facing edges and with a key-lock 15 and bolting system.
- the elements 7 and 8 of the grating are filled with variously shaped sections of various design, interconnected and secured to the sections 11, 12, 13, 14 so as to form the grating panels.
- Fig 1 shows two possible solutions for these panels.
- the window fixtures 5,6, and the grating are closed whereas they are both open in fig. 4.
- the open blind 6 is resting in its usual position against the outer wall of the building where the sashes are blocked by movable hooks .
- the window 5 and the blind 6 are open, the grating may either remain closed to protect the home or may be opened outwards so that the narrow elements 7 are resting against the sides of the window opening whereas the larger central elements 8 are resting against and superimposed on the sashes of the open blind 6.
- the grating will not be cumbersome and the hook blocking the open blinds can be easily moved .
- the double wing grating may also be single-wing according to the above described system when the door, the glazed door or the blind is single winged.
- the grating subject matter of this invention may be installed in any wooden, plastic, metal or other frame and with any window type, whether side hung, folding or sliding etc. while the blinds may be in wooden, plastic panel or slate structure.

Abstract
Description
- It is well known that homes and premises located at ground floor or low storey level and more generally, all isolated dwellings and premises require special protection against vandalic and delinquent acts from ill-intentioned persons.
- Nowadays, antitheft security devices are installed or exterior doors, normal and French windows etc. are protected by metal gratings or grilles. The installation of such gratings causes however various problems.
Wall mounted exterior gratings are obviously safe but they have the drawback that they cannot be installed in door openings and do not permit the installation of outwards opening blinds. Wall mounted gratings, if installed between the blind and the window, won't permit easy movement of the blinds which are normally blocked to prevent banging caused by the wind. - Furthermore, gratings are known that consist of wings that can be opened but they are unaesthetic, cumbersome and dangerous when they are opened inwards or outwards . The fact that in certain zones the window and door openings have to be protected by mosquito nets should also be taken into account and this further complicates the installation of the gratings, because easy installation and opening of this accessory is necessary and such mosquito nets are now normally fitted in special frames that allow for their easy installation in the door and window openings .
- This invention has the aim to eliminate the above mentioned drawbacks and to suggest a functional, uncumbersome and low cost solution for the installation of such gratings with or without mosquito net, in window, door and French window frames, complete with fixtures and blinds.
- In principle, according to this invention, the grating or grille is placed between the window and blind or door and it usually consists of two wings articulated on double vertical hinges so that each wing is formed by two vertical elements of which the outer one is rather narrow and when open, may rest against the wall in which the window or door post is mounted , whereas the second central element is larger and will externally rest against the blind or the open door.
- The grating is fitted in a wall mounted casing and the winding equipment and supporting elements for the mosquito net sliding in vertical guides are mounted in this casing .
- The invention in question is illustrated in its practical and exemplifying implementation for a window grating in the enclosed drawings in which:
- Fig.1 shows a frontal view of the grating assembly. viewed from outside the room,
- Fig.2 shows a lateral view from the left of the grating illustrated in fig.1 mounted in a window opening,
- Fig.3 shows a top view of the grating illustrated in fig.1 mounted in a window opening,
- Fig. 4 shows the view of Fig. 3 with open window and grating;
- Fig.5 shows a magnified horizontal section of the grating in fig.1
- Fig.6 shows a longitudinal section of the fixed casing ready for installation of the mosquito net;
- Fig. 7 shows a lateral view of the casing illustrated in fig.6 but viewed from the left .
- With reference to these figures, the fixed casing of the grating consists of an upper 1 and lower 2 horizontal, - usually channel type - sections and of
lateral uprights 3 for which channel sections are also normally used. These sections are jointed by known systems and are secured inside the window opening 4. - This
fixed casing window 5 and a blind 6 of known type, such as for instance double sash blinds as illustrated in the drawing. - A mobile double wing grating is mounted in the
fixed casing lateral element 7 and a largercentral element 8, thenarrow element 7 being articulated onvertical hinges 9 secured to theuprights 3 whereas thelarger element 8 is articulated on avertical hinge 10 mounted on the center facing side of the narrowlateral element 7. In detail, thehinges 9 are connecting the fixed upright 3 to avertical section 11 of theelement 7 whereas thehinges 10 are connecting two adjacentvertical sections elements vertical sections - The
central elements 8 are provided withrabbets 14 along their facing edges and with a key-lock 15 and bolting system. - The
elements sections - From the above it is clear that the grating in question is installed in the illustrated window opening and that this window is provided with glass panels complete with
fixtures 5 and an external blind orshutter 6. - In fig.3 , the
window fixtures window 5 and the blind 6 are open, the grating may either remain closed to protect the home or may be opened outwards so that thenarrow elements 7 are resting against the sides of the window opening whereas the largercentral elements 8 are resting against and superimposed on the sashes of the open blind 6. - In this way, the grating will not be cumbersome and the hook blocking the open blinds can be easily moved .
- Obviously, this exemplified solution for a window may also be used for other solutions regarding doors, French windows etc.
- The double wing grating may also be single-wing according to the above described system when the door, the glazed door or the blind is single winged.
- Furthermore, the grating subject matter of this invention may be installed in any wooden, plastic, metal or other frame and with any window type, whether side hung, folding or sliding etc. while the blinds may be in wooden, plastic panel or slate structure.
- According to this invention, the grating in question may be fitted with a mosquito net so that the currently adopted fixed and not very handy installations can be eliminated. With reference to fig. 5, 6, and 7, a
roll 16 is lodged inside the upperhorizontal channel section 1 of the casing; this roll is provided at both ends with supporting expansions 17 rotating and frontally inserted in the inwards and upwardsslanting recesses 18 machined in the plates 18' closing the ends of thehorizontal section 1. - The mosquito-
net 19 is wrapped around theroll 16 and may be raised or lowered by means of thelateral guides 20 secured to the fixeduprights 3 and provided with an anti-vibration felt lining, just like normal roller blinds. - Furthermore, a special device will counteract lowering or unrolling of the mosquito-net and will ensure its automatic rewinding. For example, this device may be fitted with a
spiral spring 21 secured to the bottom and connected to arope 22 wound around the end of thespindle 23 of theroll 16. When lowering the mosquito-net, the rope is wound around thespindle 23 extending thespring 21 which thus automatically rewinds the mosquito-net. 19. - For easier installation and control of the mosquito-net and its fixtures, the
sections - To prevent undesired rewinding of the lowered mosquito-net, the latter has a compact strip or lath provided with hooking pins or fixed pawls fastened to its lower end. When these hooking elements are released, it will cause automatic rewinding of the mosquito-net.
- Obviously, the above described rewinding systems may be replaced by other known systems, such as counterweights, counter spring etc.
- It follows that the grating complete with mosquito-net will meet all functional and operative requirements for an efficient protection against tampering, mosquitos or other insects.
- If the zone is not infested by mosquitos, the grating subject matter of this invention may of course be installed without mosquito-net although it is designed for that purpose.
