Abstract

The grinder is mounted on a carriage (2), carried by a self powered vehicle (1). During rail grinding, the vehicle is fixed, stationary relative to the rail, whilst the grinding carriage moves to and fro along the rail. The distance between carriage and vehicle is adjustable. In addition to rail joints, other localised faults can be ground. During grinding, the carriage may be connected to the vehicle by an electrical supply cable (13). The grinder may have a rotary wheel, driven by a motor and the carriage is also driven back and forth. A lifting device (36) may lift the carriage into the vehicle. There may be several, e.g. two or more, grinding carriages independent of each other, on the vehicle. <IMAGE>

Description

It is necessary, in addition to periodic maintenance operations by reprofiling the rails of a railway track, to carry out ad hoc maintenance operations on certain sections of limited length, generally very short, such as welds of end of rails, level crossings or switches. In fact, when welding ends of rails, a weld bead occurs which it is essential to eliminate. In addition, certain points or zones of the rails of the track, welded or not, are deformed by traffic and must be specially reprofiled.

German utility models GM 7710195 and GM 7710735 are known, from French patent 1,479,320 and English patent 817,825, from small so-called manual grinding machines. These small machines can be moved manually or motorized along the track and can be immobilized, fixed, to the rails on either side of the grinding joint. A back-and-forth movement of the grinding head, generally controlled manually, parallel to the axis of the rail makes it possible to gradually eliminate the defect, in particular the weld beads. A pivoting of the grinding device about an axis parallel to that of the rail makes it possible to grind the entire surface of the head of this rail.

These grinding machines or devices are light, not very powerful and therefore work slowly. In addition, the quality of work greatly depends on the skill of the operator manually operating the machine.

It is also possible to use machines for reprofiling conventional rails which are made up of self-propelled vehicles associated with groups of grinding units making it possible to treat the entire surface of the rail head. These machines are generally reserved for continuous reprofiling of the rail over their entire length. They can however exceptionally be used for grinding a joint or an insulated area of short length of a rail, their generally high power makes it possible to significantly reduce the grinding time of a joint.

These conventional machines, of the type for example of those described in the patents CH 680.597, CH 680.672 and CH 68 598 however have two major drawbacks for grinding joints or point defects in a rail.

On the one hand, these machines by their construction are long, around six to ten meters depending on the model, and heavy, between 15 and 25 tonnes. To perform the grinding operation of a joint, the machine must be moved completely on both sides of the joint several times in succession. It is therefore necessary to accelerate and brake a very large mass successively at short time intervals. The machine must also be moved a very long distance from the length of the area to grind. This results in wasted time and wasted energy.

On the other hand, the axle load of these machines is high and generates a deformation of the rail in line with the wheel (cf. Die Eisenbannschiene, Wilhelm Ernst und Sohn, Berlin, p. 25), and therefore in the vicinity of the area to grind which makes the grinding operation more delicate and less precise. The result obtained by such large machines for grinding joints is thus not very productive in relation to the time and the energy expended.

An additional drawback lies in the fact that the operator undergoes the forces of acceleration of the reciprocating movement of the machine which in the long run is very unpleasant. It can be noted that this drawback for the personnel, which was also present in the traditional tamping machines for repairing the track ballast, has led to the design of modern continuous tamping machines.

The purpose of the grinding machine according to the invention is to allow the grinding of joints or areas of reduced length of a rail economically, quickly, with precision and accuracy and without disadvantages for the personnel serving.

The grinding machine according to the present invention tends to obviate the aforementioned drawbacks of existing machines, large or small, and is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claim 1.

The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example two embodiments of the grinding machine according to the invention and on a larger scale, the grinding carriage of these machines.

Figure 1 is an elevation of a first embodiment of the grinding machine according to the invention in the displacement position from one site to another.

La figure 2 illustre la machine représentée à la figure 1 en position de travail, soit de meulage d une zone ponctuelle d'un rail.FIG. 2 illustrates the machine represented in FIG. 1 in the working position, that is to say for grinding a point area of a rail.

Figure 3 illustrates the machine illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 in the position of movement along the railway for a short distance.

Figure 4 is a view, on a larger scale, in elevation of the grinding carriage of the machine.

Figure 5 is in its left part a section along the line A-A of Figure 4 and in its right part an end view of the grinding carriage.

Les figures 6 et 7 illustrent une seconde forme d'exécution de la machine de meulage selon l'invention, en élévation, dans des positions correspondant à celles illustrées aux figures 1, respectivement 3.FIGS. 6 and 7 illustrate a second embodiment of the grinding machine according to the invention, in elevation, in positions corresponding to those illustrated in FIGS. 1, respectively 3.

With reference to FIGS. 1 to 5, the first embodiment of the grinding machine, in particular rail end joints, or other localized defects of a rail of a railroad track, is a machine called rail- road, that is to say able to move either along a railway track, or on road.

Cette machine de meulage comporte d'une part un véhicule 1 automoteur et producteur d'énergie, d'énergie électrique notamment, et d'autre part, au moins un chariot de meulage 2.This grinding machine comprises on the one hand a self-propelled vehicle 1 and producer of energy, in particular electrical energy, and on the other hand, at least one carriage grinding 2.

The rail-road self-propelled vehicle 1 comprises a chassis 3 mounted on a front road train 4 and a rear road train 5 propelled by a conventional diesel engine. This vehicle 1 comprises a pilot cabin 6 grouping together all the usual commands for a rail-road vehicle.

This vehicle also includes retractable bogies 7 using hydraulic cylinders 8, 9 fitted with wheels making it possible, in the service position (FIG. 2), to rest on the rails of a railway track and to lift the road trains 4, 5.

The hydraulic energy required to actuate the cylinders 8, 9 is delivered by a hydraulic unit 10 powered by a diesel engine 11 carried by the chassis 3. This diesel engine 11 also drives an electric generator 12 which, as will be seen more away, will supply electricity to the grinding units of the grinding carriage 2 via a flexible electric cable 13.

The self-propelled vehicle is also provided with a grinding operations control cabin 14 grouping together the controls of the grinding units and of the grinding carriage itself.

The grinding carriage 2, illustrated in detail in FIGS. 4 and 5, comprises a frame provided with rollers 15 intended to cooperate with the rails 16. This frame conventionally carries grinding units, angularly displaceable about an axis parallel to that of the rail 16 using jacks or electric motors 17. Each grinding unit comprises an electric motor 18 driving a lapidary wheel 19. In the example illustrated the grinding carriage 2 comprises four grinding units 18,19 mounted in pairs in cradles 20 articulated on the frame. The metal removal capacity of the grinding units is determined by the bearing force of the grinding wheels 19 on the rail and by their speed of rotation.

Ce câble 30 passe sur une poulie 31 d'un système d'enroulement 32 porté par le véhicule automoteur 1.The grinding carriage is also provided with a foldable and telescopic mast 28 carrying at its end an electrical connector 29 supplying the various electric motors 18,25,26 with energy when this connector is connected to the end of the electrical cable 13. L the end of the mast 28 serves as an anchor point for a cable 30 for supporting the electric cable 13. This cable 30 passes over a pulley 31 of a winding system 32 carried by the self-propelled vehicle 1.

Le câble de support 30 est décroché du mât 28.The grinding carriage 2 finally comprises lifting axes 33 intended to cooperate with hooks 34 at the end of pivoting arms 35 on the chassis of the self-propelled vehicle under the action of lifting cylinders 36. Thus, thanks to this device lifting the trolley 2 can be carried by the self-propelled vehicle (figure 1) for its movements from one site to another. In this position carried by the vehicle, the telescopic arm 28 of the carriage 2 is retracted and folded and the electrical supply cable 13 is disconnected. The support cable 30 is released from the mast 28.

When the rail-road self-propelled vehicle arrives on a railway track near a grinding joint, the vehicle aligns with the track and the bogies 6,7 are lowered, cooperating with the rails and lifting the road trains 4,5.

The mast 28 is raised, connected to the cable 30 and the electric cable 13 is connected to the connector 29.

The grinding machine is in the working position (Figure 2). The heavy self-propelled vehicle is immobilized on the track. The light carriage 2, connected only by cables 30 and 13 to the vehicle 1, is driven in a reciprocating movement on either side of the joint to be ground by the motor 26 and the chain link 27. The reduced mass and the short length of the grinding carriage 2 allow short and rapid back-and-forth movements. The weight of the carriage being very low, the deformation of the rail in line with the rollers 15 is therefore very low, which improves the precision of grinding.

The main characteristic of this grinding machine, which solves the problem posed is to achieve the goals and advantages offered, is that in the working position the grinding carriage moves alone along the track in its movements of va- back and forth, the self-propelled vehicle remaining stationary and then serving only supplying power to the components of the truck and ensuring their control from the cockpit 14.

Other advantages stem from this configuration, the main ones being, in particular:
  • better inscription on the curve, the length of the grinding carriage being small.
  • Control of the ground area is easy either from the cockpit 14, or visually by standing next to the grinding carriage.
  • Operators' comfort is improved, they can either remain on the self-propelled vehicle at a standstill and control grinding from a distance, or get off the machine and control grinding visually. In all cases, operators are not subject to successive multiple accelerations and brakes.

When short distances have to be crossed between two joints to be ground, the grinding carriage 2 can remain on the track and be mechanically coupled using a drawbar 37 to the self-propelled vehicle which can thus tow the carriage along the track.

The second embodiment illustrated in Figures 6 and 7 of the grinding machine differs from the first already described only because the self-propelled vehicle is a rail vehicle only. Road trains 4.5 are therefore eliminated. In addition, the controls of the grinding carriage 2 are grouped in the cockpit of the rail vehicle. Finally, in this embodiment, the self-propelled rail vehicle only has a diesel engine used for its traction as well than driving the hydraulic unit and the electric generator supplying the motors of the grinding carriage 2.

Dans des variantes, on peut imaginer que le véhicule automoteur comporte plusieurs chariots de meulage 2, notamment l'un à l'arrière comme décrit et illustré précédemment et l'autre à l'avantIn variants, one can imagine that the self-propelled vehicle comprises several grinding carriages 2, in particular one at the rear as described and illustrated above and the other at the front
