Definitions
- the invention relates to a braking device for a cross-country ski, wherein a recess is provided in the tread of the ski, which receives a longitudinal member designed as a brake shoe, the longitudinal member being pivotable out of the recess about a joint provided at its front end by a spring and the swiveling range of the side member can be determined by an adjusting device provided on the top of the ski and the side member is connected to the adjusting device by a connecting element, the pivoted out side member being able to be pushed back into the recess against the force of the spring and the adjusting device pulls the side member up against the force of the spring.
- DE-OS 33 34 488 shows a device for preventing the ski from sliding back.
- a box is provided in a recess on the underside of the ski and is closed at the bottom by a membrane closing the box.
- a carrier is provided in the cavity of the box and is connected to the ski binding by a connecting element.
- the heel periodically lifts off the ski.
- the membrane and the connecting element are pressed down into the snow. This prevents the ski from sliding back.
- Springs are provided between the membrane and the carrier for a more even distribution of the pressure.
- the disadvantage is that the effect of preventing the ski from sliding back cannot be set.
- the device is also useless as a braking device, for example on descents.
- DE-OS 36 18 547 a braking device of the type described above is shown. It is possible that snow and ice crystals can get stuck in the braking device and thus impair the proper functioning of the braking device.
- the side member backs against obstacles lying in the cross-country trail, for example stones or sticks, into the recess against the force of the spring, thereby avoiding damage to the braking device.
- a means is also provided in the adjustment device with which the braking effect or the effect to prevent the ski from sliding back can be set. So can the braking effect can be individually adapted to the relevant conditions of the trail.
- the invention has set itself the task of further improving a braking device of the type described in the introduction in that both the installation is facilitated and the functionality of the device is increased.
- the known advantages of retreating the side member in the event of an obstacle in the cross-country course and the possibility of adjusting the swivel range to regulate the braking effect are to be retained.
- the invention is based on a braking device of the type described in the introduction and proposes that a box which receives the side member is provided in the recess, the inner surfaces of which guide the side member in the pivoting range of the side member and the box at the front end with the joint cooperating joint element has.
- Such a configuration according to the invention makes it possible for both the box and the side member to be produced as mass-produced machine products which have the smallest possible dimensional tolerance with respect to one another, as a result of which the penetration of snow and ice into the space between the side member and the box is avoided .
- This increases the functionality of the device.
- the installation of the braking device in a ski is facilitated, since only one recess, which can accommodate the box, must be provided in the ski, which can meet relatively high tolerances.
- the inventive design of the braking device ensures that the box provides additional stability of the ski in the area of the braking device and at the same time forms the bearing or guide of the side member.
- the adjusting device is formed by an adjusting lever guided in a base, which has an eccentric inner surface on which a pin cooperating with the connecting element rests and the adjusting lever has an at least partially cylindrical outer surface which is suitable for the connecting element has a circumferential recess.
- the adjusting lever is partially rotatable about an axis, the inner surface being arranged eccentrically to this axis.
- a spring-mounted latching ball is embedded in the base, which preferably fixes the adjusting device in latching depressions of the adjusting lever.
- a circumferential groove is provided on the circumference of the lateral surface for the ball to slide.
- the ball is resiliently embedded in the base and thus already causes the lever to be fixed outside the snap-in recesses provided for preferred fixing.
- a circumferential groove is provided in the lateral surface of the adjusting lever for easier sliding of the ball.
- several snap-in depressions are provided in the circumferential groove, into which the ball can be pressed by the spring. This is particularly advantageous if the braking effect of both skis should be the same.
- the box is rounded at its longitudinal ends. With such a configuration, the installation process is drastically simplified. It is in fact possible for the recess in the ski to be produced by a relatively large milling cutter, the elongated hole made with the milling cutter having curves at its ends. These curves can now be used ideally with a suitably shaped box.
- the lower edge of the box is slightly recessed relative to the running surface of the ski. Inaccuracies on the underside of the box therefore do not impair the ski's gliding, as they do not protrude beyond the tread.
- a connecting piece which is integrally formed on the longitudinal member is provided as a connecting element and has a bore in the upper region for receiving the pin, the connecting element being provided in the rear region of the longitudinal member.
- a particularly simple handling is achieved if an upstanding web with a nose is provided as a joint at the front end of the side member, which has a notch into which the joint element of the box engages. Furthermore, it is proposed that it is favorable if a transverse web that at least partially spans the width of the box is provided as the joint element.
- the interaction of the crossbar as a joint element with the web of the side member provided with a nose and a notch creates a stable articulated connection between the box and the side member with simple means, for example by means of moldings to be prepared in the casting mold.
- the box and the side member are made of plastic as a precision part.
- Materials such as polyoxymethylene (POM), for example, are used as plastic, which are processed into stiff, impact-resistant and abrasion-resistant parts.
- a carbon fiber laminate reinforcement is provided to increase stability. Similar results can also be achieved with other known, fiber-reinforced plastics.
- the plastic is used in the injection molding process.
- a high precision of the interacting parts of the longitudinal member and the box prevents the functionality of the braking device from being impaired, for example, by the penetration of snow into the gap between the longitudinal member and the box.
- the functioning of the braking device is also independent of the configuration of the recess into which the longitudinal member or the box is inserted, due to the fact that the longitudinal member and the box are manufactured as a precision part. This results in a simplification of the manufacture of the braking device or the mounting of the braking device in the ski.
- a vertical section through a ski 1 is shown.
- the direction of the ski is designated 11.
- the ski has a base 4 on its upper side, which receives the adjusting device 5.
- the base 4 is connected to the box 2 by screws 40 through the ski 1.
- the box 2 is provided in a recess 10 of the ski 1.
- the recess 10 extends in the tread of the ski.
- the width of box 2 is approximately 40 to 80 percent of the width of the ski, the length of box 2 is, for example, 25 centimeters. For applications with other types of skis it can be useful to change these dimensions.
- the box 2 is open on its underside and accommodates a side member 3 therein.
- the side member 3 and the box 2 are made so precisely that the side member is guided by the inner surfaces 28 of the box 2.
- the invention achieves the fact that it is possible to dispense with a high level of accuracy when milling the recess 10 in the ski, which means a great deal of effort. Nevertheless, the proper functioning of the braking device is ensured.
- the use of a box 2 connected to the ski 1 improves the stability of the ski 1, which is reduced in the region of the recess 10. By appropriate shaping the longitudinal ends of the box, for example wedge-like, the notching effect of the ends of the recess 10 is additionally reduced.
- the longitudinal beam 3 consists essentially of a box-like strip, an upstanding pin 30 being provided in the rear region of the longitudinal beam, which has a bore 31 at its upper end.
- the length of this pin 30 is dimensioned such that it penetrates the ski, so that the bore 31 is at the level of the adjusting device 5.
- the longitudinal beam 3 has a joint at its front end.
- this joint is formed, for example, from an upstanding web 32, on the front side of which a lug 33 connects.
- a notch 34 is provided, which cooperates in an articulated manner with a joint element 23 of the box 2.
- the fulcrum 35 about which the longitudinal beam 3 is pivoted out of the box 2 is determined on the contact surface between the notch 34 and the joint element 23.
- a spring 36 is provided, which is pushed onto the pin 30.
- this spring 36 is supported on the base of the pin 30 on the side member 3 and on the flange 27 of the box 2.
- the box 2 has at its rear end a tubular piece 26 which partially receives the pin 30 and which has an inwardly projecting flange 27 at its upper end.
- the pin 30 acting as a connecting element is guided upward through the ski, the pivoting area being limited by the position of a pin 38.
- This pin 38 is inserted into a bore 31 of the pin 30 so that it protrudes laterally on the pin.
- the side ends of the pin 38 now rest on the eccentric inner surfaces 52 of the adjusting device 5 and thus limit the swiveling range of the longitudinal beam 3.
- the adjusting device 5 essentially consists of an eccentric designed with a cylindrical lateral surface 54 and having an adjusting lever 51 on its upper side.
- the lateral surface 54 is guided in the base 4.
- the eccentric is formed by an inner surface 52 which is eccentrically arranged with respect to the axis of rotation 50.
- the pin 38 rests on this eccentric inner surface 52.
- the adjusting lever 51 is adjustable about the axis of rotation 50.
- the adjusting device has, for example, a circumferential recess 56 arranged in the center on its underside.
- a snap ball 41 mounted on a spring 42 is provided in a bore 43 of the base 4.
- This latching ball 41 is guided in a circumferential groove 57, the contact pressure of the ball 41 in the circumferential groove 57 already causing a certain fixation.
- snap-in recesses 53 are provided in the circumferential groove, the diameter of which corresponds to the snap-in ball 41.
- the cross-country skis are usually used in pairs, which is why it is important that the braking effect of both skis is the same, for example, on a descent.
- This same braking effect is brought about by the precise setting of both braking devices, for which purpose the latching depressions 53 on the two adjusting devices 5 are arranged identically.
- This configuration of an adjusting device can, for example, also be important for other areas of technology, for example in the case of switches.
- the adjusting device 5 is hollow on the inside, as a result of which the pin 30 can move upwards.
- the space between the top of the pin and the eccentric inner surface is described with 39. If the ski now encounters an obstacle in the cross-country ski run, it is possible that the pivoted-out side member 3 can spring back into the recess in the box 2, since there is still one certain escape area 39 is present for the pin 30.
- the longitudinal beam 3 is pressed back against the force of the spring 36 into the recess defined by the box 2.
- screws 12 are provided at its front end. It is also possible for these screws 12 to be screwed in from below, as a result of which the screw head is no longer visible. The same applies to the screws 40 which connect the base 4 to the box 2.
- holes 14 are provided in the ski. Furthermore, an opening 13 is provided in the ski for receiving the pin 30.
- the pin 30 thus penetrates the box 2 at the opening 20 and the ski 1 at the opening 13, the base 4 at the bore 44 and the adjusting device 5 at the peripheral recess 56.
- the box 2 has two holes 25 for the fastening screws 40 at its rear end. Between these two bores 25, the pipe section 26 with the flange 27 and the opening 20 is provided.
- the pipe section 26 is slightly emphasized in relation to the other longitudinal member base 60, a corresponding drilling of the ski for the pipe section 26 resulting in a preferred mounting of the box 2 in the recess 10.
- the lower edge 22 of the box 2 is set back from the tread 15 of the ski by a few tenths of a millimeter. With such a configuration it is achieved that the manufacturing tolerances can be handled relatively generously without risking that the box 2 unintentionally causes a braking effect.
- the box 2 has on its lower edge 22 a flange 21 which projects beyond the box 2 and which covers the gap 16 between the box 2 and the ski 1.
- a joint element 23 is provided which interacts with the joint of the longitudinal beam 3 formed by the web 32, the nose 33 and the notch 34.
- the articulated element 23 here consists of a transverse web 24 which at least partially spans the width of the box 2 and which, as shown in FIG. 1, engages in the notch 34.
- the pivot point 35 of the longitudinal beam 3 is thereby determined.
- the box 2 has at the front end a rearward-facing fastening lug 29 which overlaps the side member 3 in the region of the articulated connection. This can also be done by an undercut, for example.
- the box is wedge-shaped at its longitudinal ends. Such a wedge-like design of the box reduces the notch effect of the box used. Such a measure thus increases the stability of the ski.
- the box and the ski have an opening for the connecting element in the region of the adjusting device.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a braking device for a cross-country ski, wherein a recess is provided in the tread of the ski, which receives a longitudinal member designed as a brake shoe, the longitudinal member being pivotable out of the recess about a joint provided at its front end by a spring and the swiveling range of the side member can be determined by an adjusting device provided on the top of the ski and the side member is connected to the adjusting device by a connecting element, the pivoted out side member being able to be pushed back into the recess against the force of the spring and the adjusting device pulls the side member up against the force of the spring.
In this case, a box is provided in a recess on the underside of the ski and is closed at the bottom by a membrane closing the box. A carrier is provided in the cavity of the box and is connected to the ski binding by a connecting element. In the typical motion sequence for cross-country skiing, only one ski binding is required on the forefoot, the heel periodically lifts off the ski. At the moment when the heel lifts off the ski, the membrane and the connecting element are pressed down into the snow. This prevents the ski from sliding back. Springs are provided between the membrane and the carrier for a more even distribution of the pressure. The disadvantage here is that the effect of preventing the ski from sliding back cannot be set. The device is also useless as a braking device, for example on descents. Furthermore, there is also a fear that the membrane on objects lying in the cross-country trail, for example branches or stones, will be damaged and that the device will be damaged.
In DE-OS 36 18 547 a braking device of the type described above is shown. It is possible that snow and ice crystals can get stuck in the braking device and thus impair the proper functioning of the braking device. Advantageously, the side member backs against obstacles lying in the cross-country trail, for example stones or sticks, into the recess against the force of the spring, thereby avoiding damage to the braking device. A means is also provided in the adjustment device with which the braking effect or the effect to prevent the ski from sliding back can be set. So can the braking effect can be individually adapted to the relevant conditions of the trail.
The invention has set itself the task of further improving a braking device of the type described in the introduction in that both the installation is facilitated and the functionality of the device is increased. Here, the known advantages of retreating the side member in the event of an obstacle in the cross-country course and the possibility of adjusting the swivel range to regulate the braking effect are to be retained.
To achieve this object, the invention is based on a braking device of the type described in the introduction and proposes that a box which receives the side member is provided in the recess, the inner surfaces of which guide the side member in the pivoting range of the side member and the box at the front end with the joint cooperating joint element has.
Such a configuration according to the invention makes it possible for both the box and the side member to be produced as mass-produced machine products which have the smallest possible dimensional tolerance with respect to one another, as a result of which the penetration of snow and ice into the space between the side member and the box is avoided . This increases the functionality of the device. Furthermore, the installation of the braking device in a ski is facilitated, since only one recess, which can accommodate the box, must be provided in the ski, which can meet relatively high tolerances. The inventive design of the braking device ensures that the box provides additional stability of the ski in the area of the braking device and at the same time forms the bearing or guide of the side member.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention it is proposed that the adjusting device is formed by an adjusting lever guided in a base, which has an eccentric inner surface on which a pin cooperating with the connecting element rests and the adjusting lever has an at least partially cylindrical outer surface which is suitable for the connecting element has a circumferential recess. With these simple means, a surprising effect is achieved, namely an easy-to-use and effective adjustment device is created. The pin cooperating with the connecting element lies on the eccentric inner surface of the adjustment lever and changes its height depending on the adjustment of the adjustment lever and thus determines the pivoting range of the side member.
It is expedient if the adjusting lever is partially rotatable about an axis, the inner surface being arranged eccentrically to this axis.
Experiments have shown that particularly good results are achieved if a spring-mounted latching ball is embedded in the base, which preferably fixes the adjusting device in latching depressions of the adjusting lever. For this purpose, it is advantageous if a circumferential groove is provided on the circumference of the lateral surface for the ball to slide. The ball is resiliently embedded in the base and thus already causes the lever to be fixed outside the snap-in recesses provided for preferred fixing. A circumferential groove is provided in the lateral surface of the adjusting lever for easier sliding of the ball. In order to be able to fix the braking device in several positions, several snap-in depressions are provided in the circumferential groove, into which the ball can be pressed by the spring. This is particularly advantageous if the braking effect of both skis should be the same.
It has also been found that it is advantageous if the box is rounded at its longitudinal ends. With such a configuration, the installation process is drastically simplified. It is in fact possible for the recess in the ski to be produced by a relatively large milling cutter, the elongated hole made with the milling cutter having curves at its ends. These curves can now be used ideally with a suitably shaped box.
Particularly easy handling is achieved if the box is glued into the recess in the ski. By gluing the box into the recess of the ski, savings are made in the manufacture of the braking device.
In a further embodiment it is proposed that the lower edge of the box is slightly recessed relative to the running surface of the ski. Inaccuracies on the underside of the box therefore do not impair the ski's gliding, as they do not protrude beyond the tread.
Experiments have shown that it is favorable if the box has a flange on its lower edge which covers the gap between the box and the ski.
It is expedient if a connecting piece which is integrally formed on the longitudinal member is provided as a connecting element and has a bore in the upper region for receiving the pin, the connecting element being provided in the rear region of the longitudinal member. The one-piece attachment of the pin to the side member simplifies the manufacturing process of the side member, since it can be produced, for example, by an injection molding process, the connecting element being provided in the rear region of the side member.
A particularly simple handling is achieved if an upstanding web with a nose is provided as a joint at the front end of the side member, which has a notch into which the joint element of the box engages. Furthermore, it is proposed that it is favorable if a transverse web that at least partially spans the width of the box is provided as the joint element. The interaction of the crossbar as a joint element with the web of the side member provided with a nose and a notch creates a stable articulated connection between the box and the side member with simple means, for example by means of moldings to be prepared in the casting mold.
Hieraus resultiert eine Vereinfachung der Herstellung der Bremsvorrichtung bzw. der Montage der Bremsvorrichtung in den Ski.Particularly good results are achieved if the box and the side member are made of plastic as a precision part. Materials such as polyoxymethylene (POM), for example, are used as plastic, which are processed into stiff, impact-resistant and abrasion-resistant parts. A carbon fiber laminate reinforcement is provided to increase stability. Similar results can also be achieved with other known, fiber-reinforced plastics. The plastic is used in the injection molding process. A high precision of the interacting parts of the longitudinal member and the box prevents the functionality of the braking device from being impaired, for example, by the penetration of snow into the gap between the longitudinal member and the box. The functioning of the braking device is also independent of the configuration of the recess into which the longitudinal member or the box is inserted, due to the fact that the longitudinal member and the box are manufactured as a precision part. This results in a simplification of the manufacture of the braking device or the mounting of the braking device in the ski.
Experiments have also shown that particularly good results are achieved when the brake shoe moves forward and / or has an effective dandruff profile at the rear. Depending on the design of the scale profile, the brake shoe carrying the scale profile acts either as a climbing aid or as a downhill brake.

In Fig. 1, a vertical section through a ski 1 is shown. The direction of the ski is designated 11. The ski has a base 4 on its upper side, which receives the
The
The
The adjusting
For a comfortable adjustment of the braking device, a
The adjusting
To attach the
The
The
It is advantageous that the
At the front end of the
Due to the possibility of adjusting the
It is advantageous if the box is wedge-shaped at its longitudinal ends. Such a wedge-like design of the box reduces the notch effect of the box used. Such a measure thus increases the stability of the ski.
It is advantageous if the box and the ski have an opening for the connecting element in the region of the adjusting device.
