Definitions
- the present invention relates to a pocket knife with a lockable blade comprising a push button unlocking means.
- a first locking means of known type consists of a pivoting lateral strip comprising a front portion serving as locking means and a rear portion serving as a lever arm in order to bring the front portion closer or further away.
- the user presses on the rear portion of the coverslip, which disengages the front portion and releases the blade.
- the effort applied by the user is concentrated on a very thin surface which tends to penetrate the skin, making use inconvenient.
- Such a knife includes a lateral notch allowing access to the rear portion of the strip. This notch prevents other tools from being available on this portion of the knife.
- the strip used is very long and occupies an important place in the case of the knife handle.
- a lateral unlocking pusher disposed at the front portion of the handle allows the blade to be moved away in order to free the blade from the knife.
- the pusher must be prominent from the side edge of the handle and offer a lever arm long enough to minimize the effort required to unlock.
- the fulcrum is therefore relatively far from the handle. This conformation presents risks of scratches for the user or risks of damaging the pockets of clothing.
- the lateral pusher requires a certain space at the front part of the handle, where another tool cannot therefore be placed.
- Another type of knife of known type comprises a lateral locking strip, the front part of which can be moved parallel to the pivot axis of the blade. In the rest position, the strip is in contact with the blade and blocks it; when the user presses on the slat, the blade is released and can be retracted.

- the pocket knife with an unlockable blade comprises an unlocking means offering the advantage of being very compact. No element (except for the locking strip) is arranged laterally along the handle of the knife. This is particularly advantageous for a multi-function knife, which thus has maximum possibilities for distributing the different tools.
- the very slightly prominent button is discreet and easy to use and presents no risk of scratches for the user or risk of damaging the pockets of clothing.
- Figs. 1a and 2a illustrate a knife with a lockable blade, with unlocking means according to the present invention, the blade of which is locked in the extended position.
- the knife comprises a blade 4, with a cutting portion, the flat side of which defines a plane, called here "plane of the blade".
- the blade pivots around a pivot 5, substantially perpendicular to the plane of the blade and located at the junction between the blade and the handle.
- It also comprises a locking strip 2 with spring of known type, arranged laterally along the handle of the knife in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the blade.
- the tip 2a of the locking strip 2 cooperates with an anchoring point 6 of the blade 4, when the latter is in the extended position; the blade is then locked in this position.
- an unlocking means 1 provided with a push button 10 (fig. 2), with a flexible blade 11, advantageously in two parts joined by a pivot 11a.
- the push button 10 is arranged in one of the lateral faces 8 of the knife and can be moved along a substantially perpendicular axis in the plane of the blade.
- the flexible blade 11 is arranged under the push-button 10, pressing against the underside of the latter. A first end of the flexible blade rests against a fulcrum 7 of the locking strip 2. The other end is held fixed in a notch 3a formed in the intermediate wall 3 of the handle.
- the arrows in fig. 2a and 2b illustrate the dominant forces: In 2a the locking blade pushes the flexible blade 11 which keeps the push-button in the raised position; in 2b, when the user presses the push-button, the strip 2 is moved aside.
- the push button 10 may include a groove 10a, formed at its lower face, so that the flexible blade 11 can partially overlap in the push button.
- FIGs. 3 and 4 illustrate various examples of variants of the unlocking means 1 according to the present invention.
- an intermediate pusher 12 comprises an inclined plane 13 in contact with the pusher 10, the opposite portion being in contact with the fulcrum 7 of the strip 2.
- the push button When the user presses the push button, the lower part of this exerts a repulsive force tending to cause the pusher 12 to move in a plane substantially parallel to that of the blade 4, acting against the fulcrum 7 and thus spreading the strip 2 so as to release the end piece 2a from the anchor point 6.
- the inclined plane is arranged at the lower part of the push button 10. It is also possible to use these two inclined planes simultaneously.
- Fig. 4 illustrates a variant where the inclined plane 13 is arranged at the edge of the strip 2, at the interface between the strip and the push button 10. The operation is then similar to the variant shown in FIG. 3.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a pocket knife with a lockable blade comprising a push button unlocking means.
Several pocket knives of known types make it possible to lock the blade in the extended position. The use of the knife is thus easier and safer. A first locking means of known type consists of a pivoting lateral strip comprising a front portion serving as locking means and a rear portion serving as a lever arm in order to bring the front portion closer or further away. To unlock the knife blade, the user presses on the rear portion of the coverslip, which disengages the front portion and releases the blade. The effort applied by the user is concentrated on a very thin surface which tends to penetrate the skin, making use inconvenient. Such a knife includes a lateral notch allowing access to the rear portion of the strip. This notch prevents other tools from being available on this portion of the knife. In addition, the strip used is very long and occupies an important place in the case of the knife handle. There is also a more compact locking means, allowing tools to be accommodated on a portion of the handle. A lateral unlocking pusher disposed at the front portion of the handle allows the blade to be moved away in order to free the blade from the knife. To operate, the pusher must be prominent from the side edge of the handle and offer a lever arm long enough to minimize the effort required to unlock. The fulcrum is therefore relatively far from the handle. This conformation presents risks of scratches for the user or risks of damaging the pockets of clothing. In addition, the lateral pusher requires a certain space at the front part of the handle, where another tool cannot therefore be placed. Another type of knife of known type comprises a lateral locking strip, the front part of which can be moved parallel to the pivot axis of the blade. In the rest position, the strip is in contact with the blade and blocks it; when the user presses on the slat, the blade is released and can be retracted. This type of knife also requires a side notch to give access to the coverslip. It is therefore again impossible to optimize the arrangement of the tools in the case of a multifunction knife.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a pocket knife with a lockable blade comprising a locking means making it possible to avoid these drawbacks. This goal is achieved by the means claimed.
The pocket knife with an unlockable blade according to the present invention comprises an unlocking means offering the advantage of being very compact. No element (except for the locking strip) is arranged laterally along the handle of the knife. This is particularly advantageous for a multi-function knife, which thus has maximum possibilities for distributing the different tools. The very slightly prominent button is discreet and easy to use and presents no risk of scratches for the user or risk of damaging the pockets of clothing.
- la fig. 1 représente une coupe longitudinale de la portion centrale d'un couteau à lame verrouillable avec moyen de déverrouillage selon la présente invention, en 1a avec lame verrouillée, en 1b avec lame déverrouillée;
- la fig. 2 représente une coupe transversale (selon la ligne II-II de la fig. 1a) de la portion centrale d'un couteau à lame verrouillable avec moyen de déverrouillage selon la présente invention, en 2a avec lame verrouillée, en 2b avec lame déverrouillée;
- la fig. 3 représente une première variante du moyen de déverrouillage selon l'invention;
- fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the central portion of a knife with a lockable blade with unlocking means according to the present invention, in 1a with locked blade, in 1b with unlocked blade;
- fig. 2 shows a cross section (along line II-II of FIG. 1a) of the central portion of a knife with a lockable blade with unlocking means according to the present invention, in 2a with a locked blade, in 2b with an unlocked blade;
- fig. 3 shows a first variant of the unlocking means according to the invention;
- fig. 4 shows a second variant of the unlocking means according to the invention.
Figs. 1a and 2a illustrate a knife with a lockable blade, with unlocking means according to the present invention, the blade of which is locked in the extended position. The knife comprises a
En 2a la lame de verrouillage repousse la lame flexible 11 qui maintient le bouton-poussoir en position relevée;
The arrows in fig. 2a and 2b illustrate the dominant forces:
In 2a the locking blade pushes the

According to an alternative embodiment, the
3 and 4 illustrate various examples of variants of the unlocking means 1 according to the present invention. In fig. 3, an
According to a variant (not shown), the inclined plane is arranged at the lower part of the
3.Fig. 4 illustrates a variant where the
