Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for detecting times and intermediate times at sporting events, in particular large and multi-event events with immediate determination of the result, in which a larger number of detection stations are positioned along the competition route, which are connected to a control center that evaluates the incoming information, each detection station has a device for delivering energy and for receiving signals, and each athlete is given a transmitter with a personal code that, when the respective detection station is reached and the energy emitted by the detection station is received, sends the coding to the detection station issues, which is received by it and immediately passed on to the control center, where the evaluation takes place.
Each participant carries a remote-controlled, electronic measuring device during the competition. A watch contained therein is activated at the start by a high-frequency signal emitted by a stationary transmitter and by a second RF signal stopped at the destination. Transmitters are also set up at the checkpoints, the reception of which results in intermediate times being stored in the measuring device carried by the participant. The radio frequency signal received at the destination activates a transmitter transmitting the stored times and a subscriber code in the measuring device. The emitted data are finally evaluated by a computer.
It is to be regarded as disadvantageous that the participants have to carry a measuring device which is relatively complex due to their dimensions and their weight, for example when running, and that a current display of interim results which is interesting for the viewer is not possible.
A method of the generic type is disclosed in JP 2 200 280 and in Patents Abstracts of Japan, Vol.14 No.485 (C-772) from October 23, 1990. The participants of the event will be equipped with a device that is equipped with a receiver for light waves and a corresponding transmitter. Several stations are set up along the competition route, in which a clock in the device carried by the participant is activated or stopped by signals emitted by another stationary transmitter. Furthermore, the respective start number of the participant is emitted by the device carried, received in the station and wired to a central computer used for evaluation.
In addition to (due to the cable connection between the central computer and the intermediate stations) relatively time-consuming assembly and disassembly of this time recording system is to be regarded as disadvantageous in that the device to be carried by the subscriber is noticeable due to its - not least because of its own power supply - relatively high mass.
A method for time recording of vehicles on a racing course is proposed in US Pat. No. 4,449,114. Several receivers are set up along the competition route, which identify passing vehicles on the basis of the frequency of the received high-frequency signals emitted by a transmitter mounted on the vehicle. Interim results are evaluated and displayed by means of a central computer connected to the receivers by cable.
Here, too, the high mass of the transmitters to be carried and the complex wiring of the computer with the receivers serving as intermediate stations are disadvantageous.
In der WO 86/02186 A1 ist empfohlen, Objekte, wie beispielsweise Pakete auf einem Förderband anhand der Resonanzfrequenz von außen angeregter, am Paket befestigter elektrischer Schwingkreise zu identifizieren.WO 86/02186 A1 recommends identifying objects, such as packages on a conveyor belt, using the resonance frequency of externally excited electrical resonant circuits attached to the package.
An active transponder is described in US Pat. No. 4,517,563, which is excited by an external high-frequency field to emit a signal modulated with any data. It is suggested that Use transponders to identify a cow to be milked or a prisoner in a prison.
Proceeding from this, the invention has set itself the task of creating a method by means of which an immediate determination of intermediate times, an immediate evaluation and display of the current status of the competition and a route control of the individual competitors with little load and disability is possible.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the transmitter working passively and at high frequency, the athlete holding the high-frequency transmitter in the detection station, the detection station energizing the transmitter before radiating the coding via the device by means of radio frequency, the device being a loop antenna, and the detection stations are connected wirelessly to the control center and forward the received coding to the control center with an additional code from the detection station.
A core idea of the present invention is essentially a system which is constructed from a central and a plurality of peripheral detection stations which transmit the information received and specified to this central by wire. For those events that require a wide spatial distribution of the recording stations, you will for the sake of the faster Set up and dismantling and to avoid lengthy installation work for wireless transmission.
Each of the detection stations has an antenna, in particular a loop antenna for emitting electrical energy in the high-frequency range, and at the same time a receiving station that receives the code of the individual athlete - as will be explained in more detail below - and finally a transmission unit that transmits this information to the control center.
The control center in turn has devices for receiving the transmitted data and evaluates it via a computer of the usual type. In order to implement the method according to the invention, it is also crucial that each of the athletes is given a device which is assigned a personal code number, the formation of which is arbitrary within the scope of the invention, that is to say can consist of letter and / or number combinations. This device is a passive radio frequency transmitter. In the sense of the invention, the word "passive" means that the high-frequency transmitter does not have its own energy source, which is instead transmitted to it by the loop antenna. The result is that due to the lack of energy supply, the high-frequency transmitter can be kept of minimal dimensions and lightest weight, in order in this way to exclude any stress and disability for the athlete.
The method according to the invention is to be carried out as follows:
Each of the athletes is given one of the passive high-frequency transmitters with individual codes that allow identification of the individual athlete. The athletes set out on the course and successively head for the peripheral detection stations distributed over the entire route. Once there, the radio frequency transmitter is held in the detection station, briefly charged via the energy transmitted by the antenna and then the individual code - also wireless - is transmitted from the radio frequency transmitter to the detection station. From there, the information, provided with a code for the detection station, is immediately forwarded to the central office and recorded there. The information that is received by the head office practically in real time indicates the point in time at which a particular athlete started the specific recording station. This allows the current status of the competition to be determined immediately and displayed to the viewer.
Using the concrete example of the triathlon, the advantage of the invention can be explained as follows:
The participant will be able to use the interim record to check which of the sports have been successful or less successful for him, how much time he needs to move and how he compares to his competitors in each individual sub-phase, based on the density of the Determination stations determined is cut off.
The advantages that can be achieved with the system according to the invention are decisive in several respects: firstly, the possibility of ascertaining and consequently also displaying the current results creates the transparency of the state of the competition for the spectator and thus increases the incentive for the sporting experience. It is of particular importance that the previous competitions can be taken into account immediately, so that the preliminary end result can be determined and presented in terms of and according to the current status. In this way, mass events with an incentive for the viewer can also be held. The advantage for the organizer is that there is no need for the route inspectors and it is still possible to check whether the detection stations set up along the course have actually been passed as part of a route inspection. For the participants themselves, it can be determined afterwards in which phases of the competition they performed particularly well or badly in comparison to their competitors, so that it can be determined where their strengths and weaknesses need to be corrected. A significant disability of the athlete should be excluded due to the small dimensions and minimal weight of the passive high-frequency transmitter, which can be worn like a bracelet.
The use of digital coding is preferred, since on the one hand it means the immediate, i.e. possible without the aid of a converter, utilization of the measurement signals allowed and furthermore a high number of individual codings, namely up to 2⁶⁴, allowed.
In an expedient embodiment of the method according to the invention, it is provided that the results obtained by evaluation in the control center are made transparent by display on a display board and conveyed to the viewer.
The passive high-frequency transmitter mentioned can in particular be a transponder which is distinguished by its compactness, ie small dimensions and low weight.
