A pedestal of an item of furniture containing a device for the supply of electrical energy, in which pedestal at least one panel is constituted by three very exactly matching parts, arranged parallel to the inside of a metal frame (9) (9') of the pedestal ensuring assembly, in which parts at least one of the external panels contains a groove which is longitudinal to the lower part of the external edge, carried by a projecting edge (4) and an intermediate wood panel (5) of a smaller width than the two external panels (1) (1'), which fit together exactly by resting on at least one projecting edge of the adjacent panels.
  2. A pedestal according to claim 1, in which the longitudinal groove contains an electrical conductor.
  3. A pedestal according to claim 1 or claim 2, in which the electrical conductor (7) penetrates into the panel of the pedestal via a notch (6) forming a right angle.
  4. A pedestal according to one of claims 1 to 3, in which the intermediate panel (5) defines, after insertion, a cavity in which the conductor (7) is enclosed in a permanent fashion.
  5. A pedestal according to one of claims 1 to 4, in which the intermediate panel (5) contains within its thickness at least one optionally sealable opening (3) bored at a right angle.
  6. A pedestal according to one of claims 1 to 5, in which the modular fitted pedestal contains at least two electrical conductors (7) (7').
  7. The office furniture formed from modular elements and in particular desks, writing desks, bookcases or tables equipped with a pedestal according to claims 1 or 6.
