Definitions
- the present invention relates to a key strap type described in the preamble of claim 1. It applies in particular with strap wrenches of the aforementioned type for unscrewing oil or diesel filters motor vehicles.
- the support body is a simple cylindrical tube. This may be acceptable in applications envisaged in this document, and with a strap in one material such as leather but would not allow a smooth and precise operation in applications requiring a relatively rigid strap, in particular metal, such as removing the oil filters.
- the invention aims to provide a key to strap can be used reliably and conveniently in such applications.
- the invention is afraid of a key. with strap of the aforementioned type, characterized by the characterizing part of the claim 1.
- the strap wrench according to the invention can include one or more of the features of claims 2 to 10.
- the strap wrench for oil filter shown in Figures 1 to 11 essentially comprises a body support 1, a strap 2, a threaded rod 3 and a handle 4.
- Body 1 is a molded metal part externally comprising an upper bearing face 5 cylindrical, with longitudinal section (Figure 2) substantially circular, two 6 plane end faces and parallel, generally triangular, connected respectively at the axial ends of face 5, and two oblique lateral faces 7 connecting the faces 6.
- Figure 2 substantially circular, two 6 plane end faces and parallel, generally triangular, connected respectively at the axial ends of face 5, and two oblique lateral faces 7 connecting the faces 6.
- a at its base, the body has a tubular end piece 8 which ends internally with an annular radial shoulder 9 and which internally comprises, approximately halfway up, a circular groove 10.
- the body In its current part, above the shoulder 9, the body has a vertical bore circular 11 with the same vertical axis X-X as the bore of the nozzle 8, but of a much smaller diameter, and opening into the latter.
- the bore 11 On the side of each side 7, the bore 11 is bordered by a section groove 12 rectangular of constant width, the bottom 13 gradually moves away from the X-X axis, following a roughly circular convex curve (Figure 2), from of the shoulder 9.
- the side walls 14 of these grooves are coplanar two by two and parallel to faces 6.
- the upper face of this crosspiece extends exactly this side 5.
- the strap 2 is a metallic ribbon having substantially the same width as the grooves 12 and of which both ends are perforated.
- the threaded rod 3 has a thick upper part reduced, defining two planar and parallel faces 16, pierced with an orifice 17.
- the part upper of the threaded rod is split diametrically in 20 to receive the two joined ends of the strap, and the fixing is ensured by an appropriate member, for example a cotter pin 21 which crosses at forces a transverse passage 22 from the split part of the threaded rod as well as the holes in the strap.
- an appropriate member for example a cotter pin 21 which crosses at forces a transverse passage 22 from the split part of the threaded rod as well as the holes in the strap.
- the handle 4 has on almost all of its length of a tapped blind bore 23 leading to a flat and horizontal upper face 24 of the handle. Externally, the handle presents, from top to bottom: a smooth cylindrical part 25 conjugate of the bore of the nozzle 8 and ending with a radial shoulder 26; a flange 27 adjacent to this shoulder; a short concave portion 28; a convex part 29 extending over most of the length of the handle; and an short concave part 30 shorter than part 28.
- Three radial housings for balls 31 loaded by springs are provided in the cylindrical part 25, and the lower end of the handle has a projection 32 in the form of a hexagon to allow actuation of the handle with a tightening tool.
- the handle is secured axially of body 1 but can rotate relative to this one, and the two parts of the strap located in the body 1 are well guided laterally by the faces 14 of the grooves 12, and apply on their own, from the made of their elasticity, on the curved faces 13.
- the tool design described above provides, for a given size of the tool, a long stroke of the threaded rod 3, which does not need to be of great length, and therefore a great range useful diameters for the strap.
- the tool does not does not have any roughness that could catch on the parts of the oil filter or injuring the operator, and the curve of the handle provides great convenience of use: the concave front and rear parts 28 and 30 allow a wedging of the fingers for tightening / loosening of the handle, while the main part convex 29 fits in the palm of the hand to make it easier to unscrew the oil filter.
- the crosspiece 15 is replaced by two aligned holes 15A in which a stop is fixed removable insert such as a 15B countersunk head screw or a cotter pin 15C ( Figure 13). This allows change the strap without removing the handle from the body support.
- the tip 8 is shaped as male part and fits into a counterbore of the handle provided at the entrance to bore 23.
- a split rod 31A is partially received in an outer groove 10A of the nozzle 8 and partially in an internal groove 10B of the counter-bore of the handle, when the end piece 8 abuts against the bottom of this counterbore.
- the device of Figures 14, 17, 18 and 19, which does not constitute an embodiment of the invention, mainly comprises a hose or strap 101 connected by its two ends to a threaded rod 104 which slides with very little play in the molded body 102, drilled right through a smooth cylindrical hole 103, flared or grooved in the cutting plane of a shape rectangular on the filter side, to guide and facilitate the sliding of the hose 101.
- the molded part 102 for example of alloy light or plastic, mainly contains a cylinder drilled right through a smooth hole of diameter very slightly greater than the diameter of the rod threaded and two wings 108 and 109 allowing the creation of a partial cylindrical shape 110 having for axis and for approximate diameter those of the filter, so to marry the shape to facilitate tightening.
- the hole smooth 103 of diameter very slightly greater than diameter of the threaded rod 104 may consist of a particularly metallic insert 114, see Figure 17, which would have the advantage of reducing wear in the room 102 and strengthen its rigidity.
- the cylindrical handle 106 pierced right through part of a tapped hole, screws onto the threaded rod 104 ensuring its traction and that of the flexible 101 which can tighten the circled filter firmly.
- the threaded part can be added (insert 113 for example), see Figure 17, which would have the advantage of reducing wear in the handle 106 and strengthen the rigidity.
- the handle 106 can be knurled to increase the grip of the hand.
- the handle 106 and the body 102 are butted, without penetration, coaxial and centered by the rod threaded 104.
- a circular groove 111 of a slight width and depth of 2 to 4 mm, is practiced at the end of room 106, room side 102, at a distance of about 3 to 5 mm.
- a circular groove 112 with a narrow width and a depth of 2 to 4 mm is made at the end of part 102, side part 106, at a distance of about 3 to 5 mm.
- a circular ring 105 see Figure 15 and Figure 16 (enlargement of grooves and part 105), mainly of section in U, is positioned and fixed in these two grooves, preventing parts 102 and 106 from separating (plan contact), while allowing the rotation of 106 by compared to 102 along the main axis of the device defined by the threaded rod 104.
- the ring 105 can be of sufficiently elastic material to be assembled by deformation or, if rigid, by strapping and welding.
- Rod 104 is split at its end, side flexible, in a diametrical plane, with a groove of approximately 1 to 2 mm wide, over a length of 8 to 15 mm, so allow engagement of both ends of the hose 101 and their fixing, either by a rivet 103, or by a welding or by any other economical and robust means.
- a plug 107 screwed, forced, or glued in the tapped hole of part 106, obstructs the end opposite part 102 to prevent penetration in the device and also for the aesthetics and the operator safety.
- the hose 101 can be made up of a cable or strip, thin, of a width from 5 to 12 mm, very resistant to traction and folding, and good adhesion. To increase grip, either a coating or the creation of roughness by striking or cutting.
- Hose 101 is of variable length according to a range of filter diameters. Diameters filters generally range from 60 to 120 mm. Many beaches will be expected.
- Equal diameters of parts 102 and 106 must be chosen to allow good grip hand, for example between 20 and 50 mm.
- the length of parts 102 and 106 end to end must also ensure a good hand grip (total length greater than width of one hand to form an acceptable handle) and will depend on the size of the engine in the area of the filter and its diameter.
- the threaded rod 104 remains, in all positions, inside the device.
- the length of it is twice its diameter plus length of handle 106, and is significantly lower than the length of parts 102 and 106 placed end to end.
- the threaded rod 104 can penetrate the device up to its contact with the plug 107.
- the tapping from part to part of the handle 106 promotes the stroke of the rod threaded 104.
- Several calibers of this device can be offered based on filter diameters and free engine space in the filter area.
- the cylindrical hole 213 drilled right through in the molded body 202 is flared or grooved in the plane the section of a rectangular shape on the filter side, to guide and facilitate the sliding of the flexible 201.
- the cylindrical hole 213 has a recess 212, more or shorter, handle side 206.
- the diameter of this recess 212 is smaller than the outside diameter of the handle 206 (knurled part).
- the body 202 has two wings 208, 209 allowing the creation of a shape partial cylindrical 210 having for axis and for diameter approximate that of the filter, in order to match its shape to facilitate tightening.
- the cylindrical handle 206 pierced right through from a threaded hole, screws onto the threaded rod 204 ensuring its traction and that of the flexible 201, which can tighten the circled filter firmly.
- the cylindrical handle 206 can be knurled.
- the cylindrical handle 206 has a more or less long shoulder 211, which comes fit in the recess 212, of the H7 / g6 type.
- a game 217 allows flat contact between the handle 206 and the body 202 at the end thereof.
- the handle 206 is centered on the body 202.
- the handle 206 and the body 202 are at end, coaxial and centered by the penetration of the shouldered diameter 211 in the recess 212.
- the handle 206 can rotate relative to body 202 while remaining centered relative to it.
- the handle 206 has only one degree of freedom with respect to the body 202. namely a rotation of axis collinear with the axis of hole 213.
- a half-toroidal groove 215 is made on the shoulder 211.
- a cylindrical pin 205 with an axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the handle 206 prevents the part 206 to separate from the body 202 ( Figure 23).
- the threaded rod 204 is split at its end, flexible side, in a diametrical plane, of a groove about 1 to 2 mm wide, over a length from 8 to 15 mm, to allow the engagement of the two ends of the hose 201 and their fixing, either by a rivet 203, either by welding or by any other means economical and robust.
- a plug 207 screwed, forced or glued in the threaded hole in part 206, obstructs opposite end to room 202 to prevent entry into the device and also for aesthetics and safety operator.
- the threaded rod 204 remains, in all positions, inside the device.
- the length of it is equal to once its diameter plus the length of handle 206, for example, and significantly less than the length of parts 202 and 206 placed end to end. Threaded rod 204 can enter the device until it comes into contact with the plug 207.
- the internal thread of side by side of the handle 206 promotes the travel of the threaded rod 204.
- the lengths of the handle 206, of the shoulder 211, recess 212, molded body 202, threaded rod 204, can vary with the advantage of ensuring a greater or lesser stroke therefore a better adaptability to different filter diameters commonly marketed.
- the device according to the invention is compact and aesthetic, presents no roughness and sharp angle may injure the user, and can adapt to all oil and diesel filters, cylindrical, oval or of any elliptical shape.
