Definitions

  • the invention relates to a machine for processing flat articles, in particular mail folds, comprising a transport path which extends from one of its ends in a substantially horizontal direction to bring a stack of articles on edge to a unstacking head, a unstacking head close to this end and which extends in a substantially vertical direction for unstacking a first article of the stack having its free face parallel to the unstacking head, and a mechanical retacking device to attack at least said first article of the stack, before unstacking it, against a jogging edge which extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the transport path and to the unstacking head.
  • Such a machine is known from document EP-A-0 295 686 and usually used for sorting large quantities of mail folds.
  • a jogging device is used because the mail folds do not all have the same dimensions and that each fold to be unstacked must be positioned (with reference to a jogging edge) relative to the head unstacking before unstacking. If such an operation is not carried out, two successive mail folds can be unstacked at the same time (phenomenon of double pickup).
  • the re-tacking device pushes each ply to be unstacked against a reference plane which is generally transverse to the ply to be unstacked, called a jogging edge.
  • the mechanical jogging device comprises a screw with a pitch greater than 1 cooperating with intermediate fingers.
  • the screw is installed in the extension of the transport path to the unstacking head.
  • the folds of the pile are pre-separated by the intermediate fingers as they circulate in the threads of the driven screw in rotation.
  • the intermediate fingers act so as to form, along the screw, packets of mail folds which become smaller and smaller as far as the vicinity of the unstacking head.
  • the mail folds of the smallest packets abound between the intermediate fingers and are pressed against the jogging edge by the effect of their friction on the external surface of the screw.
  • the pre-separation of the folds of the stack before reworking is necessary to obtain a reworking of all the folds of the stack to be unstacked by the unstacking head.
  • This function of pre-separating the folds of the stack before re-tapping requires that the screw has a substantial length, which leads to a significant bulk of the re-tapping device.
  • Such a jogging device is also complex.
  • the first articles of the stack which are muted, are clamped by the following articles of the stack brought by the screw. This results in effects of double setting at the time of unstacking.
  • the object of the invention is to remedy these various drawbacks by proposing a simpler and less bulky mechanical jogging device.
  • the subject of the invention is a machine for processing flat articles as defined by claim 1.
  • Pre-separation of mail folds is obtained by dropping each fold on the rollers at the end of the transport path.
  • the reworking takes place over the length of the inclined rollers which can be relatively small. Consequently, the two functions of pre-separation and re-tracking can be performed in the vicinity of the unstacking head.
  • the mechanical jogging device according to the invention is very compact. Since the first articles of the pre-separated pile are not pushed by the pile of pleats, there is no longer any effect of tightening these by the following articles of the pile. As a result, the risks of double intake are reduced.
  • the jogging device further comprises a support plate which extends in a substantially horizontal direction from the lower part of the unstacking head to penetrate between said rollers, this support plate having a width L, defined between the unstacking head and a line of intersection with said rollers, sufficient to carry several articles on edge molding.
  • This support plate facilitates the proliferation of mail folds reworked in the vicinity of the unstacking head which increases the rate of unstacking.
  • each roller comprises a cylindrical part covered with adhesive material followed by a threaded cylindrical part, the threaded cylindrical part being closer to the unstacking head.
  • a mail fold processing machine comprises a transport path 1 consisting of a strip or several continuous moving strips driven by motorized rollers 12.
  • the strip or strips carries a stack 2 of mail folds on edge to a unstacking head 3.
  • the transport path 1 extends from its end 11 closest to the unstacking head 3 in a substantially horizontal direction or having a slight inclination with respect to this horizontal direction (z axis). In the vicinity of the unstacking head, the transport path can be tilted slightly upwards.
  • a pallet 13 mounted on a rotating endless screw 14 moves at the same time as the stack 2 towards the unstacking head, so that the tail of the stack can bear on the pallet. In this way, the stack of folds remains compact during transport to the unstacking head.
  • the unstacking head 3 is constituted for example by one or more suction nozzles placed behind a continuous strip of perforated ejection. This unstacking head 3 extends in a substantially vertical direction (xy plane) and is arranged to unstack each first mail ply 4 of the stack 3 which is presented with its free face parallel or facing it.
  • a mechanical jogging device is installed at the end of the transport path 1 between the end 11 of the latter and the unstacking head 3.
  • This jogging device consists of several rollers 8 coated with an adhesive material as visible on the Figure 3.
  • the rollers 8 are distributed at regular intervals over the width of the transport path. As can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 3, they have axes of rotation 9 parallel to each other which extend downwards from the end 11 of the transport path to the lower part 31 of the unstacking head 3.
  • the highest part 8A of each roll and closest to the end 11 is offset vertically downward relative to the end plane 1A of the transport path by a distance equal to about 50mm so that a article of the pile overhanging above the rolls, falls on edge, under the action of gravity, on the inclined rollers 8 and is thus pre-separated from the stack of folds 2. Furthermore, as visible in FIG. 1, the lower part 31 of the unstacking head 3 is offset vertically downward relative to the end 11 of the transport path 1 so that the angle of inclination between an axis 9 of a roller 8 and the vertical direction (y axis) is preferably between 60 ° and 50 °.
  • each roller 8 is mounted for free rotation on a support structure 15.
  • Each support structure 15 is itself slidingly mounted with the possibility of locking on a strip 16 extending in the direction of the axis x.
  • the strip 16 is fixed by its two ends to cheeks 17 integral with the chassis of the unstacking head or the chassis of the transport path. In this way, it is easy on the one hand to replace a defective roller, and on the other hand, to adjust the spacing between the rollers.
  • Each roller 8 consists of a first cylinder 81 coated with an adherent material, for example an elastomer and preferably polyurethane.
  • a second cylinder 82 extends cylinder 81.
  • This cylinder 82 has a threaded outer surface.
  • the cylinder 82 is extended by a cylinder 83 forming a groove in which is placed a belt 84, for example of circular section (the cylinder 82 being closest to the unstacking head).
  • Each belt 84 of each roller is mounted on a general drive shaft 20 which is rotated by a motor (not shown) via, for example, another belt 21 or a set of gears.
  • the rotation of the control shaft 20 causes the rotation, in the same direction of rotation, of all the rollers connected to this control shaft by a belt 84.
  • each roller 8 is mounted to rotate freely on its support structure 15 around an eccentric axis 9.
  • the rollers When the rollers are driven in rotation by the control shaft, they behave like a vibrator for mail folds.
  • a jogging edge 7 is mounted on a side of the transport path in the vicinity of the unstacking head. As visible in FIG. 1, this jogging edge is a plate which extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the transport path and to the unstacking head (that is to say in the yz plane) leaving a space longitudinal free 71 between its end closest to the unstacking head and the latter. Mail folds unstacked by the unstacking head are ejected through this free space.
  • a support plate 10 fixed for example to the chassis of the unstacking head 3, extends in a substantially horizontal direction from the lower part 31 of the unstacking head to penetrate between the rollers 8 substantially at the level of the intermediate zone between a cylinder 82 and a cylinder 83 of each roller and then go up towards the end 11 of the transport path in a direction parallel to the axes of rotation 9 of the rollers.
  • This support plate has a width L, defined between the lower part 31 of the unstacking head and the line passing through the intermediate zones, sufficient to carry several folds on edge, for example 8 folds. In Figure 1, only the folds 4 and 5 rest on this support plate. In addition, this plate prevents objects from entering between the rollers.
  • the operation of the jogging device is as follows.
  • the unstacking head 3 is first actuated, then the transport path 1, the screw 14, the rollers 8.
  • the stack 2 of mail folds moves towards the unstacking head.
  • a first fold 4 of the stack arrives at the end 11 of the transport path. It falls on the cylinders 81 of the rollers which, due to their adherent coating, exert by friction a lateral thrust bringing the lateral edge of the fold against the jogging edge 7. Due to the inclination of the rollers 8, the fold progresses towards the unstacking head during its re-tapping.
  • the fold is taken in the threads of the cylinders 82 of the rollers (the threads being oriented towards the side of the jogging edge).
  • the length of a cylinder 82 is of the order of 15mm.
  • the threads of the cylinders 82 lead the foot of the mail fold forward on the support plate 10 in the vicinity of the lower part 31 of the unstacking head.
  • a second 5 then a third 6 fold of the stack fell on the rollers 8.
  • the folds 4,5,6 abound in the vicinity of the unstacking head 3 under the action of the cylinders 82 threaded rollers, their feet being tightened.
