Description

The present invention relates to a variable volume ski boot provided with tightening loops.

The very high level currently reached by the elite of runners in international ski competitions and the performance of the products used in competition, both in terms of skis and the rest of the equipment, means that the best runners are often not separated only by a few hundredths of a second. The search for aerodynamic form therefore plays an increasingly important role, since good aerodynamics allows you to gain the few hundredths of a second which will allow you to obtain victory. However, in this search for the improvement of aerodynamic shapes, we have so far neglected the shoe loops which constitute asperities on the surface of the shoe, asperities which exert braking at high speeds.

It is certainly known, in particular from US patent 3,529,368 and from patent FR 2,638,338 to cover a buckle or a shoe lacing with a flexible cover, but this, in the first case, exclusively for the purpose of ensuring a certain tightness to the shoe and, in the second case, to protect the closing means of the shoe against a risk of snagging.

The object of the present invention is not to protect the buckles of the shoe, or to improve the tightness thereof, but to improve the penetration coefficient (Cx) of the shoe in the air.

The shoe according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises an at least semi-rigid auxiliary piece attached to the hull ensuring, at least approximately, an aerodynamic continuity of the part of the hull carrying the buckles, at least in closed position of the buckles.

The attached rigid auxiliary part may consist of a cover hinged at the front or on the side of the shoe and covering the buckles in the folded position and which can be raised to open the buckles, or a lining having cutouts in which the loops are embedded, this doubling is preferably not fixed over its entire periphery or its entire surface so as not to hinder the loosening of the shell when the loops open, or a rigid cover held in position by the loops passing over bridges provided for this purpose on the cover.

Whether the auxiliary part is a hood or a lining, it will be thin and light, so as not to significantly increase the weight of the shoe. The lining will preferably be lined internally with a synthetic foam and fixed to the shell exclusively on its periphery.

This shoe, of current type, can be closed and tightened by means of two loops 6 and 7 passing over the flaps 2 and 3 and two loops 8 and 9 for tightening the collar 4.

Near the front end of the shell 1 is articulated a cover 10 of rigid or semi-rigid material having, at its end opposite to its articulation, two opposite holes 11 located on each side of the cover. Each of these holes 11 is intended to come to engage on a stud 12 provided on each side of the shell for maintaining the cover 10 in the folded position on the shell. In this folded position, shown in Figure 1, the loops 6 and 7 are completely covered and the top of the shell has a smooth and continuous aerodynamic surface.

The articulation of the cover 10 at the front of the shoe is carried out by means of a seal 13 of rubber or other elastomer. Shoes of this type generally include a gasket engaged between the front end of the flaps 2 and 3 and the shell. In the particular case, the lining 13 has, in addition to a part 13a constituting the lining itself, an external tongue 13b having at least one stud 13c engaged in at least one hole in the cover 10, so that the cover 10 is attached to the tongue 13b.

A second embodiment is shown in Figures 4 and 5. The shoe shown differs from the first embodiment only in the added auxiliary part. This consists of a light lining 14 having cutouts 15 and 16 in which the loops 6 and 7 of the shell are housed. The lining 15 is internally reviewed with foam and it is fixed by gluing or welding a marginal zone on the inside of the shoe and at the front thereof. The lining 14 has a flexible zone 14a on the outside of the shoe, this flexible zone being able to be raised to facilitate fitting.

According to a third embodiment shown in FIG. 6, the auxiliary part consists of a rigid cover 17 articulated laterally on extra thicknesses 18 and 19 at the end of the hooking racks of the loops 6 and 7. When is folded over the loops 6 and 7, the cover 17 can be held in place by various means, for example holes similar to the holes 11 coming to be fixed on pins similar to the pins 12.

According to a fourth embodiment shown in Figure 7, the auxiliary part consists of a removable cover 20 of molded light material. Above the loops 6 and 7, the cover 20 is not continuous but has, above the loop 6, two discontinuities 21 and 22 formed by two cutouts between which extends a bridge over which the loop 6 passes. Similarly, the loop 7 crosses two cutouts 23 and 24 and passes over a bridge between these two cutouts. The cover 20 is thus held in place by the loops. It gets up and folds down with the buckles.
