Abstract

The invention relates to an alpine ski binding (1) comprising a base plate (2) on which are assembled an element (3) for retaining the boot and a ski brake (8). The base plate (2) is intended to be secured to the ski by means of screws (14, 15). The ski brake has a base piece (10) superposed on the base plate (2), and the assembly of the base piece to the base plate is effected by the interaction of tenons (18, 19) and mortices (20, 21) of the base plate (2). The brake (8) is, moreover, assembled to the base plate (2) by means of a removable bolt (23). The front screws for assembling the binding to the ski pass through both the base piece (10) of the brake (8) and the front part of the base plate (2), and their head bears on the base plate (10) of the brake. The binding is delivered with the brake assembled and, subsequently, it is possible to dismantle the brake by unscrewing the front screws (14) and by opening the bolt (23). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to an alpine ski binding. More specifically, the invention relates to an alpine ski binding which comprises a base plate of generally elongated shape, on which are assembled a shoe retaining element and a ski brake.

Usually, a boot is retained in abutment on an alpine ski by a front binding element and a rear binding element. The ski brake which is fitted to almost all ski bindings is most often associated with the rear binding element.

The rear binding element includes a body which is assembled to the base plate, and which carries a shoe retainer.

The base plate is secured to the ski by means of screws which flatten it and hold it in abutment against the upper surface of the ski.

In known manner, the ski brake which is associated with the binding comprises at least one brake arm which is movable relative to a base secured to the ski between an active braking position and an inactive rest position.

For some currently existing bindings, the brake base is an integral part of the base plate of the binding. Such a binding is for example described in American patent US 4,729,577 or the French patent application published under the number FR 2 613 243. For these bindings, the brake is mounted on the ski with the base plate, which represents an economy. of assembly time. Indeed, the mounting of the entire binding is done in one go. However, if following a technical problem, you want to exchange the brake, it is necessary to disassemble the entire binding, and to change both the brake and the base plate of the binding.

For other existing fixings, the brake base is separate from the fixing base plate. The German patent application published under the number 27 25 184 shows such a fixation. For these bindings, the base plate is first assembled to the ski with the body of the binding, then the brake is assembled by its base to the base plate of the binding. In the event of a technical problem with the brake, replacement of the brake is possible. However, the mounting of the binding on the ski requires an additional operation which is the mounting of the brake on the base plate of the binding.

For these bindings, it should be noted that the brake is retained on the rest of the binding, and therefore on the ski only by removable assembly means, so that the brake can be removed easily. In other words, the fixing screws on the base plate on the ski have no role in assembling the brake to the rest of the binding. However, this assembly is subjected to high stresses when the brake becomes active. It is therefore necessary to provide means for assembling the brake to the base plate which are very resistant.

One of the aims of the invention is to provide a binding which can be mounted very quickly on the ski, all at once.

One of the objects of the invention is to propose a fixing tooth the brake is removable in a simple way with respect to the base plate of the fixing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a binding whose assembly screws of the base plate to the ski also exert an action on the assembly of the brake base on the base plate.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear during the description which follows, this description being however given by way of non-limiting indication.

La fixation de ski alpin selon l'invention est définie par la revendication 1.The alpine ski binding according to the invention is defined by claim 1.

The invention will be better understood by referring to the description below, as well as to the accompanying drawings which form an integral part thereof.

Figure 1 is a general perspective view showing an alpine ski binding, with a boot retainer and a brake, according to a non-limiting embodiment of the invention.

The binding 1 which is shown in FIG. 1 has a base plate 2, of generally elongated shape, on which a retaining element 3 is assembled for a ski boot.

It is visible in Figure 1 that the retainer shown is intended to retain the rear end of a shoe, and that it comprises a body 4, and a retaining jaw 5 carried by the body. In known manner, the body 4 extends over part of the length of the base plate 2. It can slide along the base plate 2, either to adapt its position to the length of the shoe, or when skiing after bending the ski.

The base plate 2 is extended forward, beyond the body 4, by a platform 6, which is intended to receive a brake 8. The brake 8 has a base 10, which is intended to be superposed on platform 6.

In known manner, the brake 8 also comprises at least one brake arm, and in the present case two arms 11 and 12 which are articulated relative to the base 10, and which are actuated by means of a pedal 13 between an inactive rest position in which the brake arms are raised above the upper surface of the ski, and an active working position in which the brake arms are heard under the lower surface of the ski.

In known manner, means resiliently recall the brake arms in their active braking position. In the present case, these means consist of the wire itself which constitutes the brake arms, and which is subjected to torsion when the brake is actuated in the inactive position.

The base plate 2 is equipped with means which assemble the binding to a ski. In the example illustrated, these means are represented in the form of screws, two front screws 14, which will be described later, and two rear screws 15. The rear screws 15 are located on the edges of the base plate 2, and they go right through it. A housing is provided for each screw, so that the screw head is supported on the top of the base plate 2 when the screw is tightened in the ski.

Preferably, the rear screws 15 are pre-laid, that is to say that, before assembly, holding means hold the screws 15 assembled to the base 2 preferably with the screw tip which projects under the base plate. These means are of a known type and will not be described in detail.

The brake 8 has, for its part, means for assembling its base 10 to the base plate 2. In the example illustrated, these means consist of tongues 18 and 19 which are located in the front part of the base 10 and oriented towards the front, and which cooperate in the manner of tenons with mortises 20 and 21 located in the front part of the platform 6. The mortises 20 and 21 are in fact carried by two wings at the front of the platform folded 90 ° upwards.

The means for assembling the base 10 to the base plate 2 also comprise a movable lock between an active position and an inactive position. In the active position, the lock ensures, in cooperation with the previous tenons and mortises, the assembly of the base 10 to the base plate 2. In the inactive position, the lock allows the base 10 to be released by a movement of rocker then translation of the base 10 to release the pins 18 and 19 out of the mortises 20 and 21.

In the example illustrated, the lock is represented in the form of a short screw 23, the threaded part of which engages in a threaded orifice 24 of the base plate 2, at the level of the platform 6. The length of the screw is determined so that the tip of the screw does not protrude under the base plate 2, when the base 10 is assembled to the base plate 2 and the screw 23 is tightened.

Ces orifices 30 et 31 et ceux de l'embase 10 se superposent lorsque l'embase est en position au dessus de la plaque de base 2.In FIG. 1, where the brake is shown separately with respect to the base plate 2, the screws 14 which allow the binding of the ski binding to be assembled are carried by the base of the brake 8. the base plate 2 has as for the orifices 30 and 31 through which the threaded parts of the screws 14 pass. These orifices 30 and 31 and those of the base 10 are superimposed when the base is in position above the base plate 2.

In other words, when the screws 14 are tightened in the ski, their head is supported on the base 10 of the brake, and act indirectly on the base plate 2 by pinching transmitted by the base 10.

In a known manner, the screws 14 and 15 for assembling the binding to the ski have a length sufficient to allow assembly of the binding to the ski under good conditions of behavior.

That is to say that different tools are required to operate the screws 14 or else the screw 23 and that it is impossible to operate all of the vas with the same tool. For example, the imprint of the screws 14 is of the type known under the name "POZIDRIV" and the imprint of the screw 23 is of the type with six internal lobes known under the name "TORX".

From the above, it appears that the brake 8 can be assembled to the base plate 2 at the factory, by screwing the screw 23 into the orifice 24. In this position which is illustrated in FIG. 2, the set of assembly screws 14 and 15 is in the preposition position, that is to say ready to be screwed, with preferably the screw tips which protrude slightly under the base plate 2. The fixings are delivered in this case with the brake assembled to the base plate 2, which makes their mounting on the ski 33 very quick and very simple.

Figure 3 shows the binding 1 of the previous figure assembled on a ski 33. In this position, the screws 14 and 15 are tightened in the ski. It should be noted that the front screws 14 exert their action directly on the base 10 of the brake 8 which, in turn, exerts a pinch on the front part of the base plate 2. The brake is therefore assembled to the ski by the means of assembling its base 10 to the base plate 2 and also by the screws 14. This element is therefore very resistant.

Figure 4 illustrates the disassembly of the brake 8, for example in order to change it. As shown in this figure, disassembly of the brake 8 requires that the front screws 14 and the locking screw 23 be loosened. The brake can then be removed from the base plate 2. A new brake can be put in place and be assembled to the base plate 2 and to the ski by tightening the front screws 14 and the screw 23 which plays the role of lock.

Thus, the brake which equips the present binding is removable in a simple manner, but on the other hand, it is already assembled to the rest of the binding when the latter is mounted for the first time on the ski. We realize that the base of the brake occupies an important place on the base plate, and that the mounting of the screws which is adopted here ensures good resistance of the brake and the base plate to the attachment to the ski, and on the other hand a possibility of disassembling the brake.

Naturally, this description is given for information only.

In particular, it goes without saying that the invention also applies to a front fastening element with which a brake would be associated.
