Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electrical connector with at least two main contacts consisting of main contact pins and assigned main contact sockets and a plurality of control contacts consisting of control contact pins and assigned control contact sockets.
- electrical connectors are required for the battery connection, the motor contact and the like, which on the one hand have relatively high powers and currents (for example up to 400 V or 250 A) can be transmitted safely, and which can withstand the harsh environmental conditions such as changing temperatures, dirt or splash water.
- they should be as small as possible, usable for different operating voltages, encodable for different locations in the automobile and equipped with additional control contacts for signal transmission.
- it is desirable that such connectors have pressure water tightness and a corresponding protection against accidental contact according to the IP 67 standard (corresponds to IEC 529 or DIN 40050), since they are installed in particularly critical locations, for example in the engine compartment under the floor panel.
- the known plug connection already has clear safety advantages with regard to a rollover between the contacts, it is neither optimized with regard to the creepage distance, nor is it designed to be safe to touch or pressurized water.
- no control contacts for signal transmission are provided in the known connector.
- the essence of the invention is to arrange all the main contacts relatively close to one another and to optimize the creepage distance in that each of the main contact pins is sunk in a blind hole which is filled by the insulating jacket of the associated main contact socket when plugged together.
- the interlocking insulating sleeves and blind holes of the main contacts each form a wide sealing surface and, despite the proximity of the contacts, a correspondingly long, labyrinthine creep path.
- the sealing function is supported particularly advantageously in that at least one circumferential groove or at least one circumferential first sealing bead adapted to the groove is arranged on the outside of each first insulating jacket and on the inside of each first blind hole, such that that when the connector is plugged together, the first sealing bead engages in the associated groove.
- the first sealing beads preferably have a cross-section in the form of a segment of a circle and thus correspondingly the function of an O-ring seal, and thus ensure increased tightness against pressurized water.
- a conically tapering cable grommet is formed on the first and second insulating body for each supply line leading to a main contact, which has a plurality of second sealing beads arranged one behind the other and rotating around the inner diameter having.
- the sealing properties are particularly favorable if, according to a further embodiment, the first and second insulating bodies are each made in one piece from an elastomer, in particular a chloroprene with a Shore hardness of 70-80.
- Such insulating bodies are mechanically sufficiently stable on the one hand, but on the other hand sufficiently soft to e.g. to seal the lines.
- the connector 1 consists essentially of two flat insulating bodies 2 and 12, each made in one piece, preferably from an elastomer, in particular a chloroprene with a Shore hardness of 70-80.
- the insulating bodies 2 and 12 each have a plurality of adjacent contact chambers in their interior, which receive and fix the individual contacts.
- the monoblock version with the integration of main and control contacts ensures a small design.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 two main contacts lying next to one another and a plurality of control contacts, for example 4-6 one above the other, arranged next to the main contacts are provided.
- the main contacts each consist of a main contact pin 5 and a main contact socket 15, which are inserted into one another when plugged together.
- the control contacts each comprise a control contact pin 20 and a control contact socket 21. Both the main contacts (5, 15) and the control contacts (20, 21) are snapped directly into their respective contact chambers.
- the contact chambers and also the contacts themselves have specially (staged) holding and sealing areas, which are designated in FIGS. 1 and 2 for the main contacts with the reference numerals 6 and 16.
- the holding and contact areas 6 and 16 are dimensioned so that a perfect contact holding and sealing is guaranteed.
- the main contact pins 5 are arranged in the first insulating body 2, each completely sunk in a first blind hole 3; each of the main contact sockets 15 in turn protrudes from the second insulating body 12 and is completely laterally surrounded by a first insulating jacket 13 molded onto the second insulating body 12, which completely fills the first blind hole 3 around the associated main contact pin 5 when the connector 1 is plugged together.
- a high degree of contact security is already achieved.
- the creepage distance from one main contact pin to the other runs over the walls of the two relatively deep first blind holes 3. It is therefore mainly determined by the depth of the first blind holes 3, regardless of the close proximity of the two contacts, and is therefore correspondingly long. This measure significantly increases the electrical safety even in the event of water ingress compared to conventional designs.
- the closely spaced walls of the first insulating jacket 13 and the first blind hole 3 already form an excellent sealing surface. Furthermore, one or more circumferential grooves 18 or one or more circumferential first sealing beads 8 adapted to the groove 18 are arranged on the outside of each first insulating jacket 13 and on the inside of each first blind hole 3 , in such a way that when the connector 1 is plugged together, the first sealing beads 8 snap into the associated groove 18.
- the first sealing beads 8 preferably have a cross section in the form of a segment of a circle and thus have the function of an O-ring seal. It goes without saying that without changing the sealing function, the first sealing beads 8 - as shown in the figures - on the inner wall of the first Blind holes 3 are formed and the grooves 18 can be made accordingly on the outer wall of the first insulating sleeves 13 and vice versa.
- a conically tapering cable grommet 4 is formed on the first and second insulating bodies 2 and 12 for each supply line leading to a main contact, which has a plurality of second sealing beads 14 arranged one behind the other and rotating on the inner diameter having.
- Such internally corrugated pipe grommets ensure that moisture or water can also be prevented from entering from the pipe side.
- the main contact pins 5 are covered at their front end with an insulating cap 9.
- an insulating pin 17 which extends over the entire length of the socket, is arranged coaxially and is inserted into a corresponding blind hole 7 in the center of the associated main contact pin 5 when the connector 1 is plugged together.
- the connector also has control contacts for information transmission.
- the main contacts and the group of control contacts are arranged within the same insulating body 2 and 12 in a common plane, so that the connector 1 has the shape of a compact flat connector.
- the group of control contacts is separate from the main contacts.
- the group of control contact pins 20 is arranged in the first insulating body 2 completely sunk in a second blind hole 22.
- the group of control contact sockets 21 protrudes from the second insulating body 12 and is completely laterally from one to the second insulating body 12 molded second insulating jacket 23, which completely fills the blind hole 22 around the associated control contact pins 20 when plugging the connector 1 together.
- first and second blind holes 3 and 22 ensures that in the case in which, for example, some contact chambers are not occupied with control contacts at all, no special closing of the unoccupied contact chambers, such as by blind plugs, is necessary, since in no water can penetrate the other contact areas.
- a coding is finally provided, which preferably consists of coding plates 10 and 19 attached to the insulating bodies 2 and 12, which lie opposite one another in the plugged-in state of the connector 1 and with corresponding cutouts interlock.
- This type of coding has the advantage over coding with pins that it works perfectly in any case with the relatively soft insulating bodies 2 and 12.
- Two examples of the configuration of such coding plates 10 and 19 are shown in FIGS. 3a and b.
- the joining of the coding plates when plugging together can moreover be facilitated in that a guide plate 11 which opens in the front region is mounted in parallel on one of the insulating bodies 2 and 12 above the coding plate 10 and 19.
- first blind holes 3 of the main contact pins 5 and the first insulating sleeves 13 of the main contact sockets 15 can be weakly conical in order to facilitate insertion and removal.
- the invention results in a compact, water pressure-tight, touch-proof and versatile connector in a harsh environment.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrical connector with at least two main contacts consisting of main contact pins and assigned main contact sockets and a plurality of control contacts consisting of control contact pins and assigned control contact sockets.
For an application, such as is present in the electric cars currently under development, electrical connectors are required for the battery connection, the motor contact and the like, which on the one hand have relatively high powers and currents (for example up to 400 V or 250 A) can be transmitted safely, and which can withstand the harsh environmental conditions such as changing temperatures, dirt or splash water. In addition, they should be as small as possible, usable for different operating voltages, encodable for different locations in the automobile and equipped with additional control contacts for signal transmission. In particular, it is desirable that such connectors have pressure water tightness and a corresponding protection against accidental contact according to the IP 67 standard (corresponds to IEC 529 or DIN 40050), since they are installed in particularly critical locations, for example in the engine compartment under the floor panel.
From DE-A1-39 40 652, for example, an electrical plug-in connection for underground mine operation is known, in which, due to a special design of the insulating body and a special arrangement of the contact pins and sockets, both the creepage distances and the clearances between two contacts remain the same Contact distance can be increased significantly. This is achieved in particular in that the respective contact socket is arranged so as to protrude from the insulating body and at the same time the protruding part is covered with an outer insulating jacket.
Although the known plug connection already has clear safety advantages with regard to a rollover between the contacts, it is neither optimized with regard to the creepage distance, nor is it designed to be safe to touch or pressurized water. In addition, no control contacts for signal transmission are provided in the known connector.
On the other hand, there are a large number of plug connections in the prior art in which main and control contacts are combined with one another without special measures being taken to increase the creepage distance, the pressure water tightness or the protection against contact.
It is therefore the object of the invention to provide an electrical plug connector with main and control contacts which, with small external dimensions, is safe to touch, water pressure-tight, suitable for higher voltages, and can be used for different voltages and currents.
- (a) die Hauptkontaktstifte und die Steuerkontaktstifte nebeneinander in einem ersten Isolierkörper, und die Hauptkontaktbuchsen und die Steuerkontaktbuchsen nebeneinander in einem zweiten Isolierkörper angeordnet sind;
- (a) the main contact pins and the control contact pins are arranged side by side in a first insulating body, and the main contact sockets and the control contact sockets are arranged side by side in a second insulating body;
- (b) each of the main contact pins in the first insulating body is arranged completely submerged in a first blind hole; and
- (c) each of the main contact sockets protrudes from the second insulating body and is completely laterally surrounded by a first insulating jacket formed on the second insulating body, which completely fills the first blind hole around the associated main contact pin when the connector is plugged together.
The essence of the invention is to arrange all the main contacts relatively close to one another and to optimize the creepage distance in that each of the main contact pins is sunk in a blind hole which is filled by the insulating jacket of the associated main contact socket when plugged together. The interlocking insulating sleeves and blind holes of the main contacts each form a wide sealing surface and, despite the proximity of the contacts, a correspondingly long, labyrinthine creep path.
In a first preferred embodiment of the invention, the sealing function is supported particularly advantageously in that at least one circumferential groove or at least one circumferential first sealing bead adapted to the groove is arranged on the outside of each first insulating jacket and on the inside of each first blind hole, such that that when the connector is plugged together, the first sealing bead engages in the associated groove. In this context, the first sealing beads preferably have a cross-section in the form of a segment of a circle and thus correspondingly the function of an O-ring seal, and thus ensure increased tightness against pressurized water.
The tightness at the line outlets can be improved if, according to a further development of the invention, a conically tapering cable grommet is formed on the first and second insulating body for each supply line leading to a main contact, which has a plurality of second sealing beads arranged one behind the other and rotating around the inner diameter having.
The sealing properties are particularly favorable if, according to a further embodiment, the first and second insulating bodies are each made in one piece from an elastomer, in particular a chloroprene with a Shore hardness of 70-80. Such insulating bodies are mechanically sufficiently stable on the one hand, but on the other hand sufficiently soft to e.g. to seal the lines.
Further embodiments result from the dependent protection claims.

Die Monoblockausführung mit der Integration von Haupt- und Steuerkontakten gewährleistet dabei eine kleine Bauweise.1 and 2, a preferred embodiment for a connector according to the invention with two main contacts and a plurality of control contacts is shown. The
In the example of FIGS. 1 and 2, two main contacts lying next to one another and a plurality of control contacts, for example 4-6 one above the other, arranged next to the main contacts are provided. The main contacts each consist of a main contact pin 5 and a
The watertightness, but also the safety against contact of the
The creepage distance from one main contact pin to the other runs over the walls of the two relatively deep first blind holes 3. It is therefore mainly determined by the depth of the first blind holes 3, regardless of the close proximity of the two contacts, and is therefore correspondingly long. This measure significantly increases the electrical safety even in the event of water ingress compared to conventional designs.
The closely spaced walls of the first insulating
An additional improvement in the tightness is achieved in that a conically tapering
In order to meet the requirement for safe contact in the unplugged state on the socket and pin side, the main contact pins 5 are covered at their front end with an insulating cap 9. In the center of the
In addition to the main contacts already described, which are generally intended for high performance, the connector also has control contacts for information transmission. The main contacts and the group of control contacts are arranged within the same insulating
In order to be able to use the
Finally, it should be noted that the first blind holes 3 of the main contact pins 5 and the first insulating
Overall, the invention results in a compact, water pressure-tight, touch-proof and versatile connector in a harsh environment.
