Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a camshaft drive for a V-type internal combustion engine according to the preamble of the main claim.
Such an internal combustion engine is shown in US-A-4,957,077. In this internal combustion engine, the two rows of cylinders are arranged in a V-shape with respect to one another, the two overhead camshafts of which are each driven by an intermediate shaft also arranged in the cylinder head via a timing chain. The intermediate shafts are each driven by the crankshaft via a chain drive. The two timing chains leading to the intermediate shafts in the cylinder head or their driven wheels on the crankshaft are arranged at a distance from one another which corresponds approximately to the offset of the two rows of cylinders.
Furthermore, DE-33 47 638 C discloses an internal combustion engine with rows of cylinders arranged in a V-shape, the two overhead camshafts of which are each driven by a single, double-row timing chain. Due to the overlap of the drive wheels of two adjacent camshafts and due to the offset of the rows of cylinders to one another in the longitudinal direction of the internal combustion engine, no identical camshafts can be used.
To use two identical cylinder heads rotated by 180 ° with one another in a V-type internal combustion engine is known from DE-88 13 425 U. Because of the drive of a camshaft of each row of cylinders on one end face of the internal combustion engine, these camshafts are designed differently.
The invention has for its object to provide a camshaft drive in a generic internal combustion engine, which has the smallest possible number of different components and thereby optimally uses an available space.
This object is achieved with the features of the main claim. This camshaft drive enables the use of identical camshafts for both cylinder rows in internal combustion engines with cylinder rows arranged at any angle in a V-shape. This advantage applies in particular to internal combustion engines with several camshafts per row of cylinders. Identical drive wheels designed as identical parts are arranged on all camshafts. The use of identical camshafts is achieved by an offset between the drive wheels arranged on the crankshaft and assigned to the cylinder rows, which offset corresponds to the offset of the cylinder rows to one another. In advantageous Embodiment of the invention, the space thus created between the driven wheels on the crankshaft is used to arrange a gearwheel which drives a spaced-apart crankshaft or an oil pump arranged coaxially with this gearwheel.
