Description

The present invention relates to heavy dobbies used for training the crowd on very large weaving machines, of the kind in particular of those used for the manufacture of tubular fabrics suitable for the production of felts or dry endless filters for pulp industry.

Due to the very large amplitude of the heald frame travel associated with these dobbies, conventional open crowd systems cannot be used and dobbies with closed steps must be used, that is to say in which each frame moves down or up from an average position corresponding to the cross point of all the frames.

In fig. 1 of the drawing appended hereto, we have very schematically recalled the general arrangement of heavy dobbies with closed pitch known in practice. Each of the heald frames CL mounted on the weaving machine is connected by a connecting rod 1 to a corresponding oscillating lever 2, articulated at 2 a on the fixed frame; one of the ends of each lever 2, provided with a crazy stop 2 b , is equipped with a double tilting hook 3 which is pivotally controlled by pushers (arrows 4) of the reading mechanism of the dobby in order to come selectively engaged with one or the other of two actuating knives 5 which are controlled to move alternately in unison in opposite directions.

The actuation of all of the double hooks 3 by the reading mechanism takes place when the two knives 5 are in the central position (levers 2 oriented vertically) and it is understood that, depending on whether a hook comes to cooperate with the 'either of these knives 5, the frame CL moves vertically up or down from the middle position corresponding to the closing of the pitch.

If such a system works relatively correctly when the working speed is reduced, the same does not apply when the dobby is associated with a weaving machine driven at the high rates now required in practice. In such cases, the double hooks are subject to rebound and vibration effects which make it difficult for them to be taken up by the drive knives. Furthermore, the pushers 4 only have a very short time to act on the hooks double and they sometimes switch with a very slight delay. However, in one case as in the other, any failure to grip one of the double hooks 4 by the knife 5 provided results in a weaving defect on the article in progress.

It is these drawbacks that the present invention mainly intends to remedy, which relates to the heavy dobby with closed pitch which is defined in claim 1.

In fact, the invention essentially consists in making each oscillating lever comprise two movable locking members associated with elastic return means which tend to apply them laterally against the double tilting hook to immobilize the latter angularly when it has been grasped by a actuating knife, while ensuring its release at the time of the order or selection, that is to say when the two knives come simultaneously into contact with the considered oscillating lever.

In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the above arrangement, the elastic means associated with the movable locking members exert on each double tilting hook an angular retaining effect greater than the tilting effect applied to this hook by the pushers. of the reading mechanism, so that these pushers can begin to act on the hook before the oscillating lever in question has arrived at the selection position, thereby allowing the pre-selection of said hook.

It will be observed that if the document US-A-1 759 530 (WELLS) clearly shows a mechanism for the formation of the crowd as defined in the preamble of claim 1 in which the double tilting hooks controlled by the reading mechanism cooperate, with bearing plates capable of acting on bosses of said hooks in order to keep them in engagement with the actuating knives, these plates are fixed and act in the manner of ramps to apply the hooks to the knives. The sliding of the bosses against these plates or ramps causes overheating and wear, at the same time as it appreciably increases the energy to be used; in addition the presence of the support plates does not allow to adopt a compact structure in the case of knives with large section.

The appended drawing, given by way of example, will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing:
  • As indicated above, fig. 1 schematically illustrates the general arrangement of a dobby with closed pitch of the conventional type.
  • Fig. 2 similarly shows the arrangement of a dobby according to the invention.
  • Fig. 3 and 4 illustrate two phases of operation of the dobby according to fig. 2.

2 to 4, the reference 11 designates one of the oscillating levers which are pivotally mounted on a common axis 12 and which are coupled by a connecting rod 13 to the different heald frames of the corresponding weaving machine. Opposite the connecting rod assembly 13, each lever 11 carries a double hook 14 which is tiltably mounted on a small axis 15 and which is intended to receive the action of two pushers (arrow 16) of the reading mechanism of the dobby to engage one or the other of two actuating knives 17.

These knives 17 are actuated so as to move alternately in opposite directions relative to each other. It has been assumed in the present case that these knives 17 move along a semi-circular profile having the common axis 12 as their center.

With each double hook 14 are associated two movable locking members constituted by two small friction pads 18 which pivot on studs 19 provided laterally on the lever 11 on either side of the axis 15 and which are connected one to the other by a leaf spring 20 with a loop-shaped profile, the ends of which are secured to said pads. This spring 20 tends to spread the actuating tails of the two pads 18 in order to apply their inner edge against the rounded lower part of the double hook 14, and it will be noted that at this working position, the aforementioned tails protrude laterally of the profile of the lower end of the oscillating levers 11.

2).It is therefore conceivable that when an oscillating lever 11 is in the vertical orientation illustrated in FIG. 2, with the two knives 17 applied against the lower end of this lever 11, the pads 18 are pushed towards the center by said knives and therefore have no retaining effect on the corresponding hook 14. It is therefore free to switch under the effect of one or other of the two pushers 16 in order to come into engagement with the knife 17 which has been selected by the reading mechanism (left knife in the example envisaged in Fig. 2).

4.The oscillating lever 11 is consequently driven by this knife 17 and moves to the left, as illustrated in FIG. 3. The same effect obviously occurs when it is the opposite knife (right on the drawing) which has been selected, as shown in fig. 4.

It should be observed that in one case as in the other, the shoe 18 turned opposite the knife 17 which controls the oscillating lever 11 receives the action of the leaf spring 20 which applies it against the profile lower hook 14, which is thus locked angularly during all the oscillating movement of the lever 11 envisaged.

If we now assume that this spring 20 has been arranged so that it exerts on this locking pad 18 a greater angular retention force than that which is applied by one or other of the pushers 16 of the reading mechanism on the hook 14 with a view to selection, it is possible to ensure that the chosen pusher 16 begins to act on the hook 16 before the lever 11 has reached the vertical selection position according to FIG. 2; of course, this hook will not tilt until it has been released by the two pads 18, but such a structure allows the pre-selection of the hooks and levers; the reading mechanism consequently has a longer period of time for selection and in this way any risk of defect is avoided even at the high operating speeds now required for the dobby.

The device according to the invention constituted by the pads 18 and the springs 20 therefore ensures in practice the positive locking of the hooks 14 (anti-rebound effect) and the pre-selection thereof.

It goes without saying that other embodiments can be imagined for the movable members 18 and the elastic return means 20.
