Claims (8)

  1. A return device, for an internal combustion engine starter head consisting principally of a motor shaft (34) on which a starter pinion (10) is able to slide, the starter pinion being secured by means of a shroud (26) to a free wheel (18) and a drive sleeve (24), characterised in that it consists of a ring (38) having at its inner periphery a plurality of resiliently deformable gripping elements (14) which cooperate in snap-fitting engagement with a groove (46) formed on the outer periphery of an end portion (48) of the drive sleeve (24).
  2. A device according to Claim 1, characterised in that the gripping elements (44) define an angle of inclination (E) with respect to the axis (X-X) of the ring (38).
  3. A device according to Claim 2, characterised in that the said angle of inclination (E) lies between 20° and 45°.
  4. A device according to Claim 3, characterised in that the angle of inclination (E) is 30°.
  5. A device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the groove (46) defines, with respect to the axis (Y-Y) of the drive sleeve (24), an angle of inclination (F) smaller than the angle of inclination (E) of the gripping elements (44).
  6. A device according to Claim 5, characterised in that the angle of inclination (F) of the groove (46) is substantially equal to one half of the angle of inclination (E) of the gripping elements (44).
  7. A device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the ring (38) has at its outer periphery a wall (24) which includes a collar (50) projecting from the said wall (42).
  8. A device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the end portion (48) of the drive sleeve (24) includes a plurality of helical grooves (56) on its outer periphery, the number of gripping elements (44) in the ring (38) being a multiple of the number of helical grooves (56).
