Abstract

A residual current device having at least one supply conductor and one return conductor which form the primary windings for a summing current transformer, its secondary winding emitting a signal if a fault current occurs in the supply and return conductors, which signal drives a trip device which unlatches the latching point of a latching mechanism, as a result of which contact points which are located in the supply and return conductors are opened, the trip device having an element consisting of electrostrictive material whose one end is held in a fixed position in the switch and whose other end, which deflects in the case of a signal, acts on the latching point. <IMAGE>
