Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for the metered coating of an application roller with a liquid application agent according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a main application of such devices is inking units for printing presses, the application agent being a printing ink.
- the device can also be used, for example, when laminating paper.
- a device is known from FR-A-2 112 669.
- the transfer roller has an elastic, deformable surface made of rubber.
- the doctor roller is made of metal.
- a device for the metered coating of a printing form inking application roller of a printing press with a liquid application medium is also known from DE-A-31 17 341.
- a transfer roller arranged in parallel and the surfaces of the application roller and the transfer roller having an at least approximately matching web speed
- DE-A-31 17 3421 In addition to an applicator roller and the transfer roller, it has a separate wetting roller.
- the wetting roller is arranged parallel to the transfer roller. It is in contact with it and the surfaces of the transfer roller and the wetting roller have approximately the same web speed.
- An engraving in the form of individual cells is provided in the transfer roller. When the transfer roller comes into contact with the wetting roller, these cells fill with the application medium.
- the wells are used for dosing the application agent.
- a doctor blade resting on the surface of the transfer roller is additionally provided.
- the scraper doctor strips the application medium from the transfer roller, which extends beyond the filling of the cups of the engraving of the transfer roller.
- the metered application medium is in turn transferred by contact to the application roller from the transfer roller.
- the design of the transfer roller of this known device which is also referred to as anilox roller, is comparatively complex.
- the transfer roller has a ceramic surface.
- the cups of the engraving of the transfer roller are lined with copper. From this it can be seen that the comparatively large transfer roller is a complex and therefore expensive component.
- the size of the transfer roller also affects its replacement to change the dosage of the application agent.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of demonstrating a device according to the preamble of claim 1 which has high wear resistance and at the same time the metering component is inexpensive to manufacture and easy to replace.
- doctor roller replaces the engraving of the known anilox roller and the doctor blade assigned to the anilox roller. Nevertheless, an exact and constant dosage of the application agent is achieved.
- the extensive and heavy transfer roller is advantageously designed as a smooth roller and thus independently of the respective dosage of the application agent. To change the dosage, only the comparatively thin doctor roller, whose diameter is typically 1 to 2 cm, has to be exchanged for another doctor roller with a different engraving.
- the suitable materials for the surface of the transfer roller are metals, ceramics or alloys, depending on the area of application of the device.
- the alloys include metallic and ceramic as well as metal-ceramic alloys.
- the selection of the material for the surface of the transfer roller in detail must take into account the abrasion resistance and the wetting properties of the material by the application agent.
- the surface of the doctor roller is made of a highly abrasion-resistant material, i.e. made of a ceramic.
- the engraving of the squeegee roller metering the application agent in the new device is of particular importance.
- wire doctor blades are known for less precise dosing of application agents when laminating paper, which consist of a core wrapped with wire, but they are not suitable for precise dosing of an application agent.
- profiles that have the shape of a rectangular or sine function in the axial cross section have proven to be suitable.
- the depth of the engraving is typically between 10 and 20 ⁇ m. This results in a film of the application medium with an average thickness of a few ⁇ m on the application roller. For example, this corresponds exactly to the requirements of offset printing.
- the surface of the doctor roller has a low web speed compared to the surface of the transfer roller. In principle, it therefore makes sense to assign a drive to the doctor roller so that it is evenly worn on all sides during its service life, which in turn can significantly increase the maximum service life.
- the web speed to be selected for the surface of the doctor roller no attempt should be made to achieve the web speed of the transfer roller. Given the circumferential conditions, this would mean an extreme speed of rotation for the doctor roller. It is also essential that this would impair the metering effect of the doctor roller.
- This results in a particularly precise metering of the application means if the surface of the doctor roller has a web speed opposite to the surface of the transfer roller.
- the dosage of the application agent as such can be adjusted within certain limits by changing the web speed of the doctor roller according to the amount and direction.
- the transfer roller in the new device is designed as a simple smooth roller.
- the friction between the transfer roller and the squeegee roller which is determined by the smoothness of the surface of the transfer roller, has a considerable influence on the wear of the squeegee roller and also that of the transfer roller itself their large diameters of less importance.
- the surface of the transfer roller has hydrophobic properties.
- the doctor roller can have a spiral-shaped engraving, which is composed of grooves running in the form of a ring or a combination of non-connected and non-rotating recesses.
- the distribution of the engraving on the surface of the doctor roller also influences the accuracy of the metering of the application agent. Furthermore, it goes into the distribution of the abrasion of the doctor roller and the transfer roller over their surfaces.
- the squeegee roller is intended for one-sided sealing of the container which contains the application agent.
- the entire container can only be sealed by sealing the rotating doctor roller.
- a largely closed system is provided for the free application medium.
- the container on the side opposite the doctor roller can be sealed against the transfer roller, for example with the aid of a locking bar.
- Such a sealed container can be placed anywhere on the outer circumference of the transfer roller.
- the application medium can be pressurized in the container in order to improve the desired wetting of the transfer roller with the application medium.
- the container can be divided in the axial direction of the doctor roller.
- the squeegee roller throughout.
- this facilitates their exchange, on the other hand, only a single drive for the doctor roller has to be present.
- Independent dosing of the individual application means for the different containers can, however, only be achieved with a doctor blade roller which is also divided.
- the device shown in Figure 1 for the metered coating of an application roller 2 is part of a printing press and can also be referred to as its inking unit.
- a transfer roller 1 is arranged parallel to the application roller 2 and is in contact with the application roller 2. The web speeds of the surfaces of the application roller 2 and the transfer roller 1 match.
- the transfer roller 1 is designed as a smooth roller, the surface of which dips into an application means 3 in a container 7.
- the container 7 has an inlet 8 for the application agent and is sealed off from the transfer roller 1 by a doctor roller 4 and a locking bar 6.
- the locking bar 6 and the doctor roller 4 are arranged one behind the other.
- the doctor roller 4 does not completely seal the container 7, but has an engraving through which a precisely metered amount of the application means 3 passes so that it remains on the surface of the transfer roller. This amount of application means 3 is then transferred from the transfer roller 1 to the application roller 2.
- the doctor roller 4 is assigned a drive, not shown here, with which it can be set in rotation at an adjustable speed and an adjustable direction of rotation.
- the rotational speed of the surface of the doctor roller 4 relative to the surface of the transfer roller 1 is to be adjusted in accordance with the accuracy of the metering of the application medium, but also of the dosage of the application medium as such. If the surfaces of the doctor roller 4 and the transfer roller 1 have a rectified web speed in the contact area, the metering of the application agent is comparatively high, whereas it is comparatively low with an opposing web speed. In this direction, however, the accuracy of the dosage increases.
- a seal 5 is provided which elastically and sealingly surrounds the doctor roller on the side opposite the transfer roller. The doctor roller 4 together with the container 7 is pressed with constant force against the transfer roller 2 by springs (not shown here) in order to ensure a constant distance between the surface of the transfer roller 2 and the engraved surface of the doctor roller 4.
- FIG. 3 An example of the engraving 9 of the doctor roller 4 can be seen in FIG. 3.
- the contact area between the doctor roller 4 and the transfer roller 1 is shown in a greatly enlarged longitudinal section.
- the actual depth of the engraving is 9 typically between 10 and 20 ⁇ m.
- a symbol 10 in FIG. 3 indicates the running direction of the surface of the transfer roller 1, which corresponds to the direction of exit of the application means 3 from the container 7 according to FIG.
- the contour of the engraving 9 according to FIG. 3 is sinusoidal. In this case, a single groove is provided which spirally surrounds the doctor roller 4. This leads to a more uniform abrasion of the transfer roller 1 than, for example, an engraving 9 made of annularly circumferential grooves.
- engravings with the shape of a rectangular function are also particularly suitable for the doctor roller 4.
- FIG. 4 Such an engraving is shown in FIG. 4, FIG. 4 showing an enlarged partial area of the surface of the doctor roller 4.
- the engraving 9 consists of non-contiguous and non-circumferential depressions which are delimited on all sides by webs 11. In certain cases, this makes it easier to seal the container 7 according to FIG. 2 in the area of the seal 5.
- the embodiment of the device for the metered coating of an application roller according to FIG. 5 differs from that according to FIGS. 1 and 2 by a subdivision of the container 7 in the axial direction of the doctor roller 4.
- the doctor roller 4 is designed to be continuous in order to facilitate its central exchange.
- a separate doctor roller with an engraving which determines the dosage must be provided for each sub-container 7'.
- a separate drive for each squeegee roller 4 of each sub-container 7 ' also allows dosing in each individual case also by the speed of rotation of the doctor rollers 4 to adjust sensitively.

Description
The invention relates to a device for the metered coating of an application roller with a liquid application agent according to the preamble of
A device according to the preamble of
A device for the metered coating of a printing form inking application roller of a printing press with a liquid application medium, the application roller being in contact with a transfer roller arranged in parallel and the surfaces of the application roller and the transfer roller having an at least approximately matching web speed, is also known from DE-A-31 17 341. In addition to an applicator roller and the transfer roller, it has a separate wetting roller. The wetting roller is arranged parallel to the transfer roller. It is in contact with it and the surfaces of the transfer roller and the wetting roller have approximately the same web speed. An engraving in the form of individual cells is provided in the transfer roller. When the transfer roller comes into contact with the wetting roller, these cells fill with the application medium. The wells are used for dosing the application agent. For this purpose, a doctor blade resting on the surface of the transfer roller is additionally provided. The scraper doctor strips the application medium from the transfer roller, which extends beyond the filling of the cups of the engraving of the transfer roller. The metered application medium is in turn transferred by contact to the application roller from the transfer roller. The design of the transfer roller of this known device, which is also referred to as anilox roller, is comparatively complex. For reasons of wear, the transfer roller has a ceramic surface. However, in order to ensure the desired wetting properties of the application agent on the transfer roller at the same time, the cups of the engraving of the transfer roller are lined with copper. From this it can be seen that the comparatively large transfer roller is a complex and therefore expensive component. The size of the transfer roller also affects its replacement to change the dosage of the application agent.
The invention is therefore based on the object of demonstrating a device according to the preamble of
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of
The suitable materials for the surface of the transfer roller are metals, ceramics or alloys, depending on the area of application of the device. The alloys include metallic and ceramic as well as metal-ceramic alloys. The selection of the material for the surface of the transfer roller in detail must take into account the abrasion resistance and the wetting properties of the material by the application agent.
The surface of the doctor roller is made of a highly abrasion-resistant material, i.e. made of a ceramic. The lower the abrasion of the doctor roller, the less the dosage of the application medium varies over the service life of the doctor roller.
The engraving of the squeegee roller metering the application agent in the new device is of particular importance. Thus, wire doctor blades are known for less precise dosing of application agents when laminating paper, which consist of a core wrapped with wire, but they are not suitable for precise dosing of an application agent. In particular, there is also a high level of wear on the wire and one which varies greatly with the service life of the wire doctor Dosage observed. This is countered here by a suitable choice of the engraving profile and the material forming the surface of the doctor roller. For example, profiles that have the shape of a rectangular or sine function in the axial cross section have proven to be suitable. The depth of the engraving is typically between 10 and 20 µm. This results in a film of the application medium with an average thickness of a few µm on the application roller. For example, this corresponds exactly to the requirements of offset printing.
The surface of the doctor roller has a low web speed compared to the surface of the transfer roller. In principle, it therefore makes sense to assign a drive to the doctor roller so that it is evenly worn on all sides during its service life, which in turn can significantly increase the maximum service life. With the web speed to be selected for the surface of the doctor roller, no attempt should be made to achieve the web speed of the transfer roller. Given the circumferential conditions, this would mean an extreme speed of rotation for the doctor roller. It is also essential that this would impair the metering effect of the doctor roller. This results in a particularly precise metering of the application means if the surface of the doctor roller has a web speed opposite to the surface of the transfer roller. In addition, the dosage of the application agent as such can be adjusted within certain limits by changing the web speed of the doctor roller according to the amount and direction.
As already stated, the transfer roller in the new device is designed as a simple smooth roller. The friction between the transfer roller and the squeegee roller, which is determined by the smoothness of the surface of the transfer roller, has a considerable influence on the wear of the squeegee roller and also that of the transfer roller itself their large diameters of less importance.
For easier transfer of the application medium from the transfer roller to the application roller, it is advantageous if the surface of the transfer roller has hydrophobic properties.
The doctor roller can have a spiral-shaped engraving, which is composed of grooves running in the form of a ring or a combination of non-connected and non-rotating recesses. The distribution of the engraving on the surface of the doctor roller also influences the accuracy of the metering of the application agent. Furthermore, it goes into the distribution of the abrasion of the doctor roller and the transfer roller over their surfaces.
However, there are special requirements for the engraving of the squeegee roller because the squeegee roller is intended for one-sided sealing of the container which contains the application agent. The entire container can only be sealed by sealing the rotating doctor roller. With the sealing of the container, however, a largely closed system is provided for the free application medium. The container on the side opposite the doctor roller can be sealed against the transfer roller, for example with the aid of a locking bar. Such a sealed container can be placed anywhere on the outer circumference of the transfer roller. Furthermore, the application medium can be pressurized in the container in order to improve the desired wetting of the transfer roller with the application medium.
In the case of wider transfer and application rollers and for applying different application means, the container can be divided in the axial direction of the doctor roller. However, it is advantageously provided the squeegee roller throughout. On the one hand, this facilitates their exchange, on the other hand, only a single drive for the doctor roller has to be present. Independent dosing of the individual application means for the different containers can, however, only be achieved with a doctor blade roller which is also divided.

The device shown in Figure 1 for the metered coating of an
This can be seen more precisely in FIG. 2. The
An example of the engraving 9 of the
Such an engraving is shown in FIG. 4, FIG. 4 showing an enlarged partial area of the surface of the
The embodiment of the device for the metered coating of an application roller according to FIG. 5 differs from that according to FIGS. 1 and 2 by a subdivision of the
