Description

The invention relates to an electrode support arm with a contact jaw at its free end for the current transfer to a clamped elongated electrode of an electric furnace.

According to the state of the art, a clamping bracket starting from the electrode support arm is provided for the clamping of the electrode and the associated pressing of the electrode against the contact jaw, which is tightened against the electrode with clamping means embedded in the electrode support arm. Since the mechanism for tensioning the clamping bracket and in particular then the unit required for this, as a rule a hydraulic cylinder, are accommodated in the electrode support arm, the electrode support arm must be dimensioned correspondingly voluminously (DE-A-34 43 574 and US-A-3,444,305). These systems then also prove to be unsuitable for the use of raw electrodes.

On the basis of the state of the art outlined above, the object of the invention is to propose a space-saving electrode support arm with an electrode clamp which also permits the use of raw electrodes.

The object is achieved with an electrode support arm, which is designed according to claim 1.

According to the invention, on the one hand in the contact jaw attached to the free end of the electrode support arm, projecting out of the contact jaw in the direction of the electrode, symmetrically inserted with respect to the longitudinal axis of the support arm, contact pieces are inserted with a contact surface adapted to the radius of the electrode and covering a partial area of the electrode circumference, and on the other hand an electrode mount in the form of a torsionally stiff bracket attached laterally to the free end of the electrode support arm, in which on the opposite side of the contact jaw, symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the support arm, two, at a distance from one another, in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the electrode, located, hydraulically actuated cylinders are embedded, the cylinder of which opposite piston rod, which is oriented in the contact jaw, runs out into a clamping piece that comes into contact with the electrode and fixes the electrode relative to the contact jaw gt. The clamping pieces preferably also have a contact surface adapted to the radius of the electrode.

From US-A-3,686,421 and 4,182,927 electrode clamps can already be seen, in which the electrode has a contact surface on the support arm side, in these cases a continuous, adapted to the radius of the electrode and covering a partial area of the electrode circumference by means of a contact jaw Contact jaw opposite side of the electrode clamping on the electrode acting, hydraulically actuated clamping jaw (a clamping shoe) is fixed. The contact jaw known from US-A-3,686,421 can also be mounted so that it can be adjusted in the electrode support arm. Allow these types of clamping however, not the use of raw electrodes, rather a high dimensional accuracy based on the electrode holder is absolutely necessary for the electrodes used here.

Even if, for safety reasons, preference is given to such tension cylinders, which engage under spring pressure and are disengaged by pressurization on the annulus side, the pressurizable cylinder on both sides does not rule out. A detachable embedding of the hydraulic cylinders causing the clamping of the electrode in the torsion-resistant bracket surrounding the electrode proves to be expedient.

The electrode clamping according to the invention makes it possible to provide electrode support arms with smaller cross sections, which is desirable on site due to the often cramped conditions. If necessary, the free space in the hollow electrode support arm is then also available for other purposes. The adjustment mechanism is less expensive. The cylinders provided according to the invention for clamping the electrode are otherwise easily accessible and can therefore be easily replaced if necessary. The new electrode clamping also opens up the possibility of using raw electrodes, i.e. electrodes whose outer surface has not been machined.

The contact jaw 12 is seated at the free end of the electrode support arm 11, in which contact pieces 121, 122 are mounted in an adjustable manner on a radius corresponding to the radius of the electrode 31 and symmetrically to the longitudinal axis 111 of the support arm. An integral part of the support arm 11 is furthermore the torsionally stiff bracket 21 attached to it laterally, in which cylinders 22, 23 are also embedded symmetrically to the support arm longitudinal axis 111, the piston rods 221 of which are oriented towards the center of the bracket 21 and into against the electrode 31 Run out coming clamping pieces 223 with a contact surface adapted to the electrode 31. The cylinder pistons 221 are trapped by a spring assembly 224, which cause the piston 221 to extend and thus cause the clamping pieces 223 to rest against the electrode 31 via the piston rod 222. To change the electrodes, the annular space 226 of the cylinder is pressurized via the pressure medium line 227, so that the piston retracts against the action of the spring assembly 224 and the clamping piece 223 lifts off the electrode 31. The pressure medium line 227 is guided along the electrode support arm 11 and further to the control station, from where the cylinders 22, 23 are actuated if necessary.

As can be seen from Figure 2, two cylinders, e.g. 23, 23 ', spaced from each other. This ensures the perpendicular orientation of the clamped electrode 31. In connection with adjustable contact pieces, e.g. 122, there is also the possibility of using non-rotated electrodes.
