Abstract

A method of sharpening the surfaces of the blade (6) of a machine (1) for cutting fabric by means of a grinding device (13) is specified. Starting from the bottom dead centre position (UT) of the tip (7) of the blade (6) during the cutting operation, a grinding device (13) arranged close to the holding-down device (9) is brought to bear against the surfaces of the blade (6) and activated. The blade (6) is then pulled out until the tip (7) is also ground by the grinding device (13). The grinding device (13) is then stopped and the blade (6) is put back into the cutting position. This procedure is regularly repeated and in addition takes place even if it is necessary to pull out the blade (6) for cutting reasons. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for grinding the knife surfaces of the knife of an fabric cutting machine that executes an oscillating lifting movement by means of a grinding device with the features of the preamble of claim 1.

The knives of fabric cutting machines such as butt knife machines or cutting heads are used to cut several layers of fabric in a layer package, the tip of the knife penetrating a support, usually a bristle band. The knife is subject to wear: it becomes dull, which is why it has to be sharpened to ensure a clean cut. For this purpose, the knife is completely lifted out of the layer package and the bristle band, if necessary. also above a hold-down device, as is usually provided. The grinding elements of a grinding device are then brought into abutment against the knife surfaces and a grinding process is initiated which consists in an oscillating lifting movement similar to that when cutting the layers of material. It should be noted that both knife surfaces must be ground, for which it is common to arrange grinding elements for the two knife surfaces offset one above the other or to cycle one knife surface with one stroke movement and the other knife surface with the other stroke movement.

The stroke movement of the knife during the cutting process is such that the knife tip is always within the bristle band. The length of the knife, however, depends largely on the thickness of the layer package to be cut. In the known procedure, it is therefore not sufficient to provide a single grinding device, since this can only grind a section of the knife that corresponds to the stroke of the oscillating stroke movement. It is therefore necessary to arrange at least two grinding devices one above the other, the The outer distance between the two grinding devices determines the maximum grinding length and the dimensions of the grinding devices must be such that the inner distance is less than the stroke. The consequence of this is that a considerable overall height may be required and a fabric cutting machine must be dimensioned according to the maximum grinding length. Retrofitting is not possible.

According to another idea, the grinding stroke could differ significantly from the cutting stroke and be such that the knife is guided past a grinding device over its entire length to be ground in the grinding stroke. However, this is hardly feasible due to the design, but at least it is too expensive for a practical machine, especially since it is not possible to adapt to different grinding heights.

It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method in which a safe grinding of the knife is ensured even with different grinding heights and despite a simple construction.

The object is achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1.

The invention is further developed by the features of the subclaims.

The basic idea of the invention is to subject knives to a grinding process each time they are pulled out, and this if necessary. to be repeated regularly and thereby to dispense with the oscillating lifting movement previously considered inevitable when grinding. Furthermore, it can be achieved that grinding operations are only carried out when this is absolutely necessary, whereby the service life of the knife is significantly increased. Finally, when changing the grinding length, it is only necessary to provide a longer knife, this one Grinding length allows and to ensure that this longer knife can actually be pulled out above the hold-down.

  • Fig. 1 ein Messer mit zugeordneter Schleifvorrichtung zum einen in Schneidstellung und zum anderen in der angehobenen das Schleifen der Messerspitze ermöglichenden Stellung;
  • Fig. 2 schematisch eine Skizze zur Erläuterung der Orte, an denen ein Schleifen erfolgt;
The invention is explained schematically in more detail using an exemplary embodiment. Show it:
  • 1 shows a knife with an associated grinding device on the one hand in the cutting position and on the other hand in the raised position enabling the sharpening of the knife tip;
  • 2 schematically shows a sketch to explain the places where grinding takes place;
  • Fig. 3 shows schematically in supervision the formation of a belt grinding device for grinding both knife surfaces

Fig. 1 zeigt in Seitenansicht schematisch die wesentlichen Elemente einer Stoffschneidemaschine 1 an sich bekannter Bauart, bei deren Einsatz beim Schneiden (linker Teil) sowie bei deren Einsatz beim Schleifen (rechter Teil).Fig. 1 shows a schematic side view of the essential elements of a fabric cutting machine 1 of known design, when used for cutting (left part) and when used for grinding (right part).

A package 3 consisting of several layers of fabric 4 rests on a base formed as a bristle band 2, the layers 4 of the package 3 being cut according to a predetermined cutting pattern. In a known and not shown manner, a negative pressure is generated via the bristle band 2, and an air-impermeable film lies on the uppermost layer 4 of the package 3. As a result, a stiff package 3 is produced, which can be easily cut by means of the fabric cutting machine 1.

OT. The fabric cutting machine 1 has a knife 6 held in a holder 5, which by means of a drive device, not shown, which also the holder 5 and thus the Knife 6 holds, can be moved up and down. The upper position of the bracket 5 is shown by chain lines. The upper position of the tip 7 of the knife 6 is also shown by chain lines. In a known manner, one speaks at the two reversal points of a lower and an upper dead center UT or OT. The knife 6 thus executes a stroke 8. The fabric cutting machine 1 also has a hold-down device 9 which has an opening 10 through which the knife 6 passes. On the hold-down device 9, conventional guides 11 are provided in the region of this opening 10.

In the operating state in the left half of FIG. 1, in which the layers 4 are cut, the knife 6 is lowered in such a way that its tip 7 is inside the bristle band 2 even at top dead center OT. In the position corresponding to the bottom dead center UT of the knife tip 7, a support device 12 for a schematically illustrated grinding device 13 is provided between the hold-down device 9 and the holder 5 of the knife 6. The grinding device 13 has drive connections (not shown in more detail) for an actuating device and an actuating device.

This results in a required knife length, which is the sum of the layer thickness 14, the distance 15 between the underside of the hold-down device and the underside of the holder 5 in the position of the knife tip 7 corresponding to bottom dead center UT, and the distance 16 between the top of the bristle band 2 and corresponds to the position of the bottom dead center UT of the knife tip 7. It turns out that, with the rest of the same construction, only the layer thickness 14 is variable in size.

During the cutting process, a feed takes place in the direction of arrow V of the fabric cutting machine 1 in the position shown in the left half, an oscillating stroke movement taking place over the stroke 8 of the lowered knife 6 pierced through all layers 4 of the package 3 and into the bristle band 2 .

When cutting, the knife is subject to wear over a section which corresponds to the sum of the layer thickness 14 and the distance 16. This section, which will be called the grinding length below, must be ground so that a safe and clean cut is possible.

According to the invention, the stroke movement of the knife 6 is stopped at the bottom dead center UT in the inserted state, the grinding device 13 is moved to bear against the knife surfaces of the knife 6 and the grinding process is started up. Starting from this position, the knife 6 is pulled out, as shown in the right half in FIG. 1, and moved with grinding by the grinding device 13, namely until the knife tip 7 is also ground, since this is necessary. The knife 6 is then lowered again into the position shown in the left half in FIG. 1. This is preferably repeated regularly, and in any case whenever the knife has to be lifted out of the cutting position, for example at corners of a predetermined cutting pattern, in which a rotation of the fabric cutting machine 1 outside the package 3 is required. In addition, the grinding process is repeated regularly after a predetermined and programmable cutting time.

This is explained with reference to FIG. 2. After a grinding process at point 17, the knife 6 is lowered again into the package 3, carries out a cutting movement over a distance a, is pulled out there in the manner explained and thereby ground by means of the grinding device 13 and lowered again at this point 18. This will, if necessary. repeated several times. When a corner 19 is reached, when the knife 6 is pulled out, it is also ground in the manner described, the fabric cutting machine 1 is rotated into the position represented by a non-hatched wedge and lowered again, whereupon a new cutting process takes place a distance a, which is also repeated. As shown, the measurement of the distance a is advantageously restarted with each new plunge cut, such as at point 19.

This distance a can be determined by counting the lifting cycles when cutting, by evaluating a period of time during cutting, but also by simply measuring the length. It depends on the consistency of the bristles and especially the layers 4 of the package 3 and the thickness 14 of the package. In practice, values of 2 to 4 m are expedient for distance a.

As explained with reference to FIG. 1, it is also necessary to grind the knife tip 7. On the one hand, this can be done by lifting the knife 6 so far without an additional stroke that the grinding device 13 also reaches the knife tip 7. This can also be achieved, as shown in FIG. 1 in the right section thereof, by additionally carrying out a single lifting movement when the knife 6 is raised, during which the knife tip 7 from its bottom dead center UT in its top dead center shown in broken lines TDC arrives and is ground by the grinding device 13.

It also shows that only a single effective grinding device 13 has to be provided, the overall height of which can be made as low as possible. It is only necessary to ensure that both knife surfaces can be ground. Such a grinding device 13 of low overall height is, for example, a roll grinding device or a belt grinding device, as is shown schematically in FIG. 3.

Wird dann das Messer 6 aus der in Fig. 1 in deren linken Abschnitt gezeigten Lage nach oben gezogen, erfolgt das Schleifen der beiden Messerflächen 21 und 22.3 shows in cross section the blade of the knife 6 with the two knife surfaces 21 and 22 to be sharpened, two endless grinding belts 23 and 24 being arranged one above the other by means of a schematically illustrated respective eccentric roller 25 or 26 are pressed against the knife surfaces 21, 22. The sanding belts 25, 26 also run over deflection rollers 27, 28 and 29, 30, respectively. During the cutting operation, by loosening the eccentric rollers 25, 26, the grinding belt 23 or 24 is out of contact with the knife surfaces 21 and 22 of the knife 6. When the grinding process is triggered, ie when the knife 6 is pulled out, the two eccentric rollers 25, 26 become Adjusting devices, not shown, are deflected such that the grinding belts 23 and 24 come into abutment against the knife surfaces 21 and 22, respectively. At the same time, each grinding belt 23 or 24 is set in motion by a drive device, also not shown, ie the grinding device 13 is put into operation. If the knife 6 is then pulled upward from the position shown in FIG. 1 in its left section, the two knife surfaces 21 and 22 are ground.

If the static conditions, in particular the knife stiffness, allow the grinding device to remain in operation even when the knife 6 is lowered again, this is however not absolutely necessary. Rather, the distance a can be determined accordingly so that there is always sufficient sharpness of the knife 6.

It follows from the above that a grinding stroke can be changed in a simple manner only by exchanging knives, since, as mentioned, a change in grinding length is only required if the thickness 14 of the package 3 is changed. In the case of the fabric cutting machine 1, it is only necessary to note that the stroke when pulling out is sufficient to pull the knife 6 out completely.

The knife life can be increased because it is easy to optimize the intervals a at which the regular grinding takes place.
