Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of doors and windows, in particular of the metallic type. More precisely, the invention relates to a rotational support for an opening handle for doors, windows and the like.
  • opening and closing handles and relative support mechanisms and connection to doors and to the corresponding command mechanisms of the fastenings have a fundamental importance.
  • rotation which in general do not exceed 30°, the clearing of the lock and the opening of the door which turns about a support hinge is obtained.
  • handles are connected directly to the lock by means of prismatic pivots supporting the entire load that the user transmits to the door, the handles being fixed to said pivots by means of blocking pins.
  • Other types of handles turn in supports secured to the doors in correspondence with the lock, and the prismatic pivot has only the burden of transmitting the rotation of the handle to the lock itself, while the support holds all the other loads.
  • its non-free end is riveted during assembly to the support itself or, alternatively, the non-free end of the handle is threaded in order to screw a locking nut on to it.
  • the handle In the case of the head riveted in the assembly step, it is not possible in a successive step to dismount the handle from the support, for example for possible future surface treatments and coloration of the handle. In the case, on the other hand, of the threaded head and locking nut, the handle requires greater processing and therefore is more expensive.
  • Handles of this type and the relative supports now known also do not allow for the inversion between right-hand and left-hand mounting of said handle requiring the assembly of handles with either "right” or “left” type supports to be applied correspondingly to the two opposite faces of the door.
  • One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a support for handles of doors, windows and the like wherein the handle is of both easy construction and easy dismountability from the support itself, i.e. for surface treatment and coloration after assembly or successive inversions between left and right-hand mounting.
  • a second object of the present invention is to provide an easily anchorable support for handles of doors, windows and the like, in particular those made of metallic sections, and adaptable to each of the above-described interaxes.
  • a further object of the present invention is to provide a fixing insert for handle supports which is quick and simple to mount.
  • the handle support which comprises a rotational housing for the neck of the handle, means for the elastic recovery of the handle to a resting position and means of anchorage to the door.
  • the support is characterized in that a first and a second half-bushing in antifriction material are engaged reciprocally to form the rotational housing and are engaged in two cavities formed in the two opposite faces of a rigid support plate.
  • the support plate and each of the two above-mentioned half-bushings each have a central elongated hole for the introduction, during the mounting step, of a head projecting from the neck of the handle.
  • the means of elastic recovery of the handle comprises a first sliding block counteracted by a spring against which the head formed on the neck of the handle is engaged; a second block acts as a limit stop in the return movement of the handle. Both blocks are connected slidingly to the second half-bushing and are therefore dismountable and interchangeable so that the mounting of the handle in either a right-hand or left-hand position according to the side of the door to be mounted is easily allowed for.
  • the anchorage of the support to the door is facilitated by threaded inserts which are introduced into holes made on the door and tightened by means of screws which cause the insert to expand inside the hole thus creating a permanent, non dismountable anchorage.
  • anchorages with different interaxes are possible.
  • a support according to the invention for an opening handle 1 of a door, window and the like comprises a rigid plate 2 with cavities 2a and 2b wherein a first half-bushing 3 and a second half-bushing 4 are engaged. More precisely the half-bushing 3 presents projections 5a and 5b suitable for being engaged in cavity 2a formed in the plate 2 in order to prevent tangential displacements with respect to the plate whereas the half-bushing 4 is shaped to enter cavity 2b with precision.
  • the half-bushings 3 and 4 have a substantially flat form with projections 5 and 6 in the form of portions of cylindrical shell respectively able to be reciprocally engaged after mounting on the plate 2 to form a cylindrical seat of rotation for a neck 8 extending from the end 1a of the handle 1.
  • the half-bushings 3 and 4 are advantageously made of anti-friction material and present slot holes, respectively 9 and 10, for allowing the introduction of a head 11 which projects from the neck 8 of the handle 1 and presents two projections 11a and 11b extending in a direction orthogonal to the rotational axis of the neck 8.
  • a slot hole 12 is provided for the introduction of the head 11 and has a circular central part for the introduction of the semicylindrical shell portions 5 and 6 of the half-bushings 3 and 4.
  • the slot holes 9, 10 and 12 of the half-bushings 3, 4 and of the plate 2 respectively, have a form which allows the introduction of the head 11 of the handle 1 but does not allow disengaging after the handle 1 has effected a relative rotation of 90° with respect to them, whereby the projections 11a and 11b abut against the edges of the circular central part of the above-mentioned holes.
  • the support according to the invention also comprises a first block 13 with which a spring 14 is engaged and is provided with a protrusion 15 having a T-shaped transversal section able to engage with a corresponding guide 16 made in the half-bushing 4.
  • Another guide 16 is created on the opposite side of the half-bushing 4 and is able to engage with a protrusion 17 also having a T-shaped transversal section made in a block 18.
  • the support according to the invention also comprises a protective cover 19 having a hole 20 for its introduction onto the handle 1 and of the same form as the first half-bushing 3, as well as teeth 21 shown on the internal sides of the cover 19 itself for engaging with corresponding notches 22 made on the corresponding external faces of the plate 2.
  • means of anchorage are provided for comprising threaded inserts 23 having squared heads 24 and shanks 25 with internally threaded ends 25a and a central part 25b having thin walls.
  • the square heads 24 of the inserts 23 are able to engage with a rectangular groove 26 made on the face 2a of the plate 2.
  • On the groove 26 a couple of through holes 27 is also made, each couple formed by two intersecting parallel holes and having a flared opening, as can be seen in figures 1 and 3.
  • the mounting of the handle 1 in the support according to the invention is effected as follows: the head 11 of the handle 1 is introduced into the hole 9 of the first half-bushing 3 and is turned by 90° with respect to it.
  • the half-bushing 4, to which blocks 13 and 18 have been previously connected by engaging the T-shaped protrusions 15 and 17 respectively in the guides 16, is then introduced into the cavity 2b of the plate 2 together with the spring 14 which engages in block 13.
  • the head 11 of handle 1 is introduced into slot hole 12 of the plate 2 and into slot hole 10 of the second half-bushing 4.
  • a second rotation of 90° is imposed to the handle 1 in order to prevent the disengagement of the head 11 from the holes 10 and 12 in that the projections 11a and 11b abut against the edges of the circular portions of the holes 10 and 12 themselves.
  • the projection 11a of the head 11 of the handle 1 is inserted between the second block 18 and the first block 13, causing a displacement of the block 13 in the direction of compression of spring 14 so that the projection 11a, during the above-mentioned 90° rotation, comes in contact with it, as shown with a dashed line in figure 3, and arranges itself definitively in the position indicated with a continuous line in the same figure.
  • the support according to the invention is therefore ready to be mounted on a door 28 by means of the threaded inserts 23 and screws 29, as shown in detail in figure 7.
  • the inserts 23 are arranged so that the squared head 24 inserts itself in the groove 26, and afterwards the screws 29 are introduced into the holes 27 of the plate 2 and their ends are screwed into the inserts 23 without effecting a forced grip.
  • the support complete with handle, screws and inserts is moved close to the door 28 on which holes 30 have been drilled in advance, placing the support so that the inserts 23 enter said holes 30.
  • the fastening of the screw 29 which screws into the threaded shank 25a of the insert 23 is carried out and the forced traction effected causes the thin wall of the portion of the shank 25b to bend.
  • the inserts 23 can not turn about their axis because their squared heads 24, being engaged in the groove 26, do not allow said rotation. Consequently a mountable permanent forced connection is created between inserts 23 and the door 30, whereas the support for the handle 1, or alternatively the plate 2, can be easily unscrewed for any necessity by means of the screws 29.
  • connection between the handle 1 and the lock, which is not shown and is applied to the door 28, is made by a prismatic pivot which is also not shown and is housed in hole 8a coaxial to neck 8 of the handle 1 whereby, imparting a downward rotation to the handle 1, the opening of the lock, as well known, is automatically commanded.
  • the neck 8 is engaged within the cylindrical shell formed by the fitted portions of the shells 5 and 6 respectively of the half-bushings 3 and 4 which, being made in antifriction and wearproof material assure a perfect rotation of the handle 1 about its axis.
  • the neck 8 is delimitated on one side by the head 11 and on the other side by a shoulder 1a, coincident with the attachment end of the neck 8 to the handle 1.
  • the head 11 and the shoulder 1a during the rotation slide against the corresponding sides respectively of the second half-bushing 4 and the first half-bushing 3 whereby the rotation of the handle 1 is totally guided without possibility of oscillation or vibration and with the single possibility of turning about the axis of the handle itself.
  • the support according to the invention can be provided for already assembled in its components and from it the handle can be dismounted easily for coloration or surface treatments to be carried out successively; it is also possible to convert the support for the handle from "right-hand” mounting to "left-hand” mounting on a door by simply dismounting the handle 1 from its support and interchanging the blocks 13 and 18.
  • the handle 1 cannot be dismounted from the support when the support is anchored to the door and the handle is engaged in the lock. This is because locks do not allow in general a rotation greater than 30° and therefore the projection 11a remains constantly engaged against the block 13, which returns the handle to the horizontal position after it has been released.
  • the remounting of the handle is easily effected as indicated above.
  • the same support can be used when the interaxis has two different values. Since in Europe the two standardized and widespread interaxes are of 43 and 50 mm., the support according to the invention can be used with said interaxes for almost all applications.
  • the fixing operations become greatly simplified and using a standardized drilling jig which executes the holes 30 on the door and mounting the support according to the invention as indicated above, a considerable amount of time by those who must carry out said mounting can be saved.
  • the possibility of inverting the handle allows for the right or left mounting of said support without the need of two supports respectively "right” and "left".
  • the support according to the invention presents therefore multiple aspects which render the mounting quicker and easier and determine a precise and secure manoeuvrability of the handle.
