Definitions
- the present invention relates to female electrical contact members.
- female electrical contact members having a U-shaped body with a core and two wings and provided, at one end, with means for the connection of at least one electrical conductor, while the other end comprises two contact strips extending the wings, said bars being protected by tongues extending over their entire length on the side of the corresponding external face.
- German Patent No. 1,811,276 relates to an electrical contact member of the above type.
- the contact member of this patent has, on the lateral edge of the bars, turned towards the side of a bottom wall, centering nozzles which are engaged in openings in the bottom wall in order to keep the bars apart. one from the other with a certain tension.
- the contact bars when engaging a male member, for example, a flat bar or a printed circuit, tend to move away from one another by pinching said male member. If, the latter has a relatively thick section, the free ends of the bars bear against the tabs so that the insertion may require significant effort, in addition, there may be a deformation of the bars, the bending being then modified and the male organ which may not be pinched enough.
- One of the aims of the present invention is to remedy this drawback.
- the electrical contact member is of the type formed by a body made of a material that is good conductor of electricity, said body being cut and folded to assume the shape of a U with a core and two wings, one end of said body being shaped to present means for fixing it to an electrical conductor, while at its other end, the wings of the U are extended, on the one hand, by two contact strips intended to clamp elastically a corresponding male contact member, such as a printed circuit or a flat bar and, on the other hand, at their free end, by a tongue extending over the entire length of the corresponding contact bar and folded to be disposed on the side of the external face of said corresponding contact strip, said contact strips each having a lug while the tongues have corresponding slots, said contact member being characterized in that the lugs are located at the free terminal ends of the contact strips and lights in the vicinity of the free ends of the tabs.
- each lug is terminated by a beveled end and its length is such that it cannot protrude from the external lateral surface of the corresponding tongue.
- the free ends of the strips are terminated by folded flaps to extend between the contact strips to hide the lugs.
- the tongues each have, in the vicinity of their end opposite their free end, a stamped bearing against a corresponding stamped wings.
- each contact strip in the vicinity of its free end and on the side of its face turned opposite the other, is provided with a boss.
- the free ends of the tongues are slightly closer to each other than the ends opposite to said free ends.
- Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank cut to form the contact member according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the contact member during folding.
- Figure 3 is a perspective view of the finished contact member.
- Figure 4 is a plan view partially in section showing the contact member provided with a corresponding male member.
- the contact member shown in the figures is made of a metal strip that is good conductor of electricity and has a certain elasticity.
- the strip is cut to present a body 1 with at one end two tabs 2 intended to be crimped onto a conductor and in the vicinity of these two tabs, two other tabs 4 intended to be crimped onto a stripped end of said conductor.
- Crimping lugs are shown here arranged in the axis of the contact member, but of course these can be arranged differently, for example, in the form of a flag.
- the body 1 On the side opposite the legs 2, the body 1 is cut to present two bars 6 and 7 and two tongues 5 and 8 extending parallel to each other and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body 1.
- a wide opening 9 in the bottom of which is cut a plate 10 intended to constitute a stop.
- the tongue 5 has, at its free end, two notches 11 and is separated from the bar 6 by a slot 12, the bottom of which forms a wider notch 13.
- the tongue near its free end, is provided with an opening 14.
- the tongue 8 is separated from the bar 7 by a slot 17, the bottom of which forms a wide notch 18.
- the tongue 8 is pierced with an opening 19 in the vicinity of its free end which has two notches 20.
- the free edge of the tongue 5 is intended to be folded to form a flange 5 a , while the part of the free end situated between the two notches 11 is folded to form a flap 5 b and the edge adjacent to the slot 12 is folded to form a ledge 5 c .
- the strip 6 is intended to form one of the contact strips and has a length and a width corresponding to the space delimited by the flanges 5 a and 5 c and the flap 5 b .
- the tongue 8 is identical to the tongue 5 and has flanges 8 a and 8 c and a flap 8 b .
- the flaps 5 b and 8 b constitute a protection for the bars 6 and 7, the ends turned opposite one another being bevelled.
- the strip 7 has the same dimensions as the strip 6 and constitutes a contact strip.
- the free ends of the contact strips respectively comprise notches 21 and 22 which define lugs, respectively 6a and 7a and in the tabs 5 and 8 are formed of slots 24 and 25 having dimensions sufficient to be traversed by pins 6 a and 7 a .
- the body 1 is folded into a U to present a core 1 a and two wings 1 b and 1 c , while the plate 10 is folded at 90 ° so as to extend in the core of the U substantially perpendicular thereto.
- the two contact strips 6 and 7 coming to be located opposite one another by extending the wings 1b and 1c and the facing faces said bars being convex so that the lugs 6a and 7a extend in diverging directions, the bosses 26 being overlooked.
- the end of the tongue 5 adjacent to the tab 4 has a stamped 27 intended to bear against a corresponding stamped 28 of the wing 1b , corresponding stampings being formed on the tongue 8 and the wing 1c .
- the tongue 5 is folded along a line extending the slot 12 so as to extend on the side of the external face of the contact strip 6.
- the tongue 8 is folded in the same way as the tongue 5 so as to extend on the side of the external face of the contact strip 7.
- the lugs 6 a and 7 a are bevelled at their free end and their length is such that when they are engaged in the corresponding slots 24 and 25, they do not protrude from the external lateral surface of the corresponding tongues 5 and 8.
- a female contact member is thus produced which offers great safety in use.
- this member when this member is inserted into a housing, the contact strips 6 and 7 are protected and do not risk being deformed.
- the flaps 5 b and 8 b protect the pins 6 a and 7 a against improper introduction of the male organ and delimit the maximum section, from which the establishment of a male organ is not possible (see figure 4).
- the stampings 27, 28, 29 and 30 increase the rigidity of the entire contact member.
- the ends of the tongues 5 and 8 adjacent to the flaps 5 b and 8 b respectively are slightly closer together. on the other that the ends adjacent to the stampings 27 and 30.
