  • parallel resonance circuits are formed corresponding to coaxial resonators where the inner conductor is the coating in the hole and the outer conductor the coating covering the outer surfaces of the block, whereby the field energy exists in the dielectric material.
  • Each resonator thus comprises a shorted transmission line, because the coating at the bottom of each hole directly joins the coating of the outer surface of the block.
  • At the top of the transmission line there is a load capacitance consisting of the capacitance between the top of the hole and the coating on the outer surface of the block.
  • the resonators in the row are like the teeth in a comb, joined by the continuous coating on the bottom surface of the block, hence the term comb filter.
