- the major drawback of the dynamic mixers of the prior art lies in the fact that after extraction of the mixed product from said mixing chamber, a certain amount of said mixed product remains in the chamber and, after a while, changes state under the effect of the chemical reaction.
- the time required for this change can be very variable, depending on the components used as well as the surrounding conditions; this duration can thus be less than a minute or more than an hour. Therefore, each time the device is stopped for a time greater than the time necessary for the initiation or the completion of the chemical reaction, whether because of the shutdown of the production machine arranged downstream , or due to a temporary absence of the operator, it is necessary to dismantle the dynamic mixer and completely clean the mixing chamber as well as the extraction orifice, in order to remove all the particles of mixed product that have hardened. This cleaning operation can be long and dangerous due to the use of the products or solvents necessary for this purpose.
- US-A-4,951,843 describes a mixing device comprising a removable mixing chamber portion; a drawback of this device lies in the fact that the mixing blade is independent of the chamber, thereby necessitating separate cleaning of the mixing blade, of the removable portion of the chamber as well as of the non-removable bottom portion of the mixing device. Another drawback of this device is that the components to be mixed are introduced longitudinally through the non-removable bottom portion at a place where the mixing paddle has little effectiveness, thus creating an area where the components mix poorly.
- a first object of the invention is to propose a method making it possible to facilitate or even eliminate this cleaning operation, this object being obtained by a method corresponding to the characteristics of claim 1.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a method allowing, by judiciously arranging the component inlet ports in the mixing chamber, to obtain efficient mixing without creating a dead zone; this object is obtained, according to several construction variants, by the characteristics of claims 2 to 6.
- Yet another object of the invention is to provide a dynamic mixing device capable of carrying out the mixing method according to the invention, which meets the characteristics of claim 7, while a detachable cartridge intended to be used by the device below above, comprises, for several variant embodiments, the characteristics of claims 8 to 13.

- Component tanks 10 and 12 as well as volumetric dosers 11 and 13 forming part of the state of the technique are not further described here; one can only indicate that they are responsible for supplying the dynamic mixer 2, by its supply orifices 20A and 20B, by component A, respectively B, continuously, intermittently or on demand, being controlled by a device automatic control also part of the prior art and not shown in the figure.
- the metering devices are of the volumetric type as indicated, they are more generally product distributors known in the art, for example of the volumetric type as shown or of the timed type or else known type; on the other hand, each of said product distributors can be made up of a single element, grouping together the product tank and the metering device.
- the dynamic mixer as well as the product distributors can also be made up in a single element, thus eliminating the flexible connecting pipes.
- said installation can be intended to mix more than two components, thereby requiring more than two product distributors.
- the dynamic mixer 2 comprises a portion of fixing body, preferably consisting of a first portion of fixed body 21B, and a second portion of movable body 21A, the two body portions being connected by a hinge 22 and can therefore be opened, as shown in the figure, or closed as indicated by the arrow.
- a locking device 23, of known execution, is arranged on the faces of the two portions opposite to those comprising the hinge 22, in order to ensure closing and locking the two body portions 21A and 21B.
- the body portion 21A and the body portion 21B each comprise a housing, preferably of semi-cylindrical shape 24A, respectively 24B which, when the two portions 21A and 21B are folded over one another, face each other so to compose a housing preferably cylindrical, extending over the entire height of the two said portions.
- the upper face of each of the portions 21A and 21B comprises a recess 25A, respectively 25B, the usefulness of which will be explained below.
- Each of the portions 21A and 21B further comprises a pipe 26A, respectively 26B, connected on one side to the inlet orifices 20A, respectively 20B and each opening by a nozzle 27A, respectively 27B in the side wall of the semi-cylindrical housing 24A , respectively 24B.
- the mixing chamber of the dynamic mixing device consists of a detachable cartridge 3, consisting of a hollow envelope body 30, preferably of cylindrical shape, but which can be of any other suitable shape and the dimensions of which external correspond to the dimensions of the housing disposed in the fixing portion, respectively whose external diameter corresponds to the internal diameter of the cylindrical housing formed by the two semi-cylindrical housings 24A and 24B and whose height corresponds approximately to that of said cylindrical housing.
- the hollow envelope body 30 has its open upper end, a flange 31, of any section but not circular, extending transversely out of the upper end of the hollow envelope body 30.
- the shape of the flange 31 is adapted to that of the hollows 25A and 25B, so that said hollow casing body is firmly held inside the cylindrical housing when the two portions 21A and 21B are closed, and that said hollow envelope body can easily be inserted into, or extracted from said cylindrical housing when the two portions 21A and 21B are open.
- Two orifices 32A and 32B (better visible in FIG. 2), corresponding to the nozzles 27A and 27B, are adjusted to the dimensions of said nozzles and put them in connection with the inner part of said hollow casing body.
- the lower end of the hollow casing body 30 is closed for the most part, leaving just an outlet orifice 33 also formed in the nozzle.
- a stirring device 34 consisting of a body with a cylindrical axis 35, of diameter slightly less than the inside diameter of the hollow casing body 30, surmounted by a drive head 36, which may for example be of cylindrical shape, of larger diameter, so that a portion of the ring formed by the outer part of the lower surface of said drive head can rest on the upper face of the flange 31.
- a diametrical slot 37 is provided on the upper face of the drive head 36, in order to drive said stirring device in rotation, as indicated below.
- One or more mixing blades 38 are fixed to the lower part of the body of cylindrical axis 35, so as to best use the mixing space located in the lower part of the hollow casing body 30.
- annular seal 39 fixed close to the lower part of the body of cylindrical axis 35, is intended to seal between the mixing space and the portion of casing body disposed above said mixing space; the annular seal 39 must also allow the rotation of the cylindrical axis body 35 inside the hollow envelope body 30.
- the detachable cartridge 3 is made of a material resistant to the components to be mixed as well as to the finished product; since it is generally disposable after use, as will be seen below, it can be made of a cheaper material, possibly only resistant for a limited period to the products mentioned above.
- the dimensions of the stirring space must be adapted to the amount of product required, this amount can be as small as a few hundredths of a milliliter.
- the dynamic mixer 2 is completed with a drive part 4, visible in FIG. 1, comprising a motor 40, driving an axis 41 by means, for example, of a set of pulleys and belt 42.
- the lower part of the axis 41 is provided with a drive end 43, comprising a tongue 44 capable of engaging in the diametrical slot 37 of the drive head 36.
- This drive part 4 is relatively conventional, this is why it is not described more precisely here; the motor 40 is preferably an electric motor controlled by the automatic control device mentioned above.

- the inlet orifices of the components in the cartridge may not be necessary for the inlet orifices of the components in the cartridge to be arranged in successive planes; in this case they could be arranged side by side in the same plane.
- the radial entry of the components can sometimes prove to be unsuitable for proper control of the process; in this case, the orifices can be designed so that the components do not penetrate radially but obliquely, preferably directed towards the bottom of the mixing chamber.
- Another variant of the device described comprises an improvement making it easier to introduce the tongue 44 of the drive end 43 into the slot 37 of the drive head 36, by providing that said drive end is sliding on the axis 41.
- the method, the mixing device and the cartridge according to the invention therefore make it possible to facilitate the use of products with several components in avoiding the operation of cleaning the mixing chamber of the mixer after a shutdown for a certain period, thus leading to an increase in the production rate, respectively a reduction in production costs.
