- a decorative member according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from document FR-A-1 535 668.
- This decorative member comprises a linear element which is cut to lengths and adhered to the surface of a window to create a pattern resembling that of a french window.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a decorative member which requires less installation effort, and which can be used to provide any desired pattern. This is accomplished by a decorative member having the features of claim 1.

- the design of the decorative member is based on the idea that within a decorative tile, the lines that create the geometric pattern or picture design on the whole solid tile are themselves the main and important factor in giving the tile that decorative look. It is these lines that are extracted to form the main component of the decorative member, where as the non-decorative, plain areas of the tile are removed. For example, in the simple use of a solid rectangular tile that has a grid lined pattern design, the plain rectangular areas between the grids are discarded and the main decorative factor of the grid lines will become the main body of the decorative member to create a decorative grid line tile made entirely out of lines.
- one of the aims is to eliminate wide straight edges and to have a minimum of outer limits for contact with other decorative member with no gaps between decorative members so as to not to make each decorative member so apparent, as is more apparent with conventional tiles using grout, and minimize the breaks in the continuity of a geometric pattern, text or simple picture tiling.
- the decorative member is constructed from flexible base materials with the upper side of lines not of a flat shape and flat under side lines supporting the adhesive film where make the decorative member self adhesive that can be fixed to glass, mirror and transparent plastic as visibility between the lines of the tile is possible and can be used on auto glass and glass of marine vessels such as windows and wind screens.
- the decorative member can be affixed to walls, ceilings, wooden or metal panels and other surfaces, flat or curved to produce a textured or contoured effect for decorative purposes.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a decorative member in accordance with the invention showing the elements that may be of the same or different shapes which constitutes the whole of the decorative member.
- Figure 2 shows a side view of the tile indicating the shape of the lines and thickness and also the backing sheet to the flat side of the tile.
- Figure 3 shows the decorative member connected to other similar decorative member by the outer limits for contact to produce a picture design of a larger area, displaying little or no apparent gaps or interruption in its creation.
- the figures show a tile (1) made up of elements (2) that ma be of same or different shapes, with alignment spacer elements (6) that keeps the lines at the desired spacings.
- the whole of decorative member is supported by a backing sheet (4) of the shape that covers the elements that make up the decorative member and protects the adhesive at the back of the decorative member (3).
- the decorative member is shown connected to similar decorative members with no gaps between decorative members at the outer limits (5) for contact to produce a larger tiled area displaying little or no apparent interruption in its application.

Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to a decorative member made of elements designed to give yet another alternative to the solid conventional tile.
- A decorative member according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from document FR-A-1 535 668. This decorative member comprises a linear element which is cut to lengths and adhered to the surface of a window to create a pattern resembling that of a french window.
- The object of the present invention is to provide a decorative member which requires less installation effort, and which can be used to provide any desired pattern. This is accomplished by a decorative member having the features of claim 1. The use of detachable alignment spacers ensures that when the decorative member is removed from the backing sheet, the design is maintained in its intended form.
- In the design of the decorative member, one of the aims is to eliminate wide straight edges and to have a minimum of outer limits for contact with other decorative member with no gaps between decorative members so as to not to make each decorative member so apparent, as is more apparent with conventional tiles using grout, and minimize the breaks in the continuity of a geometric pattern, text or simple picture tiling.
- There are areas for attachments of small lights or reflectors that can be used for specialized decorative effects.
- The decorative member can be affixed to walls, ceilings, wooden or metal panels and other surfaces, flat or curved to produce a textured or contoured effect for decorative purposes.
- One way of carrying out the invention is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
The whole of decorative member is supported by a backing sheet (4) of the shape that covers the elements that make up the decorative member and protects the adhesive at the back of the decorative member (3). In accordance with the invention, the decorative member is shown connected to similar decorative members with no gaps between decorative members at the outer limits (5) for contact to produce a larger tiled area displaying little or no apparent interruption in its application.
Claims (2)
- A decorative member, comprising a plurality of elements formed together to create a geometric pattern, combined with a pressure sensitive adhesive film and a removable backing sheet to form a self adhesive decorative member which may be used with other decorative members for providing smooth surfaces such as glass, mirror, plastic and ceramic tiled with a textured surface; said decorative member being constructed of elements of flexible material, such as plastic, the members comprising longitudinal base elements with non-planar textured or contoured upper surfaces having areas for attaching small lights and reflectors; the under side of said longitudinal elements being flat and falling on a plane so as to support a backing sheet which is made of a different material to that of the decorative member; the backing sheet being of a shape that totally covers and protects the pressure sensitive adhesive on the flat surfaces of the longitudinal elements when the decorative member is being cut and matched up against another decorative member; the decorative member suitable for affixing to a flat or curved surface to create a geometric pattern or for forming text and simple designs, each decorative member intended to be placed directly against and in contact with another decorative member of the same or another design, for covering an area with a plurality of decorative members with little or no interruption or gaps between said decorative members and the pattern formed by the longitudinal elements, characterised in that- the longitudinal base elements are interconnected by detachable alignment spacers which ensure correct spacing of the longitudinal elements.
- A method of using the decorative member of claim 1; comprising affixing to smooth surfaces such as windows of private and commercial dwellings, on auto windows and rear wind screens, on marine glass and surfaces such as walls and ceilings, wood and metal panels, the tile to provide a textured and raised line effect.
