Abstract

The invention relates to a decorative tiling tile (1) consisting of lines (2) of different shapes, widths and thicknesses, the upper face of the lines having a non-planar shape (3) and the lower face of the lines being planar (4) at the point where the contact with the adhesive material takes place. The protective backsheet (5) has the shape of the reference rectangle which extends to the outer pane boundaries, where the contact junction (6) with an adjacent pane is made. The removable spacing and alignment pieces (7) serve to ensure the required spacing between the lines. The junction (8) is located where a small lighting device or a small reflecting device can be installed. A message (9) intended for a third party can be placed at the required place.

Description

A decorative tile
The invention relates to a decorative tile designed to give yet another alternative to the solid conventional tile.
The design of the tile is based on the idea that within a de- corative tile, the lines that create the geometric pattern or picture design on the whole solid tile are themselves the main and important factor in giving the tile that decorative look- It is these lines that are extracted to become the main body of the tile, where as the non-decorative, plain areas of the tile are removed. For example, in the simple use of a solid rectan¬ gular tile that has a grid pattern design, the main decorative factor of the grid lines will become the body of the tile with the rectangular area between the grid being disregarded to create a grid line tile.
In the design of the tile, one of the aims is to eliminate true straight edges but having a minimum of outer limits for contact with another tile so as to minimize the breaks in the continuity of a geometric pattern, text or simple picture tiling.
The tile is constructed from flexible base materials with the upperside of the lines not being of a flat shape and can be affixed to glass, mirror, plastic; as it is of a see through nature and permit visibility. Where a tile is used external¬ ly on autoglass, such as a window and a windscreen or on a marine vessel, on the upper face of the tile can be a message to a third party , to discourage removal, that is located at a pre¬ determined position that can say "not reusable" or similar. There are areas for attachments of small lights or reflectors that can be used for decorative effects in the dark.
The tile can be affixed to walls, cielings, wooden or metal panels and other surfaces, flat or curved to produce a textur¬ ed or contoured effect for decorative purposes. One way of earring out the invention is described in detail below with reference to the occompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a decorative tile in accordance with the invention showing the lines that constitutes the whole of the tile.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the tile indicating the shape of the lines and thickness and also the backing sheet to the flat side of the tile.
Figure 3 shows the decorative tile connected to other similar tiles by the outerlimits for contact to produce a picture design of a large area, displaying little or no apparent in¬ terruption in its creation.

Claims

Claims :
1. A decorative tile that can be used also for protective purposes on surfaces such as glass, mirror, plastic and similar, not of the conventional solid rectangular shape with true straight defined edges but made up of lines of different shapes, width and thickness which constitutes the geometric pattern or simple picture design of the whole tile, also the detachable alignment spacers that ensure the require line spacing where applicable, with the upperside of each line being of a shape that promotes the easy flowing over of gas and
10 liquid and therefore the upperside of the whole tile, hich can have a message to a third party to discourage removal and areas for attachments of small lights or reflectors for usage in the dark of those tile so designed, is of a texture or con¬ toured nature, whereas the underside of each line is flat and
I5 therefore the underside, but not aligment spacers, of the whole tile at where the adhesive material is to contact, and the back ing sheet of the shape of the reference rectangle, that can protect the self-adhesive material on those tiles so designed when the tile is being cut to shape or matched up against anoth
20 when it is to be affixed to a flat or curve surface, contining geometric, text or simple picture design by placing the outer limits for contact to another having the same or different pattern and providing borders in which the area within can be selectively tinted to enhance the appearance of, covering a lar
25 area with no or little apparent interruption in the continuatio of the tiling as is more apparent in conventional tiling.
