Abstract

A decorative tile that is made up of lines of different shapes, widths and thickness, the upper side of the lines being of a shape that is not flat and the under side of the lines are flat where the adhesive material can be applied.

To protect the adhesive material when applied there is a backing sheet which is the shape of the reference rectangle extending to the outer limits of the lines.

There are detachable alignment spacers that are to ensure the required spacing between lines.

There are areas for the attachment of small lights or reflectors to be located and a message or name to be seen by a third party.

Description

Specification A decorative tile The invention relates to a decorative tile designed to give yet another alternative to the solid conventional tile.

The design of the tile is based on the idea that within a de-corative tile, the lines that create the geometric pattern or picture design on the whole solid tile are themselves the main and important factor in giving the tile that decorative look.
It is these lines that are extracted to become the main body of the tile, where as the non-decorative, plain areas of the tile are removed. For example, in the simple use of a solid rectan-gular tile that has a grid pattern design, the mair decorative factor of the grid lines will become the body of the tile with the rectangular area between the grid being disregarded to create a grid line tile.

In the design of the tile, one of the aims is to eliminate true straight edges but having a minimum of outer limits for contact with another tile so as to minimize the breaks in the continuity of a geometric pattern, text or simple picture tiling.

The tile is constructed from flexible base materials with the upperside of the lines not being of a flat shape and can be affixed to glass, mirror, plastic; as it is of a see through nature and permit visibility. Where a tile is used external-ly on autoglass, such as a window and a windscreen or on a marine vessel, on the upper face of the tile can be a message to a third party , to discourage removal, that is located at a pre-determined position that can say "not reusable~ or similar.
There are areas for attachments of small lights or reflectors that can be used for decorative effects in the dark.

The tile can be affixed to walls, cielings, wooden or metal panels and other surfaces, flat or curved to produce a textur-ed or contoured effect for decorative purposes.

20~3277 Oneway of carrying out the invention is described in detail below with reference to the occompanying drawings which illustrates embodiments of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a decorative tile in accordance with the invention showing the lines that constitutes the whole of the tile.

Figure 2 shows a side view of the tile indicating the shape of the lines and thickness and also the backing sheet to the flat side of the tile.

Figure 3 shows the decorative tile connected to other similar tiles by the outer limits for contact to produce a picture design of a larger area.
~, The decorative tile illustrated 1 is made up of lines 2 of different shapes, widths and thickness, the upper side of the lines being of a shape that is not flat 3 and the under side of the lines are flat 4 where the adhesive material can be applied.

To protect the adhesive material after it has been applied there is a backing sheet 5 which is of the shape of the reference rectangle extending to the outer limits of the lines 6.

There are detachable alignment spacers 7 that are to ensure the -~~
required spacing between lines.

On the lines there are area 8 where small lights or reflectors can be located or where a message or name 9 can be located to be seen by a third party.

Claims (2)

1) A decorative tile (1) made of lines, not like solid conventional ceramic tiles with straight edges, but being made up of different and same shaped lines (2), formed together to create geometry and "see through" design of the tile, combined with a pressure sensitive adhesive film and a backing sheet to form a self adhesive tile that is used with other decorative tiles for transforming smooth surfaces such as glass, mirror, plastic and ceramic tiles to textured surfaces; said tile being constructed from flexible materials, such as plastic, the upper sides consisting of lines not of a flat shape, with line spacing determined by alignment spacers (6), and having areas for small lights and reflectors (7) on lines;
the under side of said lines being of a flat shape to support a backing sheet backing sheet (4), that is made of a different material to that of the tile; the backing sheet is of a shape that totally covers and protects the pressure sensitive adhesive (3) on the flat side of the lines when the tile is being cut and matched up against another tile characterized in that when the tile is affixed to flat and curved surfaces it continues a geometric, text and simple picture design by placing of the outer limits for contact (5) of one tile directly against the outer contact point of other tiles of the same designs and different designs covering an area with a purality of decorative tiles to show little or no apparent interruption and gaps between tiles which is more apparent with conventional solid tiles when using grout.
2) A decorative tile, as claimed in claim 1, that is affixed to smooth surfaces such as windows of private and commercial dwellings, on auto windows and rear wind screens, on marine glass and surfaces such as walls and ceilings, wood and metal panels to provide a textured and contoured effect.
