Abstract

Cash register till in the shape of a tray (1) provided with a lid being pivotably connected near the edge of the tray. In said tray there are compartments (8, 9) for receiving coins and banknotes and said till can be locked in a cash register block (20). In said till a money box (10) can be received adapted to the shape of a compartment (9) of the till. Said box comprises a bottom (22), two longitudinal walls (11, 21), one transverse wall (23) and one upper wall (24) which is provided with a slot (25) running parallel to the longitudinal walls and with at least one aperture (26) at a distance from the slot. A pressure plate (27) is biassed from below against the upper wall (24) and can be pushed downwards by means of a finger put into said aperture (26) for pushing downwards a banknote, which is slid into the money box (10) via the slot. In this way, the note can be brought underneath an edge (29, 30) protruding inwards into the money box (10) and running parallel to the slot (25) and can be removed from the money box (10) only through the open end wall after taking the money box out of the till. Means (12-18) are present for locking the money box in the cash register till so that the money box can only be removed from said till after the latter is removed from the cash register block (20).

Description

  • The invention relates to a cash register till in the shape of a tray provided with a lid which has been pivotably connected thereto at the edge of the tray, in which tray there are compartments for receiving coins and banknotes, which cash register till can be locked upon applying it into a cash register block.
  • Such cash register tills are applied ever more in supermarkets etc. After a caissière has done her job, the locking between cash register till and cash register block can be removed such as by means of a key, and in its closed state the cash register till can be taken along to a central room and for example be placed in a safe.
  • In order to prevent an unauthorized person from taking banknotes from a cash register till when it is open, the notes can be stored in a money box, which is placed in a compartment of the cash register till and is fixed in relation thereto.
  • In NL-A-83 02061 a money box for receiving banknotes is described. However, this money box is intended for mounting into a till of a cash register and is locked in relation thereto. Such a till remains in its place in the cash register and thus the money box must be taken from the cash register on the spot. When this takes place, naturally the possibility of banknotes falling out of the money box must not exist, so that the money box concerned is complicated in construction.
  • The invention intends to produce a money box for the above-mentioned cash register till in a simple way.
  • According to the invention it is provided for, that a money box adapted to the shape of a compartment of the cash register till can be received therein, which money box comprises a bottom, two longitudinal walls, one transverse wall, one upper wall provided with a slot running parallel to the longitudinal walls and with at least one aperture at a distance from the slot, a pressure plate being underneath the upper wall, which is pressed against the upper wall by biassing means and can be pushed downwards against said biassing force by means of a finger of a hand put into said aperture for pushing downwards a banknote or other security slid into the money box via the slot, so that the note can be brought underneath at least one edge protruding inwards into the money box and running parallel to the slot and can be removed from the money box only through the open end wall after taking the money box out of the cash register till, means being present for locking the money box in the cash register till so that the money box can only be removed from the cash register till after the cash register till has been removed from the cash register block.
  • According to a development of the invention, the money box can be provided with at least one lip, which has been applied to a wall of the money box, which wall runs substantially vertical when the money box is inside the cash register till and is directed towards that side of the till where the pivot shaft of the lid is situated, while the wall runs parallel to this pivot shaft and abuts a partition in the tray, through which partition the lip protrudes and at the other side of the partition has been provided with a bore through which a pin can be inserted, which is situated at the bottom side of a small tray for coins, which small tray is placed in the compartment next to the money box between said partition and the wall of the tray near which the pivot shaft of the lid is situated, which small tray in its turn is locked when the tray is locked in the cash register block.
  • In this way it is achieved, that the cash register tills of the above-described type already in use, can remain in use. It is only necessary to make a bore in the partition concerned of the tray of the cash register till, through which the lip connected to the money box can be inserted. Further, the small tray is needed which can be placed in the above-mentioned compartment.
  • According to the invention, for locking the small tray itself, its bottom can be provided with at least one hook-shaped lip protruding downwards, the free end of which will be received underneath a strip connected to the cash register block in locking the tray of the cash register till in the cash register block, so that the small tray can not be lifted up out of the compartment.
  • For a support as stable as possible of the money box in the compartment concerned, two lips can be applied to the money box and the small tray can be provided with two pins, which can be received into the bores of the lips.
  • The small tray itself can in turn be provided with at least one hook-shaped lip.
  • The invention is further explained by means of an embodiment, illustrated in the drawing, in which:
    • fig. 1 diagrammatically shows a plan view of a cash register till according to the invention and in particular of its tray without the lid;
    • fig. 2 diagrammatically shows a section, on an enlarged scale, according to the line II-II of the figs. 1 and 3 and with a part of a cash register block; and
    • fig. 3 diagrammatically shows a plan view and a partial section according to the line III-III in fig. 2.
  • Fig. 1 shows the tray 1 of a cash register till according to the invention comprising the front wall 2, the rear wall 3, the side walls 4 and 5, partitions 6 running in longitudinal direction and partitions 7 being square thereto. The partitions 6 and 7 form the compartments 8 and 9 among other things. A money box 10 for receiving banknotes can be placed in the compartment 8.
  • As appears in particular from the figs. 2 and 3, one longitudinal wall 11 of the money box 10 has been provided with two lips 12, each protruding through an aperture 13 in the partition 6 concerned and which have been provided with a bore 14 at the other side of the partition 6.
  • A small tray 15 of which the bottom part 16 has been provided with pins 17, each of which coming to fall into a bore 14 can be placed in the compartment 9. The bottom 16 of the small tray 15 is further provided with a hook-shaped lip 18, the free end of which can be received underneath a strip 19, which is connected to the cash register block 20, which has only been indicated diagrammatically in the figs. 2 and 3.
  • The tray 1 of the cash register till is locked to the cash register block 20 in a known manner, whereby it is also impossible to lift the small tray 15 from the compartment 9. Only after unlocking the cash register till in relation to the cash register block the small tray 15 can be lifted from the compartment 9 and then the money box 10 can be taken away out of the compartment 8.
  • Besides the longitudinal wall 11, the money box 10 comprises the longitudinal wall 21 opposite to the longitudinal wall 11, a bottom 22, a transverse wall 23 and an upper wall 24. The upper wall 24 is provided with a slot 25 running parallel to the longitudinal walls 11 and 21 en with one or more apertures 26.
  • Beneath the upper wall 24 lies the pressure plate 27, which is biassed against the upper wall 24 by means of one or more wire springs 28. The wire springs 28 can for example run in longitudinal direction of the pressure plate 27 and through the transverse wall 23. Then they can be secured onto the transverse wall 23.
  • The edges of the upper wall 24 are somewhat bent inwards along the slot 25 and underneath the slot 25 is an edge 29 protruding inwards. Further, an edge 30 also protruding inwards can be applied on the wall 11.
  • When a banknote is slid into the money box 10 through the slot 25 by pressing on the pressure plate 27 with the fingers through the openings 26, the banknote can be pressed under the edges 29 and 30, so that it can not be removed from the money box 10, for as long as the money box is in the tray 1. Only after taking the entire cash register till from the cash register block 20 and after opening the lid of the cash register the small tray 15 can be removed and then the money box 10. The banknotes can then be taken away from the money box 10 through its one open transverse wall.
  • Particularly the edge 30 is for retaining banknotes when a pile of notes is inside the money box, whereby a newly inserted note is pushed upwards.
  • It will be obvious, that only one possible embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the drawing and described above and that many modifications can be made without falling beyond the inventive idea.
  • Obviously, another way of locking the money box 10 in the cash register till 1 is also possible, for example by applying a slider which is connected to a part of the tray 1 and for example can be slid into the transverse wall 23 of the money box and which is not easily accessible.
