Abstract

Each of the pockets (3), which are arranged at regular distances apart and are moveable along an endless path, is provided with two vertically adjustable stops (14, 15) for the printed product (12) placed into the pocket (3). The stops (14, 15) are mounted displaceably in a pocket carrier (8). Within the pocket carrier (8) there is horizontally arranged a slide (18) which has two elongated openings (19, 20) of slight inclination to the horizontal. A projection (21, 22) on each stop (14, 15) is guided in the corresponding opening (19, 20) of the slide (18). A displacement of the slide (18) accordingly effects a vertical displacement of the stops (14, 15). A guide member (28) which is displaceable in the direction of the slide (18) on a carrier (29) fixed to the machine has a guide groove (32) for a projection (27) arranged on the protruding end of the slide (18). Upon the moving past of the pockets (3), the projection (27) moves through the guide groove (32) so that the slide (18) is brought into a corresponding horizontal position and the stops (14, 15) are brought into a corresponding vertical position. Upon change of the height of the printed product (12), therefore, only the guide member (28) need be newly set on the carrier (29) in order for the printed products (12) to lie at the correct height in all pockets (3).

Description

The present invention relates to a plug-in machine according to the preamble of claim 1.

In the case of a plug-in machine according to US Pat. No. 3,031,189, the stop of a pocket is achieved by replacing a chuck which can be inserted into the pocket and clamped with the latter. However, such a construction does not allow precise adaptation to the different formats of the printed products, so that the precision and reliability required when inserted are not guaranteed.

It is an object of the invention to provide a plug-in machine of the type known at the outset, in which all pockets are automatically adapted to a changed height of the printed products on the basis of a one-time adjustment manipulation.

The inserting machine according to the invention of the type mentioned at the outset has the features listed in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

The inserting machine according to the invention has the advantage that only one circulation of all pockets on the preset control means is required in order to automatically bring the stops of the pockets for the printed products to the correct height.

A preferred embodiment of the inserting machine according to the invention is defined in claim 2. It has the advantage that the design effort is low and a secure setting of the stops of all pockets is guaranteed.

  • Fig. 1 eine Seitenansicht, teilweise im Schnitt, von zwei Taschen der Einsteckmaschine;
The invention is explained, for example, with the aid of the attached schematic drawings. Show it:
  • Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of two pockets of the insertion machine.
  • FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1 together with an adjustable control device; and
  • 3 is a top view of the control device of FIG. 2.

On two parallel, endless chains 1, 2, a number of pockets 3 corresponding to the chain pitch are inserted, of which two pockets 3 are shown in FIG. 1. The chains 1, 2 guide the pockets along an endless path, on which different treatment stations (not shown here) for printed products accommodated in the pockets 3 can be arranged one after the other, for example a main product insertion station, an insert station and a removal station. In a manner known per se, the chains 1, 2 (FIG. 2) are provided with laterally projecting axes 4. On each of the chain links, a guide roller 5 is mounted so that it can rotate freely. Along the straight chain runs, the rollers 5 are mounted in lateral guides 6, which are arranged on fixed supports 7. A pocket carrier 8 with the pocket 3 attached to it is firmly connected to the axles 4 (FIGS. 1, 2). From Fig. 1 it can also be seen that a pivot shaft 10 is rotatably mounted in a conventional manner in bearing ribs 9 which are attached to the pocket carrier 8. The pivot shaft 10 carries a hold-down device 11 for a printed product 12 inserted into the pocket 3. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the pocket carrier 8 extends over the entire width of the pocket 3.

The pocket 3 has in its lower region two cutouts 13, through which a stop 14, 15, bent similarly to the pocket 3, engages. The stops 14, 15 are mounted in a corresponding slot 16 of the rack 8 in the height direction. Adjacent to the slot 16, the pocket carrier 8 is provided with a groove 17 which extends in the horizontal width direction and in which a slide 18 is arranged. The slider 18 is thus horizontal in the pocket carrier 8 Movable direction.

The slide 18 and the two stops 14, 15 are in mechanical connection with one another. The slide 18 is provided with two elongated openings 19, 20 which are inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the slide 18. Each stop 14, 15 carries a cam 21, 22 which lies in the corresponding elongated opening 19, 20 and is thus guided therein. If the slide 18 is moved in the direction of its longitudinal axis, that is to say in the horizontal direction in FIG. 2, in accordance with the double arrow 24, the two stops 14, 15 accordingly move simultaneously and to the same extent in a substantially vertical direction in accordance with the double arrows 25 the stops 14, 15 form a support for the lower edge (ie the fold) of the printed product 12 placed in the pocket 3 (FIG. 1), a movement of the slide 18 causes an adjustment of the height of the printed product 12 in the pocket 3. The Stops 14, 15 are in this case self-retaining in the pocket 3, since the slight inclination of the guide openings 19, 20 of the slide 18 to the horizontal prevents the stops 14, 15 from automatically moving vertically.

In order to bring about an automatic, desired height adjustment of the stops 14, 15 of all pockets, an adjusting device, generally designated 26 in FIGS. 2 and 3, is provided for the slider 18 of the pockets 3. On the one hand, the slide 18 is provided with a cam 27 at its laterally projecting end (FIG. 2). On the other hand, a guide body 28 is attached to the adjacent fixed support 7 and is mounted on a support 29 connected to the support 7. The carrier 29 is with a provided narrow longitudinal opening 30 through which extends a locking screw 31 screwed into the guide body 28. 3, the guide body 28 has a guide groove 32 for the cam 27 of the slide 18.

The guide groove 32 has a narrowing course in the direction of movement of the pockets 3 indicated by an arrow 33, the narrowest point 34 of the guide groove 32 having a width corresponding to the diameter of the cam 27. Thus, in operation, the slides 18 of all the pockets 3 guided past the adjusting device 26 are brought into the same horizontal position, which is determined by the position of the guide body 28 locked in the opening 30 of the carrier 29. The horizontal position of the slide 28 defines the height of the stops 14, 15 and thus the height of the printed products 12 in the pockets 3.

Accordingly, if the height of the printed products 12 in the pockets 3 is to be adapted to a changed width of the printed products 12, only the guide body 28 on the carrier 29 can be adjusted in the direction of the opening 30, for which purpose the carrier 29 can be provided with a corresponding scale. During a first passage of the pockets 3 on the adjusting device 26, the slides 18 of all pockets 3 are then automatically brought into the corresponding position. This position determined by the locked guide body 28 is also automatically checked with each further passage of the pockets and corrected for small deviations.
